Tip: Disconnected the fan connector while cleaning with a air blower.The spinning blades produces current which can short the capacitors

@@FrontWaffle "you'll be fine if you don't do [thing]" is such a weird reaction from people that think it's best to guess at something instead of simply performing GUARANTEED preventative steps, I don't get it. Don't presume excuses to avoid simply unplugging the fan. Just unplug it, for crying out loud.

My dad has a mac book pro 2010, so basically he didn’t want to switch it out because some of the newer ones didn’t have as many ports. So he invested in keeping up to date. He bought a bunch of new stuff and kept his computer working as fast as a lot of newer ones.

A thermal reapplication was a must and I am not sure why you failed to change such a critical component especially that you were already inside the device and needed to take 5 more minutes to do it. Poor customer.

Unfortunately that isn’t the root cause and does nothing to solve the issue. I had the same problem, my MacBook Pro 15 late 2013 randomly shuts off, the majority of time during light workload and also when the device was in sleep mode. A battery replacement does nothing. I managed to solve the problem after a motherboard replacement. The problem was a tiny electronic component that causes problems when the cpu enters power saving states. The tiny component can be replaced but it’s not for everyone.

The more that I watch these videos, the more I start to know how to repair things. Gonna be repairing my MacBook Air that was left abandoned. I ordered myself a flex cable for the power audio unit because, it wasn’t there and hoping that the charging actually works. If that’s repaired, I just have to replace the screen and it’ll be good as new

This series of A1398 Macbooks have a known issue with the main CPU VRMs needing replacement due to electromigration damage over the years ( 820-3332 series not applicable but 820-00138 / 426 / 163 do ) which causes this type of behaviour. Swap them out with new FDM VRMs (there's a few possible options) and they go great for many more years now.

I had the same random shutdown issue. Turned out to be some power IC chip, this caused a kernel error. Apple being apple recommended to buy a new MacBook, did not do that. I took it to a friend charged me $10 bucks for piece and $25 bucks labor no more issues since then

Honestly I never really pay attention to the temp, I just keep it on the mat for 2-5 minutes then start the repair.

"Because the battery was over 6 years old is probably the reasaon it was randomly rebooting" My 10 years old samsung battery keeping my phone alive for the entire day, it doesn't fit inside the phone because from another phone and it's bigger than the original battery so I put a lot of tape to keep it in place, cleaned the oxidation on the terminals and it's good as new, the famous "Gambiarra" from Brazil
