I happened to find a purebred carolina puppy at the SPCA. Was easily only 8-10 weeks old. They said they found her wandering around. She stole my heart, and I took her home. I've had a lot of dogs of different breeds, and she is by far the best I've ever had. If you ever managed to find one for sale or adoption, I highly recommend it.

Never knew for sure what kind of dog I had until now. The vet didn't even know. The best dog I ever had. Had her for 12 years and lost her three years ago. I still morn. Crying as I'm watching this video. Her face, her mannerisms, seems everything just like yours. The absolute best family dogs. Easy to train. She really trained herself to our lifestyle. Extremely lovable. She loved my stepfather and he would come visit every few years, she would remember him when seeing him walk up and get so excited..... great memory for sure.

There used to be a large pack these dogs in Eastern North Carolina, in East Wake county on a dirt road called Pulley Town road. The poor families that lived on that road use to catch them and keep ‘em for pets. As a kid I once witnessed this pack take out two deer that was sprinting across a cow pasture that flanked a marsh area. To this day those dogs or descendants of that pack are still there.

I had the sweetest dingo named Zelda. I was able to rescue her from what I can guess was an abusive home due to how afraid she was of people for several months after I got her. I was so glad that I was able to give her several years of the 'good' life before she passed. Next time I get a dog it will definitely be another dingo... Best dogs in the world.

We had the most beautiful Carolina Dog "Tess" until two months ago. She came from a pound in Greenville South Carolina and was adopted by us at North Shore Animal League in Long Island, NY. She lived for over 14 years and eight months, and even as a puppy was the best girl in the world. Hopefully, people won't start over breeding the CD's and ruin their natural wonderful qualities.

I have what I think is a Carolina dog. We rescued her as a puppy from a high kill shelter in NC three years ago. They told us she was a shepherd/lab mix. She sure looked like it. We live in Virginia. As she grew, we started seeing unusual traits and behaviors. One of or vets said, "That's a Carolina Dog!" I've done a lot of research and believe our Sadie is one. She is absolutely the best dog we've ever had. My daughter has since gone back to that shelter and got another CD pup. She is fox/coyote looking and has a max weight of 30 lbs. We have a lovely pack! I don't think I will ever have any other breed of dog. Still filling in snout holes throughout the yard! Love coming home to my home to my CD who does throw here paws around me for a hug and loses her mind when I come home.

THIS IS MY DOG!!! He came from a shelter in Georgia where he and his siblings were dropped off at 3 weeks. The ears move independently of each other, not just sideways but backwards and forwards too. I wish I could put a picture here. He looks like a buff short haired shepherd in the face but he acts like nothing like a Shepherd. The back of his rib cage sticks out just like that. He's only four and a half months old and he's already killed a snake and a mouse. He leave them at my door like he's getting me treats. And he poops in the bushes. He would cover it up if he possibly could but he's got a broken back toe right now you can tell he wants to. It was just seeing these ears because I kept thinking my dog has Jackal ears. And he's got the black rim eyes.

Carolina Dogs are truly great dogs. I got mine from the pound as a puppy then later found out what he was several moths later. I constantly have people stopping me to ask what kind of dog he is. I grew up with labs my entire life and i must say that he is the best dog i've ever had. If you are looking for a breeder in the middle Tennessee area there is a man named Jim Apple who would be more than happy to talk to you.

Mine was dumped on the edge of the Everglades and was observed for months by would be rescuers. Finally he gave up and he was put up for adoption. Luckily he found me as we have bonded like no other dog has. He runs free and lives at home un fenced. Hates to be petted, totally reliable, smarter than most people I know. In January 2021 I was searching online for a dog to adopt. I found a 3-1/2 year old male that really appealed to me, called the owner and within a few days I brought him home. I live alone in a 2 bdrm house with yard. It took almost 2 mths. for him to begin to warm up to me. I searched online to see if I could find out what type(s) of breed he was and to my surprise he looked like a Carolina Dog. His ears don't stand fully erect but when I hold them up he looks just like the dog's online. The home we lived in was sold and we had to move. Out of necessity we now live in a 1 bdrm apt. but Dusty adapted very quickly. He is a wonderful dog, well mannered with other dogs but doesn't want anything to do with other people. Dusty is so loving and loyal now he wants to be close to me wherever I go, including the bathroom. I couldn't be more pleased with him, I love him very much! I would recommend a Carolina Dog to anyone whether you live in a rural area or in a downtown apartment like we do. Thanks for the video!

