TV historian Prof David Starkey analyses the 2019 general election result. Is this the new British revolution? How will history remember the last Parliament of 2017-19? Why did Labour lose? Should Boris take his chance to scrap the licence fee? Should we reform the civil service?

This former lifelong Voter for the team in the red corner did the unthinkable. Voted Tory. I was not alone. One of the "Many" who voted in their millions and was pleased to do so unlike the "few". Corbyn and those of his mindset and unrealistic bovine excrement values still appear determined not to get the message of June 2016 and December 2019. Boris did but, even he took his time..

Thanks for the support, but we the British working tax payers detest being called "Subjects"......it was only recently that our masters had to start calling us "Citizens". It is one of the very few things that the EU ever did for us. We still have to put up with unelected Parasites who ride around in carriages and Limos laughing at us while they "rifle through our pockets" even the state run TV takes a huge wedge.

What were the British Interests at stake in each case? Sorry, to push for actual examples, but without them,m it just sounds like a mixture of wishful thinking on one hand, and 'paying to not feel bad' due to the usual christian altruism problem we are burdened with, on the other.

@@salty1ify its used to pay off governments so the military bases we control in the area are "protected". It stops warlords getting a foot hold which would cause more issues than its worth. By paying them aid, it stops the uk getting there hands dirty as such as the governments thats getting the aid look out for there best interest (our money). The last thing you want is a bunch of militants storming a base. The aid we give isnt really aid at all in the sense it isnt helping the poor, rather the opposite it makes the poor worse off as the governments take the aid for granted so dont improve job opportunities ect. Whats kinda what we want.. The guy above wants examples clearly the governments never going to say hey we give iran £xxxx so it can buy weapons but it will say it give aid. If you look at what countries aids giving too you will see we increase aid in areas we have interests in for example israel, aid is used so we dont upset Palestine.

Besides, is he only an intellectual giant because you know he favours the tories? What you are doing, is not appreciating intelligence in all its forms, but appreciating people who simply support what you personally think. There are many historians at Oxford and Cambridge who would strongly reprimand Starkey for this unhistorical and unprofessional attempt to historicise the election, but would you call them intelligent for providing an alternative and equally valid view of the past? I would put a bet on it that you would not -people only seem to like sycophants and arse lickers these days, anyone who attempts to give you an alternative no doubt is cast aside in your mind as thick and naive.

As a historian from Oxford, I feel I should also point out to you that no one today reads anything Starkey says about the Tudor dynasty, his work is extremely outdated and no longer has anything useful or original to say about the period; he is well known by the public, but that doesn't mean he is particularly respected at Oxford or Cambridge anymore. Be careful you arent just praising people simply because they are saying stuff you want them to say, sometimes you are wrong, everyone has moments they are wrong, and it is important that you pay attention when someone tells you that.

@historypoliticsbb Laser sharp accuracy of the kind clueless lefty and their small army of UK media luvvies do not want to hear. There's good reasons why the Party I once held in high esteem were wiped out comprehensively and deservedly so on December 12th. Many reasons in fact millions of them. If the team in Red do not effectively "reflect" ( that word alone is more denial evidence ) sanitise and purge their ranks of the wrong thinkers, the people will again vote to show their widespread disapproval. Blame whatever you like for their well earned dismal results. The blame lies clearly with the likes of Thornberry, McDonnell and yes, Corbyn and all those of that same clueless mindset with harmful and unrealistic manifesto promises. A deep and widespread purge is the only answer. I usually find Starkey's manner something not to be admired. Have done so since the first time I saw him on TV. Wrongly as I based those first impressions on someone unlike myself, who is from a privileged background which is clearly not the case. First impressions can be very misleading. However, the content of what he says is admirably accurate. If the team in the Red Corner chose to ignore Starkey and those who think like he does, then they will go away and prepare for perma-opposition status. My vote is not as some would misleading have you believe, loaned to the Tory party. That thought is typical of those still in denial mode. That is clearly the case unless the team in Red effectively purge their ranks then my vote for the media coined "Nasty" Party will most certainly be permanent. In a nutshell, Boris "Gets it". Corbyn, Thornberry, McDonnell et al clearly are determined to refuse to do so. Thus their self-inflicted fate is both assured and deserved. Good point. East Anglia too. In both cases however, the North, having previously been an agrarian economy and society was swiftly transformed by the Industrial Revolution. Their much larger populations were massively changed, gradually became embittered, cynical, coarsened by terrible working conditions on a huge scale prior to employment reforms. Both Tolkien and H.G. Wells observed this kind of dehumanisation in allegory. Northerners' "funny accent" has always been mocked and sneered at by "the South" too. It figures.

History has a habit of repeating itself and this historian has the knowledge to see it coming and calls it every time. Politicians need to learn a lesson as to what democracy means and who has the power to wield it. They also need to remember that those of us with a history in this country will have forebears that fought for, and in many cases gave their lives, to defend and preserve our democracy. This is why so many of us don't take kindly to our "elites" giving that away or to be being dictated to by unelected foreign bureaucrats. Finally, our politicians also need to realise that the vast majority of us are not stupid, we may have different views and values but we know when we're being taken for fools or taken for granted.

Interesting that the 'new' intelligencia, who would seek to shape our culture have such great breadth of vision, with less than one inch of depth. Our profound history as a nation, that has literally shaped the modern world gives us the perspective to understand that these self interested charlatans will ultimately fail in impmementing their agenda. Cultural Marxism, like its revolutionary name sake is already faltering. The red wall, like the Berlin wall has fallen. The unified country that emerges will be the next European power house.
