The values in the American system and in the metric system don’t match. 6 ft are 183 cm, 5’11”=180, 6’4”=193. De Gaulle is shown right in the metric system, 196 cm, but it’s 6’5” or even plus a quarter of an inch.

The mummy of Ramses II, which is in measures 170cm or 5’ 69.3”. It can be seen in the National Museum in Cairo. So he was above average height for the time but in a context of tall people, he was not. History always exaggerate peoples height one way or the other for propaganda purposes. Great leaders are portrayed as taller than they actually are by their own and as shorter by their enemies. Napoleon for example was about average height for his time but is always portrayed as very short. This was the image Britain and other enemies of France tried to give the emperor to diminish him. At the same time Lord Nelson was only 5’ 4” or 162cm. So actually shorter than Napoleon who at the autopsy at his death measured 5’ 7” or 170cm using English units. Different units in different countries also cause some confusion. A foot in Britain was not the same as a foot in other countries, they were all different. It’s not long ago that we abandoned the thousands of different measures around the world and agreed on the metric system. Well, the smarter countries did anyway. 😉

Placing Ramses II at 6'8 (which is 2.03m btw, not 2.10m) is ridiculous. Going by his mummy he was 5'8 at the end of his life. However, he died at the age of 90 and also had severe spinal problems when he was old. Estimatedly he was 5'11-6'0 as a young man, which was very tall for the time. But he wasn't modern day basketball player tall.

these figures are off the mark. If Hitler was 175cm, that would make him 5'10". But in reality, he was only 5'9", or 5'8 1/2". If Hitler was truly 5'7", he would be 167cm. Judging by all the other folks, their measurements are off as well. Prince William is 6'3", not 6'2"..........

Based on most records, many of these are wrong in feet/inches (Putin, Churchill, Queen Victoria,....) or can only be estimated (e.g. Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, etc.). For instance, 3 of Churchill's main biographers list him as between 5'6" to 5'8". Putin is also believes to be over 5'6" using video analyses, though some notice that occasionally he appears taller (like when meeting dignitaries) leading to the belief he uses shoe lifts.

And even then when people say “for the time” its not like people were shorter, they just mixed less. Tall people were in Scandinavia and denmark. Caesar in his region people were shorter but “stockier” and were this way all the way up until the 60s. Stockier being thicker and heavier framed but short. If you look at Italian boxers in the 40s and 50s they ranged from 5’5 - 5’11 on the taller side, but usually all thick (if they werent training they would have been very heavy). The roman style of fighting suits this as well (the gladius was a gut stabbing instrument and the large shield was used to parry). People are products of their environments as well. We may eat more now and weigh more, but we aren't stronger by any stretch on average thats for sure. All you have to do is pick up an iron from 1800 and realize your grandma woulda been whipping that thing around all day.

175 cm is 5'9". You can test that with Google. This video has a horribly wrong conversion between the metric and the imperial system! 1 inch is about 2.54 cm and one foot is basically 30.48 cm. I am 178 cm so I am 5'10", for instance.
@Mr.Shows972 жыл бұрын
@@belandino Thanks for the info. But when you actually do the maths: 175÷2.54÷12=5.74... ft OR 175÷30.48=5.74...ft. It actually comes up as 5'7" This has actually made me feel worse lol
@belandino2 жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Shows97 That math is wrong, because 1 foot is 12 inches, not 10. 5.74 feet is 5 feet and 9 inches.

As many complaints as I see about the heights being completely off, the video still has an impressive like to dislike ratio. I guess people don't actually give a shit.

The conversion between meters and feet is not accurate (e.g. 6'3" should be 1.90m not 1.92m which in this case would be equal to 6.3 feet), so I think I know what happened: as he might not be used to imperial system (which is fair since only americans and some canadians still use this nonsensical measurement), he might have looked up their heights in meters and converted them only into feet, and that's where the problem lies upon because he forgot to include inches too while editing the video, hence mixing up feet and inches with feet only. TL;DR: The numbers in feet/inches are wrong.

Some of this seems wrong to me. Ancient people, especially those who malnourished, were shorter on average than we are today. But there would have been exceptions. And how can anyone really know exact heights of ancient leaders?
