@@RustyPeng Yes, because usually scoring 400 takes a lot of time and county cricket only lasts for 4 days. If not for the incredible bowling in the last innings, this match could’ve ended in a draw.

Engand should pick him right away in the Test team and let Pope develop on his own in county cricket for a few years. Northeast is scoring a lot of runs for a lot of years now.

With his ex-skipper Rob Key in charge of English cricket, he's got a better chance of selection than ever before. I agree - you've got to pick players when they're in top form. Crawley and Pope have been given way too many chances to find form.

No Pope is just starting to come good, however Key's mate Crawley is woeful. Take away that one knock of 250 and his average is less than 20, although it ain't that much better as it is with a 26 average or so. He's had 25 tests too.

When will this incredibly talented batsmen Sam Northeast get into this English Test side as he is much better technically and in form compared to Zak Crawley,Alex Lees and Ollie Pope.Good against both seam and swing and effective against spin.What more you want from a batsmen.Hope he is given opportunity soon before he calls it a day.Sad he couldn’t make it so far.Easily the most talented batsmen on county circuit not to have played ever for England.

@@fheoniksincessant7256 Yeah but there was that Australian, Adam Voges that they picked at 35 and he averaged 61.8 for the next 18 months. He could've gone on but Australia dropped him despite snashing season records and huge scores(double hundreds etc) after he failed in a match against South Africa. End of the day, pick people on their talent, forget what the numbers are next to 'D.O.B' .

Crawley fine, he's really inconsistent, but Pope's technique is soo similar to Ian Bell's, stokes wanted him in his team despite such a horrendous ashes, and look how he delivered at no.3, got a 100 and a 80 vs NZ, and Lees? he looked decent vs wi, and was slow like Sibley but under baz his mindset changed completely, he was brilliant vs nz especially in 2nd test, and that 50 vs india 🔥🔥

How comes Sam northeast never play a match for England and he have such a good stats in frist class cricket and he play both under 15 and 19 he deserves more

You need to be from the right family, have some connections with the ECB, players from counties like Yorkshire, Lancashire, Surrey, Middlesex have a lot more easier than the others, Curran brothers, Crawley, Jennings, Willey, topley all come from families that have good ties with the ECB elite.

@@mesky1193 Yup, they may say there's not, but the "Old Boy" network still exists in Cricket big time....... if you aint from the right family, went to the right school etc, and know the right people, then you will never get in.

@@nickmaclachlan5178 It definitely exists in England mate, it's sad the game has huge potential, so many great players in the past have struggled to break in the national team due to these factors, the only reason why Crawley got picked for England with a first class average of 30 was due to his father's connections with the ECB, Sam Hain another one who has not yet got a opportunity even after scoring truckload of runs, the game still only attracts the middle class and if you look deeper a few counties have complete hold of how ECB functions.

@@nickmaclachlan5178 to be clear Sam Northeast went to Harrow so not sure it's a school / access thing. He only averages about 35 in county cricket and specialised in short formats early in his career

@@leweesj his consistency as been terrific over the years, easily the most standout domestic batter, England don't produce batters in the calibre of bell, pieterson, trott, cook anymore, far lesser players than northeast have gone on to play test cricket, dan Lawrence is not even close to northeast in terms of class or ability, tom Westley another one who never really did much in domestic but got picked in the test squadm

Agreed. The chance to beat that batting record is more important than the game. They can win other games on other days but the opportunity to beat that batting record does not come around very often. Bad decision.

I am interested to know if anyone out there knows of a team, scoring 580+ in their first innings, but still losing the match by more than an entire innings plus some more runs when it was all done and dusted?

If I`d been the Glamorgan captain I would not have declared and let Sam Northeast attempt to break the 501 batting record. The opportunity he had does not come around very often.

ECB selectors should ponder why him, Sam Hain have not yet played for England, s northeast has not even be considered for lions selection, insane how so many mediocre players have been over the last 8 years or so, Jennings, Crawley have been given over 20 test matches poor northeast will probably never play for england, nothing against crawly but his dad is a business tycoon and has connections with ECB, Jennings to from the right family as some would say, James hildreth never got a test cap but you could understand why with kp, bell, Collingwood, trott, bopara all in the middle order.

Amazing knock by Sam Northeast! He was a be pissed off though, so I feel for him a bit, cos Glamorgan declared on 795, but he wanted to stay out there to try and beat Brian Lara’s world record of 501* not out.
