I used to say that the best thing for a marriage would be a duplex...one side for each partner. I'm thinking that this is an even better idea. Before my hubby passed we had separate bedrooms because he was ill and snored like crazy, and I still had to get up for work and needed to sleep! It worked really great for us, but there was always a "friend" who seemed devastated that we didn't sleep in the same bed every night! Our relationship was so wonderful, and I miss him every day.

I love the idea of this. My hubby, college aged kiddo, and I can have our own spaces. As she mentioned in the video, people have a man cave ( or a she shed), so why not just have separate tiny homes. I'd still want to sleep with my hubby every night and he agrees, but a separate space for guests would be nice. My parents are getting older so having another tiny house for them would give them independence while still being able to care for them. Until they'd move in it would make an awesome guest house.

For an older couple coming together I think this is the ideal situation to maintain a happy relationship. My girlfriend had gotten sick for sometime and her husband was not able to get enough sleep for work so he ended up taking the guest room. My husband and I have been married for 50 years, I can see where this would be beneficial. I have my hobbies and interests and my husband has his, but I'm organized and he IS NOT, so this makes it VERY difficult for me. I constantly feel pressured to try to keep him organized because he's constantly looking for things and accusing me of hiding it. I can't stand the mess. Separate BUT together would be perfect. Great idea.

I've seen the use of cubbies as the bed foundation, stacked side by side for long cubes, her mattress fit on top perfectly. Store bought, the put together furniture place we all know. I would have never checked Etsy, but I need under bed storage (doing an RV Reno, permanently installed plumbing. Found myself solo at 63, I never got to sing, "when I'm 64"!!! Buy this 10 x 35 ft 1 bed with (tip outs, now called slides) There is no head room for much raising of anything. I bought non woven type fabric drawers, as I didn't need to support anything, just to find what would fit. I came home in a mini monsoon last night, still in the car! Headed out before it starts again today..... hoping they fit.

After living in 350 sq ft, I had a glass room aka the sauna. It serves more as storage during construction on the main home, I insulated and darkened from the sun, then installed my A/C, my living space, when complete will be 630 sq ft. Buying this project was a necessity for a roof over my head. I also learned, by the tiny house rule of thumb, under 399 sq ft was NOT going to work for me and my STUFF! Furniture passed on from relatives, especially. I have my parents bedroom suite, big clunky traditional 70's stuff. I'm repurposing the armoire into a TV stand. Then nightstand, never fitting next to the bed will become an end table in the living space. Having fun making what I have useful, or making it so!!! (The water in the sunroom last night is not to be talked about here..... Another post!

You spend most of your life accumulating the stuff, and then it takes years to get rid of all of it, especially when you end up with belongings from other relatives who passed away. I could easily have 2 to 3 homes I have so much "treasure". I don't want to just chuck a lot of my stuff as a lot of it is pretty nice, so trying to sell or give away the best of it and it is taking much longer than I thought. My house looks like the back room at the Salvation Army.

My male best friend and I wanted to do this, we ranked about it for years but he had to take care of his mom. Unfortunately shortly after his mom died and before he could retire a severe medical issue resulted in his having to live in a long term medical care facility. We used to dream of having 2 tiny homes connected by breezeways to a building in between them to serve as a kitchen, family room, a guest bedroom area and a bathroom. If we both sold our properties we could've done it. The mid section was for when family visited or could've served as an airbnb when not in use by visitors. I still think it was a good idea. I have to help my 89 year old mom now, don't know what's going to happen. I'm not free to move. I still dream of tiny house living in the country but close to a town. I want chickens and a garden. I'm happy for this couple and I think separate homes with shared spaces is a great idea!

This couple is quite happy, I love their attitude. Their homes are very nice, the man cave house has a sophisticated decor, the wall of artwork that separates the kitchen from the office is superb, love love love. I like their approach to make their homes practical, having a place to land when coming in and to store the clothes seems to lack in several tiny homes.

Apart from having a bit more expenses, this double tiny for a couple looks close to perfect. Nobody has to sacrifice anything in terms of space, independence, design, hobbies and quirks. I suspect a much better set up for, like they say, mature couples, who have passed the lovey dovey stage in their relationships. Yet it allows them companionship and the closeness of someone they trust, and enjoy spending a lot of peaceful and quality time with. Another plus point is if one is a snorer, you can even sleep separately! Love both the tinys but am slightly more biased to the husband's space. Industrial and sleek yet feels mystical with his quirky collections, love it!

My husband and I are approaching our retirement years. So we're preparing ahead of time. We sold our home which we were still under water in, and bought a mobile home free and clear. He then stripped the interior and we , well, he rebuilt it the way we wanted our retirement home to be. It turned out gorgeous! Never seen one like it before. Now we're free and clear of a mortgage in our retirement home, paying under $750 a month for lot rental, gas, light, water, cable, insurance, etc... Cars are all paid off too!

I love his tiny house ! I cried it’s so beautiful. I fell in love with tiny houses in 2010. I had become disabled and I had to give up my career. I was very depressed so my husband brought an iPad home to me one day. I found youtube and tiny homes. It’s changed my life. It gave me hope. We did purchase a property 12 acres and converted a shed cabin. But we don’t live in it. We settled in a very small country town in a typical 3 bed 2 baths after selling our big suburban home. Currently we are transforming our back yard. It’s completely tropical. Big pool with a deck. A hot tub deck. Soon the back porch will be a sunroom. And the carport will be enclosed it will be huge office for my husband. I’m not sure if we will stay here. Although I love the things my husband has built. We might move to Florida where our youngest lives. If we do that we will sale both properties and give that a try. But honestly I’m comfortable. And if we lived in the shed cabin I would be happy there too. Life is a journey. Enjoy where you are on that journey. Thank you so much for sharing! Leslye

The ideal living setup is for each person to have their own self-contained space. Regardless of the situation.. conventional family, a couple...platonic or intimate relationship..we all , at some time need time to ourselves .... be it for a few hours or a few days. All relationships will benefit when that privacy is respected.

I could have never imagined how the husband's tiny home would be on the inside but it was beautifully appointed with his works of art and collectibles that he valued. I loved his choice of design of the space and also how he organized the kitchen and bathroom. The office table was so unique and he thought of everything he wanted to feel he had enough space to live in and still connect with his wife/partner. As a woman myself, I assumed I would have been more attracted to the way a women's decor, design, colors and functionality would be but I found her space too cluttered and I didn't like the open stairs to the loft. The husband's house was way more attractive, functional and style of what I would love for myself. They both had their own styles and instead of compromising and giving up what they love, I see their situation a perfect solution. They are connected, have what they each love and the style they want. Also to my big surprise, the husband's Tony house was way more organized and really neat and tidy, especially the kitchens. This is the perfect couple enjoying their lives together separately with room to breathe and keep their individual styles. I would definitely do this and have a separate tiny house next to one another with my husband if we ever considered tiny house living. I also think married couples who are retired need their own space to do their hobbies and have a place to call their own. They can spend as much or as little time as they want.