I miss my carolina dog named Sasha, she was the best dog ever when I was growing up but she was put down in 2012 when she had a giant tumor in her neck during her elderly years. When I heard the news that she was going to be put down weeks earlier than expected (1h after the phone call) I couldn't bring myself to visit her one last time since I knew I wouldn't be able to let her go without an exchange of fists... I cried for the rest of the day and on and off afterwards. :(

I have a stray Carolina dog that used to run the bicycle trails with me daily. She'd lead and then bolt into the underbrush. She's been my buddy for 17 years now. But now, she's heavily domesticated. Likes to eat people food and such. But when she was young was a fine example of the breed.

I got a puppy for my birthday last June and was told it was a Catahoula + German Shepard, but as he grew there was something different about him. He has an unusual "wild" side, always plays with his food and chews, throwing it in the air and pouncing, and he often jumps up and bites me. . . . After googling a picture of him now at 7 months i know why . . . He is a Carolina Dog, without a doubt.

I know! I wish I had the power to shut down every last puppy mill!!! I rescued a dog of this breed this past January. She was a yr. Old. she spent almost the entire first year of her life in a crate and when I got her she was definitely under weight. She had absolutely no training and was terrified of a leash. Through much training and a lot of patience she has come out shining. She even picks up her leash and walks herself LOL. She is a great addition to my family, her and my other dog are inseparable. A word of caution. These dogs are full of energy is an understatement! They ARE NOT an apartment dog. Oh! I had to make my 4 foot fence into a 7 foot fence! They are very capable of launching! Yes! short story long here. I hope they don't ruin this breed... agree completely!!

Well I was adopted by one of these dogs about a year ago, didn't even have any idea it was a Dixie Dingo until around six months ago. She's older, was pretty much a stray, now she's telling everyone how she rescued me and its her full time job to protect me. Somebody is spoiling the beck out of her, whoever it is better stop. I've had dogs for over 60 years, I'm here to tell you, this rates right up there on my list for a cool dog. Doesn't really care for cuddling much but sometimes when l wake up her head is on my chest, just staring into my eyes. She likes bacon and eggs, chicken, steak, and pork. Imagine that?

Roxie was a Katrina rescue. Her former mistress flew from Washington to get her. Roxie came to us when she was around 9 - 10 years old. Her mistress had cancer that metastisized and asked my wife if we would give her a home. We have ten acres in a fairly rural area. Roxie goes out when I do, and when I go in is at the door within 15 minutes. She doesn't leave the yard unless I do. She is how I learned about the Carolina Dog, and if all the breed is like her... I want another. I do wish she had not been spayed, but unless you are a breeder it is responsible. She looks to have shorter legs that many of the photos I have seen, but all the other markers are there. Her first spring with us she got three moles and a few baby bunnies.

this fully convinces me that my did is carolina dog mix. I wish I would have known earlier I wouldn't have gotten her fixed and bred her with another carolina dog. she's an amazing dog. she does try to cover her feces, and urine (saw you try to do it once) she's very sensative. she's like a tan color with white on her underside. all the way to her tail. one side tan other side white. it is fish hook tail. she launches her self off my porch when she goes outside to potty and runs the whole time except to stop to pee. potty training her was difficult though.

They are very "Pack" oriented. The need a "Alpha" to follow or they will become one. That doesn't mean a "mean" person. Just strong and consistent.

These are such cute dogs! Kind of makes me sad they are aloof/independent though. I'm not a person who likes cat-like dogs. That's why I'd like a dog ha!

They aren't Cat-like. A more accurate term is... Half-wild. They were never, and might not ever be fully tamed. Henceforth, they will be incredibly loyal to the pack system. They're shy, not necessarily finicky. Our Carolina Dog actually came to us out of the wild. She was lost, and abused, and just kind of came to us for some reason. I don't really understand why, that's unusual. Maybe she just wanted to go to a new pack. ANYWAYS, She is now fully part of the pack unit. These dogs react to how you act about them. Don't forget, they aren't fully domesticated. They are a wild breed. everything that determines how they act with you is how you act with them. If you keep them fed, and watered, and loved, then they'll become very good dogs.
