I grew up in the late 1950's & early 1960's playing an ebony upright Baldwin that my mom bought for me.

Growing up my family had a Baldwin console piano in our foyer and I swear it was the best sounding piano ever imo

I am absolutely in awe everytime I play a Baldwin grand manufactured between the years of 1965 - 1978. They are just special pianos. They can smoke a Steinway any time. I play at a church that has a 1974 "SF" 7' Baldwin Grand in the chapel which totally out performs in every way a 2005 D Steinway in the Sanctuary.

Back in the early 80's I had the privilege of working with a major Baldwin dealer as a piano mover, We had an SD-10 that was used and signed by many Baldwin artists. My favorite quote from an artist was from Liberace, he said I have a Baldwin Hamilton in my bath room in case I need to tinkle.

Thank you for these great videos. I just bought my 1st ever piano, an Acrosonic Console, mid 1980's, from the original owner. I love it, and though I just turned 60 I'm looking forward to learning to play better and really enjoy it when I retire down the years. Thanks again.

Goodness gracious! Robert and Roger are the nicest guys! I called about a piano I am looking at in Tennessee. Robert walked me through what to look for and offered to send me information. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. Life is good!

We recently purchased a near-mint condition 1936 Hamilton-Baldwin baby grand. The original owner taught piano, yet, her daughter, who maintained the upkeep all these years, took no interest in music, so passed on the piano and we ended up with it - LOVE IT! Could you please do a video on your opinion and knowledge of the build quality of that era? Thanks - and you do, indeed, make great and informative videos!

I just picked up a 1943 Model L and its amazing. I was so happy to be able to pull this early production model from the market. I love understanding the history and was very impressed with the continued comparisons to Steinway. This should make an excellent heir loom to pass on.

We just got a mint condition Baldwin Artist Series L grand piano that has never been played - built in the 1990s before the decline of Baldwin.

When Gibson took over, they said they were going to "restore Baldwin to the piano powerhouse it once was." Yeah, right. The first thing they did was hold an outdoor press conference at which a Baldwin baby grand was hoisted into the air by a helicopter and then dropped and smashed on the parking lot. This was to symbolize "in with the new and out with the old." Any company that would stoop to wantonly destroying a beautiful musical instrument has no credibility with me at all. Would they have done that to one of their high end artist guitars? And anyway, in the musical instrument field, the old is often superior. With no more concert and artist department, there is no longer any such thing as being a Baldwin artist, which used to mean something. May great artists played and endorsed Baldwin pianos. But now, it's just another generic piano brand made overseas! It's a crying shame! Some of the blame for what happened to Baldwin goes to their prior management before the bankruptcy. They had a number of chief executives who did not come from the musical instrument manufacturing industry and didn't have a clue. Their last concert and artist director insulted and drove away a number of serious artists. They never understood that there is a large and devoted audience for classical piano, and these people have money and buy quality pianos. Their advertising seemed to ignore this market. Sort of reminds me of another high quality piano company that forgot who they were talking to: Mason & Hamlin!

Don't get me started on Gibson...another shell of a former great musical instrument manufacturer. A shame what they've done with the Baldwin brand, and have had many issues with the Guitar division as well. It was close to collapse recently. . I've read that a big part of the equation, like almost always, is money. Here in the USA Piano sales for the home/retail market are about 35000 per year, but China buys about 350000 per year. 10 times the sales volume.. Makes better business sense to build them near the end user, especially for such an expensive item to ship. Still a shame though and an end to a great era.

I find it very sad that a company like Gibson should have stooped to putting the Baldwin piano name on a cheap import. I say cheap but I doubt that this applies yo the price tag on the piano, but none the less it is NOT a Baldwin and never will be. As one who arranges and writes I freely admit to using a Kurzwiel purely because all the sounds are there, but nothing can take the place of a real piano, for both touch and full body tone. I have to say that this guitar maker of renown has just taken a bit of a drop.

I can't agree with you more John! What became of Baldwin still blows my mind! I often think if the original factory and team were still producing the true Baldwin pianos, what they would be like today?

Gibson you should bring back the Truman facilities . The Artist series you should start first with and at least build 3 different models.. This is no different than your USA made Gutiars .. Consumers around the world will purchase USA. Made Baldwin the same as the Guitars. In the Music Stores the difference of the Vintage and the non USA made Pianos are no comparison.. I understand building a low budget piano , but don't sacfrice the name with a decal and try to push it off as a fine instrument. Also Invent some new Baldwin foot pedals for Gutiar , but don't make those unless you build in USA.. To close to Memphis and St.Louis and Delta of the Mississippi to let this Legacy go .. Start doing restorations and special order custom pianos. Should be plenty of great technicians who live the area.. I use to travel thru Truman and it was the most Impressive Landmark and I have seen many. Do it Gibson would be such a boost to both brands. P..S I only buy and have bought only your USA Brand . The Envy of the world.
