I lived in Beatty with my family on 2nd street 64 years ago. My late brother, sister and myself went back in 2006 and the house was still there. We stayed at Armagosa Toad RV park on that trip through Nevada, Arizona, Utah and parts of California. A 3 week tour.

Did you ever see the phantom donkeys cross the highway in a line? My husband was a truck driver and saw them on Hwy 95, and so did other drivers in a convoy he was in that day. He couldn't stop in time as they appeared when he was right almost on them, so he drove through them and looked in his rearview and they were still there crossing, and when he asked the drivers behind him if they saw them, one said he did, and had seen them more than once before as well. Then when they got to a cafe to stop and eat the worker said "Did you see them? I could tell by the look on your face." So what do you know about this sort of thing? I can't find any information online about this. I would think people would be talking about it online.

Cool video Russ, that plane you found is a Beechcraft C-45, that particular plane operated out of North Las Vegas Airport and was used for sightseeing trips to the Grand Canyon from 1965 to 1973 and then was sold to Skydive Las Vegas and used for a jump plane. In 1978 Angel's Ladies hired the plane and pilots for a promotional stunt on the property, something went wrong and the pilots had to make an emergency landing, the plane was totaled, but all six people onboard escaped with no injury.

Wow I was just surfing KZfaq and came across this video on Beatty, NV. Back in 2007 I was a medical student in Las Vegas doing my rotations that involved two rural clinics, one in Beatty and one in Amargosa. Can't say too much about the rotations but it was an interesting desert like location. Was only there for a month but got to see the wild flowers in death valley before the oven turned on.

Thanks for showing love to Hawthorne. We lived in the Owen's Valley (Bishop mostly) nearly all of our lives and visited Hawthorne frequently as my wife had relatives who lived on the Walker River Indian Reservation. In fact one of her relatives worked at the Depot back in the 70's when it was operated by the Navy. El Cap was the hot spot in town back then. Loved the Friday night buffet. Wonder if the El Cap is still in business.

@@stevemcbride2685 That's great news. Lots of people from the California side, especially Inyo and Mono counties, would drive to Hawthorne and Montgomery Pass, before it closed, for weekend gambling trips. It's only about a 3 hour drive from Bishop to Hawthorne so if you were in El Cap on a Friday or Saturday night back in the 70's or even the 80's there was a very good chance you'd meet someone you knew from Bishop or one of the other towns in the Owens Valley if that's where you lived. She may not be much to look at but we have very warm memories of the dusty old town.

The aircraft there is an old Navy Beechcraft, twin engine, 12 passenger bird. If you do a drone fly over the next time you go there, you will see the dirt airstrip they used. I am willing to bet this plane was used to ferry in client's for the old Bordello. The buildings can be seen that was no doubt used for "fun and frolic". Your videos are amazing. When I start my Boondocking adventure, your going to all these places is like having files we can tap into and see what's out there and can plan instead of blindly going out and see what happens. It prepares you and would make things less stressful so one can enjoy everything better. Keep doing what you're doing. I hope to meet you in Quartzsite next year. Be safe everybody.

The guy who owns the Stagecoach and Eddies Gas (picture of his cute little boy...he's probably 38 now) and Death Valley Candy Factory, his name is Ed Ringle. What a cranky character he is! From L.A. and thought he would rule the town, built the El Sueno sign and intended to build another casino....thought he would bend the codes of the city and do his pleasure. Beatty Council fixed his wagon!.....its been a parking lot for 20 years.

I can't tell from current Maps if it's still extant but if it is I will wholeheartedly recommend that you visit and imbibe and be absolutely open to everything that happens next. I was there August 1969 for the Championship Burro Race, sort of an Iron Man endurance of it’s time, had two friends entered, one won it. I handed out water during the event which was in temperature of 120 degrees.

8:45 the elevation of Beatty, NV is 3,307' 8:18 the plane was crashed there. The owners of the brothel used it in 1978 as a publicity stunt gone bad. But, no one was hurt. They pulled the wreckage to the front gate to attack customers.
