Akuma hated SFV so much he left it for Tekken 7.

Akuma gave up his humanity, but he still doesn't come across as straight up evil since he still has a sense of honor that keeps him from killing arbitrarily. He just doesn't strike me as evil like Bison, just amoral.

Just a single correction: Goutetsu was a practitioner of Ansatsuken, not satsui no hado, satsui no hado is not a fighting style, but rather harnessing the energy of hatred and darkness.

Akuma was implied to be Ryu's dad in 2 SF movies. Akuma and Gen also had a respect for eachother until Akuma deemed Gen not worthy after finding out that he's sick

If you think about it, Akuma just wanted to pursue his martial art without any restrictions. Usually martial arts get watered down, to remove all the moves that can kill. Akuma wanted to learn the art uncensored so he can use it to its fullest ability. He just wanted to be the best. That is also, why Gen, another martial artist who trained in assassination arts, was a good rival. Gen at his prime, vs Akuma would have been a good fight.

I always did prefer the aesthetic of Oni Akuma over vanilla Akuma. Gives off a much greater sense of savagery in his demeanor and presentation.

I don't see why we can't have a young, pre-hado Gouki as a character in a game

Akuma may have "broke his rule" and killed Bison at the end of SF2 because he saw what Bison was and how he was already consumed by psycho power. So either seeing psycho power as monstrous and or seeing Bison as already dead because he has to switch bodies to survive, Akuma may not have judged him as a living fighter and so just killed him.

Oni isn't a 'what-if' possibility. If u read Rose's win quote against him in the game she says that Oni appears too early on ... implying that Akuma WILL one day become Oni .

It's a shame Capcom is so lazy with their lore and doesn't embrace some of the stellar character arcs that are here. There's no growth with these characters at all, no resolutions to climactic battles game after game, they simply ignore any semblence of their story and let the anime, comics and fans do all the heavy lifting. Then they retread the exact same stories once more and don't resolve these either. How is Ryu still struggling with the Satsui No Hado? How hasn't there been a definite winner with consequences between him and Akuma? It's ridiculously silly. With sales of SFV utterly disappointing, as a long time fan it actually makes me smile as they just don't get it. It isn't enough for these games just to have great gameplay anymore, you have to have content and context to what is going on. Until Street Fighter does this, it will continue its march to being a niche franchise when it deserves so much better.

I wish they make a Street Fighter Prequel game about the past and origins of every older fighter in their younger days such as:Gouken,Gen,Akuma,M Bison,Zeku,etc.

You forgot that Akuma killed Gill in Street Fighter III 2nd Impact. And Shin Akuma is canon but not the Capcom vs SNK 2 version.

I remember playing Akuma a LONG while back in Capcom Vs SNK 2 and SNK Vs Capcom. Nowadays in SFV and Tekken 7, he's still my main...even if I'm not that good at fighting games.

In an animated Street Fighter Alpha movie, when Ryu asks if Akuma had a son, Akuma replies, "Where I fight, I fight alone. Where I walk, I walk alone", thus revealing that Ryu is NOT Akuma's son.

Kinda late, but oh well. Oro isn't the only character to get along with Akuma. Elena did befriend him in her ending. Canon or not, she did it, and that's impressive.

I think Akuma acknowledged Cody Travers as a strong foe, if he actually tried. Just throwing that out here. Can anyone confirm/deny it?

1. The fight with Asura obviously isn't canon, but it's used to more accurately portray Oni's abilities as a fighter. Not canon doesn't mean not possible. It's just not part of the main continuity. 2. It's implied (via Rose's win quote in SF4) that becoming Oni isn't just a "What-If," but Akuma's actual fate as a fighter.

Goutetsu's fighting style is Ansatsuken, not Satsui No Hado, which is only the part dealing with the use of dark power. But even Ansatsuken is a word that simply refers to any martial art created for and used for lethal purposes. In this, it is similar to the ancient japanese martial arts possessing the suffixe -jutsu or jitsu) that were defined as systems used for the battlefield as opposed to modern systems with the suffixe -do that refer to martial arts used for personal development or sports....like kenjutsu vs kendo, for exemple. This difference is essentially what separates fighters like Akuma and Gouken, even though they trained in the same system of martial arts.

