They may have a loved one in the military too, I was a navy brat During Vietnam war and some of my classmates had their father in that war, I was lucky enough to have my dad come home unfortunately I lost some of my dad's friends who were my dads when he was overseas and when my dad came back he would be dad to other kids while their dad was overseas, sad times and good times, very emotional times

I remembered when I was graduating high school in 1991. My father was deployed in Iraq. I knew he wasn't going to be there. When I was walking to get my diploma, My Oldman walked inside to see me. That was the proudest moment of my life. Many years later I did the same to my elders daughter. We sacrifice a lot, but our families sacrifice even more.

I remember my dad doing this, he did it after school though and i think i cried. He came back after serving in niger for a year. He served for almost 21 years and is now retired.

Why do I feel like I am practically required to join the military because my grandpa’s both of them were in the Air Force my great grandpa was in the Air Force. My dad was in the army and one of my grandpa’s also a cop so I feel like I’m supposed to go into a branch of the military.

This hit close to home- I remember when my dad went away for a year to serve for the army and one day my mom told me there was a surprise waiting outside. We went outside and I saw a man holding a sign that said: “I’m home, where I belong.” That man was my dad.
