Thanks! This is one of my favorite genres…especially if it’s about the history of something less common! I’ve gotten lots of recommendations from you…some I’ve enjoyed, some not as much. I love how everyone has their own reading style. I’ve read several on this list, and added more to my own now!

"Vienna Prelude" takes me back. It was the first book that opened my eyes to that genre as well and took me down the path of historical WWII fiction being my favorite. I recently found your videos and I've been enjoying all of them. I enjoy being able to watch someone who gives recommendations that I can trust. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Chantel I have listen to The Book Thief as a Audio Book and I love listening to this one as well. I have not read the Physical Edition of this Book yet but I want to someday. I have also listen to The Last Bookshop in London. I love this Book. It is so good. I do want to read the Physical Edition of this. You have a lot of good Historical Fiction Books that you talk about in the Video. I am going have to write the other ones down so I can read them in the New Year. Merry Christmas Happy Reading Enjoy your Hot Cocoa - I will have a cup of Hot Cocoa later this afternoon. Happy Reading ❤️🤗🙏🎄🎅🏻☕️🔰❤️

Thank you for the recommendations! I would say Historical Fiction is my favorite genre. Many of these I have on my TBR, but the rest were quickly added to it. I agree that there is a lot of WWII Historical Fiction out there. I am trying to branch off into reading other time periods. When I went to Goodreads to add Vienna Prelude to my Want To Read list, I noticed the cover was different from yours and recognized right away. Our library had a book sale in October and I picked that book up while there. (among 3 other bags full of books for only $3 a bag. I love library book sales!)

I've been reading Christian Fiction for over 12 years, and Christian Hist Fic has been a source of frustration for me. A decade ago it was almost impossible to find anything which wasn't set in 19th century or 20th century America, or Biblical Fiction. Except Regencies there was almost nothing. Thankfully, things have been starting to change in the last few years, and its has (mostly) been a change for the better. I want to see more books set in different places and time periods, and we're gettimg more of that in the Christian market. Not enough, IMHO but more. I do read General Market historical fiction as well, because there's a lot of good stuff out there, and just not enough in the Christian genre.
@ChantelReadsAllDay

I think there is still a lot of the traditional Christian historical fiction being published but there is also a rise of really good Christian historical fiction slowly coming up which makes me very excited!

@@ChantelReadsAllDay A lot of Christian Historical Fiction tended to be romances as well, at least that's what I always found. I'm losing patience with romances. I love Joanna Davidson Politano though, because there is little romance or it tends to take the back seat to leave more more room for the actual story. Have you tried anything by Julie Klassen? She writes Regencies, but some of them are a lot like Middlemarch or Cranford. Regencies without too much romance.

I tried to read The Book Thief but gave up on it prematurely. Also, I didn't know that the narrator was death. Now I want to give it another try. I really enjoyed The Last Bookshop in London, but I felt like the character development was a little lacking - the jumps in time throughout the book left too much to the reader's imagination.

I know that this video came out a year ago. However, I have been looking for historical fiction videos and I've noticed something. Men who review historical fiction tend to read nonfiction history. They care whether the book is well researched. Women don't tend to read history so they don't care about that. I think we can step it up ladies. Please read history along with historical fiction at least some of the time.

I read The Boy in Striped PJ’s earlier this year and unhauled it as quickly as possible. The ending made me angry, far more than it pained me. As a big fan of Historical fiction genre, having read many books set in WWII, this book made me want to tear the pages out. It is definitely not YA as there are many things which a person ought to know about the time to understand the book. The protagonist does not pronounce any names correctly, and any reader without the sufficient background knowledge will not really appreciate it. MAJOR SPOILER: . . . . . . . . A naive 9-yo boy who lives a very comfortable life dies accidentally at the end. He doesn’t even know what he’s getting himself into. The historical accuracy of whether this would’ve even happened in real life is questionable. The last chapter really made me angry. His father had no problem killing other young children and his mother so oblivious to the world around her, yet somehow I’m supposed to pity them for their ‘suffering after the child died?’ How? When millions of innocent people were killed right next door?! Am I truly expected to feel sorry for them or emphasise with their pain? What pain? What about the pain of Bruno who’s father is missing? We don’t see his pain? Him and people like him are going through the worst imaginable and yet we don’t get anything that would make us really empathise with those characters. I was just so mad that I was expected to feel anything remotely close to pain for characters who literally have no empathy for so many side characters throughout the book