Hey history of the warrior! Huge fan of your vidoes. I'm mostly a tekken fan and know little about street fighter so seeing Akuma in this new Tekken really interested me. I actually thought that he was the main villain of Street fighter due to his popularity but thanks to this video I see how it is really bison. Akuma does indeed seem like a cool character. I like that he is bad but has a sense of honor about him. Him being friends with Kazumi and willing to kill Heihachi actually makes more sense now. Hopefully there will be more about him that will connect the dots between his character and the Mishima's in the future.

Akuma and Gouken rivalry reminds me of Ashura and Indra's rivalry in Naruto Shippuden.

I love Oni as a character, basically all demon and destruction personified.

Gouki may have left his humanity and accepted the Dark hadou, but one thing still stands, he follows a code of honor as a warrior and only fights those who are as strong as him, those weaker than him he finds no sense of joy or anything.

I've always loved Akuma, he shows us that there is no good or evil; there is only pov.

Akuma is a perfect true demon, we can't say him bad, he mastered all the skills, gen was laughing and coughing at him after his defeat and he said that until he has no humanity, he cannot be a demon god, but I think he is, and he has humanity because among a weak opponent he asks his rival If he wants to leave or if he's feared of him, he give them a chance to walk away , otherwise he kills his opponent, if the opponent even survives he don't care, he consider his rival defeated, and I think that's enough of humanity in him because he's a demon, because if he has no humanity he would kill anyone even when his opponent was not ready.

The prayer beads are a way to intentionally handicap himself. It's like permanent holy water on a demon. He fights mortals while wearing the beads so he doesn't have an unfair supernatural advantage. He wants the most from his opponents.

Goki jacks the prayer beads of his dead teacher (who he kills) and wears them as the "true master"!? Akuma is by far the baddest SF character of all time, yup, I said it!

great job on his story. only thing u missed out is from street fighter origins akuma book is the reason why he killed gotetsu was because gotetsu sent him away for pilgrimage for a warrior in the mountains and at some point he came across some warriors who killed his father...from which he realised these men trained underneath gotetsu who were corrupted by the pilgrimage in the mountains. out of revenge he killed gotetsu

In response to the last thing you said at around 9:50. If akuma found an opponent worthy he would continue fighting to the death. But a lot of those opponents and he didn't find worthy while fighting them you walked away. That's what I think why his integrity is kind of sordid when it comes how many wins and losses he has on his record.

Shin Akuma is simply Akuma fighting at his full potential. He usually holds back against fighters to test if they are even worthy to fight at an even playing field. He says this in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact. The Shin Akuma in the SNK crossovers are different though.

Something to note... Gen was dying before Akuma found him.. Akuma realized this when he coughed up the blood and decided to stop because he did not wish to fight a dying man that was the reason that fight ended in a draw

Now this is the canon story. The one thing missed here is that Ryu still has the dark hadou in SFV Necalli seems to be the one to take care of that. I think Gen and Adon being dissed by Akuma means he is really that powerful, he's constantly searching for that worthy opponent. Gill was definitely dead, but resurrection kept him alive, also Ingrid is another key part of this since in sfa3 Max she's said to have links to Satsui no hado, psycho power and her own.

Keep in mind that Akuma and Oro fought to a stalemate, with Oro having one arm tied behind his back. And we have yet to see Akuma fight Morrigan canon, much less in the fully formed power modes.

I think the fact that akuma even let elena take a picture with him means he gets along with her.

The cool thing about Akuma is that unlike E. Ryu he has complete control over the Hado. Whereas Ryu is controlled by it.

Akuma and Ryu have the same goal when you think about it. They both want to find the most worthy opponents and perfect their skill. They just have two drastically different methods of doing so. And that’s what I like about him. Plus his special move is perfection.
