Velcro, I am so very happy you finally got to experience Wagakki Band. I knew you would love them. I find it’s not only that they combine traditional and rock instruments, and style, but they do it in such a masterful way. The singer, Yuko Suzuhana, is a shigin singer, with the very wide vibrato and sometimes nasal sound. She is also a gifted pianist. There are some good translated interviews with the group. Disclaimer, I have a huge crush on Beni, the Shamisen player. 😊😊 When I’m having those rough days I play a lot of Wagakki Band and Band-Maid. It always helps. 😅 I totally agree with you about the mixing.

あのフルート(尺八)は音を出すだけでも集中と努力が必要です。 曲を奏でながら振り回すのは超人的な才能が必要です。

Great reaction, you should do more of them they are an amazing band In the first song during the bass solo it wasn't a flute but a bass effect pedal, it was all from the bass with the guitar later harmonizing with it The wind instrument in the second song is called a shakuhachi The koto is pretty different from a piano, sure both use strings but the koto is only 13 string (some can have more) but has more flexibility with the ability to do vibrato and bends and microtones, also the moving briges for each string makes it so the musician can change tuning on stage to a different songs and some can do it pretty quickly especially those with perfect pitch, also the fact that it is plucked instead of hammered like piano makes the sound very different

You have good knowledge about the various instruments and settings. I have a similar bass effect pedal and when I combine it with the chorus setting in my bass amp I get a similar sound. 😊 I play the shakuhachi too but nowhere near well enough to run and jump while playing like he does. 😮

Oh that's really cool! Had no idea you could that on a pedal for the bass, also about the koto I just meant it visually I agree it sounds nothing like a Piano, I guess harp would be the closest comparison sound wise?

@@VelcroReacts China and Korea also have instruments related to the Koto. In China it is the Guzheng and in Korea it is the Gayageum.

The Koto dates back to the 16th century and was derived from the Guzheng which dates back to the 2nd century BC The piano was developed in the early 18th century its kind of a combination of a Harpsichord and a Hammered Dulcimer the man credited with making the first piano was considered an expert Harpsichord maker

A band I'd highly recomend to you is Unlucky Morpheus. They are part of the "Symphonic Rock" genre. They have a violinist who absolutely shreds. "Welcome to Valhalla" from their latest album is pretty good.

Thank you for checking them out. They are one of my favorite bands in the world, and unique as far as I know. “Wagakki” is Japanese for “traditional instruments” The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi. The Japanese drums are collectively called “wadaiko”. The band was founded by the shigin (classical poetry) singer, SUZUHANA Yuko, who is also a classically trained pianist. She developed the concept of fusing Japanese traditional instruments and musical tropes with modern music. Yes, you’ve heard these instruments a million times, in movie soundtracks, when they want to convey a Japanese atmosphere. Here is a video that really lets you see up close all the instruments and how they work together: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5idmLqcvNfHXX0.html It was originally written for a “Vocaloid” which is an electronic virtual singer-essentially an AI. In Japan (where else?) vocaloids have actually become pop stars. What can I say? America may be the land of innovation for things like tech and social media, but in music no one here cares any more. Most of the creative action has moved to Europe and Japan.

Wagakki band is truly unique. Japan has this music ingenuity to mix genres of music. You should check out, Gesu no Kiwami no Otome which is a pop rock funk jazz genre.

Homura always makes me wish we had more 4-person bands with 2 drummers, guitar and bass rather than a 2nd guitarist. Also, thumbs up for doing your research (or just having the experience) to learn the instruments. OTOH, you're thinking of vibrato, not falsetto.

@@VelcroReacts to Me Yuko has the BEST Vibrato slightly eclipsing Asami (Lovebites) because Yuko does it Japanese Old school style.

If you like the Koto (and the Taiko Drums (and the Flute (and the Shamisen))), ou should try "Gobusei" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mcWIoNt0tqfNmZc.html Also some bo and sword dance/fight involved But primarily I like the great Koto spot in it!
