We are heading to one of the greatest historic hotels of Americias at one of the state of Georgia's Must See resorts, the Jekyll Island Club Resort on Jekyll Island, one of the Golden Isles of Georgia. There is so much to see and do here. There are bike rentals, dolphin tours, a luxury spa, shopping, several restaruants, croquet on the fron lawn and so much more. The Gorgia Turtle Center is located on property. This is where guests and the public can come to learn about sea turtles and visit with some of their cute patience that they are actively reabilitating to return to the ocean. Jekyll Island Club Resot is also minutes from one of the most unique beaches in America, Driftwood Beach. Driftwood Beach is a long stretch of beach with gnarled driftwood. It looks like a scene out of a sci fi movie.
Back at the hotel we get a drink at the Jekyll Island Club Bar The Alexander Bar and Boar's Head Lounge. This bar was actually a set for Robert Redfords film, The Legend of Bagger Vance. Guests at the resort liked the bar so much that the Jekyll Island Club made the bar more permanent.
My husband takes us through the Federal Reserve room. He cant't get over the history of the hotel. In 1910 Under the cover of night, and using only first names to keep their identities secret, Senator Nelson Aldrich led a party of financial leaders to Jekyll Island to conceptualize a federal banking system. Coined the First-Name Club, together the group drafted the modern day Federal Reserve.
In 1915 The nation’s first transcontinental phone call took place between President Woodrow Wilson in Washington, DC, Alexander Graham Bell in New York, Thomas Watson in San Francisco, Henry Higginson in Boston, and AT&T President Theodore Newton Vail at Jekyll Island Club.

The morings at the Jekyll Island Club Resort usually starts with a full southern breakfast with a side a grits and served in the Grand Dining Room.
It's sad to say goodbye to this grand resort, but when we feel like we need a vacation our a trip back through time....we'll be back.
