Hello Everyone!! Today we will discuss the early history of the State of Cambodia 🇰🇭, Cambodia's history dates back to the Funan and Chenla kingdoms, which flourished from around the 1st to the 9th centuries AD. These kingdoms were known for their trade networks and cultural exchanges with neighboring regions, including India and China, The most famous period in Cambodian history is the Angkor Empire, which lasted from the 9th to the 15th centuries. During this time, the Khmer Empire, centered around the capital city of Angkor, was a powerful force in Southeast Asia. The empire constructed elaborate temple complexes, including the iconic Angkor Wat, and engaged in both trade and conflict with neighboring states, the 19th century, Cambodia came under French colonial rule along with other countries in the region. Cambodia was part of French Indochina until it gained independence in 1953 under King Norodom Sihanouk, Cambodia experienced a turbulent period in the late 20th century, marked by civil war and the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge regime. The Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, ruled Cambodia from 1975 to 1979 and implemented radical social and economic policies that resulted in the deaths of an estimated 1.7 to 2 million people through execution, forced labor, and starvation, Following the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge regime by Vietnamese forces in 1979, Cambodia entered a period of Vietnamese occupation and subsequent civil war. The United Nations brokered a peace agreement in 1991, leading to democratic elections in 1993 and the establishment of the Kingdom of Cambodia as a constitutional monarchy.Contemporary Cambodia: Since the 1990s, Cambodia has undergone significant economic development and political changes. However, the country still faces challenges related to poverty, corruption, and human rights abuses. The ruling Cambodian People's Party, led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, has been in power since the early 1980s, making it one of the longest-serving governments in the world. Cambodia continues to rebuild and develop, striving for stability and progress in the 21st century.
