I am not protecting Putin, he is 100% a killer, but the lady made a number of serous biases contradicting objective facts: 1) "European borders are unchangeable" - Kosovo strongly disagrees with her. As well as Northern Cyprus and the fact Turkey is still a NATO member 2) "Putin started war in Georgia" - wft? Official United Nations position clearly stated that Georgia was the side which started the warfare in 2008. 3) She accused Russia with interference into Syria, but strangely forgot about about USA or UK made the same. Sounds like a hypocrisy to be honest.

In the 20th century, Ukrainians striving for their own identity and independent state were executed, deported to Siberia, tortured and jailed. The most massive murder of Ukrainians took place during the 1932-33 Great Famine genocide (known as the Holodomor in Ukrainian), during which millions of deaths were recorded. During the 400 years of occupation of Ukrainian lands by the Russian Empire, and then the Soviet Union, the use of the Ukrainian language was banned 134 times by the Russian government. It also banned the Ukrainian church, printing of Ukrainian books, traditional songs, Ukrainian-language schools, theaters and libraries. It confiscated religious books and declared Ukrainian cultural activities to be harmful.

@macswad
@macswad Жыл бұрын
@@pwaegemans I don't think it does because of the timeline. English people had settled in Ireland (& vice versa) long before the definition of sovereignty, or ideas of Empire & even during the Empire people from Ireland served in the British Army. The Irish fought & won their Independence over 100 years ago. UK also supports the principle of the right to self determination & has done so since the 1940's which is why it gave away the world's largest empire without a shot being fired (in most cases!) . During this interview Anne has mis-stated Putin's War Aims. Putin does not want to invade & occupy Ukraine. He merely wants to stop it joining both NATO & the Empire of the EU. Failing to understand Putin is a serious mis-calculation. But at least Anne admits in the interview she failed to see War coming even though almost anyone could have predicted it. Long before Putin came to Power. I'm not quite sure how Anne managed to win the Pulitzer Prize. I'll guess I will have to read her books.

It's a shame the opportunity was missed to convert the former Warsaw Pact countries that entered the EU into a neutral central european "Treaty Organisation" - which could easliy have added Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states, maybe later the former Yugoslavian states, to create a buffer between Russia and NATO. Russia could not have objected to that in the same way as the expansion of NATO, so that would have thwarted Putins expansion plans much more effectively than the eastern expansion of NATO that actually happened.
