With evocative Celtic forts, ruined monasteries, and other remnants of its rich ancient and early-Christian past, Ireland is like an open-air museum. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #ireland

My favorite show since I was young and now I'm a Dad and I recommend my son to watch this as entertainment and education. Great show ever.

I love it aswell. Although I'm not a parent, I plan to taking ny nephews on lots of little European jaunts when they're a little bit older. It wasn't an opportunity I had when I was a child but I sure will make sure they get the opportunity. Travel broadens the mind so much.

That first segment always fondly reminds me of the trip we took to Ireland in 2005 - we watched that video before going. We went to Inishmore and started riding bikes toward the end of the island but it started pouring rain and had to turn around or we would have been late to get back to the Ferry. Never did make it out to Dun Aengus.

Ireland's symbol is the Harp, not the shamrock. The shamrock was sacred to the Celts long before St. Patrick came to Ireland. The number 3 was sacred to the Celts. St. Patrick used the shamrock because he knew that the Irish already loved it, just like he did with pagan festivals, first names and mythology.

I recognised the song Westering Home sung in Gaelic. Why they bother with this outdated language is an anathema.

Its part of the raison detre of independence not only one but a big part of it.Its politically impossible to ditch it entirely or english either for economic reasons which is why it remains in limbo.

Some languages are only ever spoken in one country, one region, or one tribe. Would you have us all ditch our languages just to fit in with the Anglosphere & mainstream? Its not like they can't be good at English if they learn Gaelic as well. Gaelic may be "anathema" and "outdated" to you, but without it, the Irish & other Gaelic nations will just be bland, empty, & devoid of connection to their culture, history & heritage. Believe it or not, those things matter to many people. Bilingualism & Multilingualism is quite common amongst populations in Europe, Asia & Africa. Multilingualism is the Norm in Most parts of the world.
