This is a historical tribute to the iconic Canadian Tire LTD. This is the first in an on going series of retrospects looking into stores in Canada. I hope you enjoy the video and I invite you to share your favourite Canadian Tire memory in the comments bellow. I was not paid by CT to do this video of course, I'm just a guy doing a thing on the youtube.

I sourced both Wikipedia and www.autofocus.ca/news-events/a... for the information and used the google to come up with everything else.

Special thanks to Canadian Tire for probably not getting mad at me for filming in their location :)

CTC in the 70s was the best deal in town on many items. Today I find them to be very expensive! ~ including sportcheck and marks work warehouse. Pricing is very high in my opinion. Look at their flyers and you will see items on sale at 40% off all the time. To me, that reveals the true profits they are making!

I remember Canadian Tire used to be auto repairs, parts, gardening tools, household tools, and hardware store in the 1960's .Now it turns to another SELLERS type of store which got closed out of business. Now it's in threat by the American BIG Box store.

Very good video on interesting subject matter! CT used to be, in the 60s~70s, that store where you could almost make a day of it (I'm packing my lunch, wait a minute!) playing "what if I...?". These days however, that niche seems to have been overtaken by Princess Auto...not the same but huge and inspiring to the fabricator nonetheless.

I guess you do not mind getting taken to the cleaners when it comes to prices. I cross the border and shop at Walmart in the US. What is $22.37 in the US is about $60 at Canadian Tire. It must be a British thing because pricing in the UK and Australia are also over the top.

@@ThaDocta0623 Where were you born? Anyway, as a Canadian, I am sick and tired about how we get shafted up here. We have liquor and beer stores run by the government or by a single business, therefore no competition. Same for just about all other products, yet minimum wage here in my province is the same as minimum wage in the state at my border. And they always have lame excuses up here as to why everything costs so much. Plus not only do you pay more, in many cases you have to get it from the US. What are we, some commie country? I joke about it, Canadian business wants to open today and shut down and retire by tomorrow, that is why pricing is so high. LOL I have had it up to here, so I just head stateside for a long weekend and shop.

In the 90's, the "Scrooge Approved" Christmas specials are the most memorable ad campaign, why don't they do it again??? Unfortunately, the CT paper "money" deal is only a shadow of it's former self. Back in the early 80's, my local small market store (Espanola, Ont) gave 3% back in "money" for cash purchases, medium market (Sudbury) gave 4%, and large market (Toronto) gave 5%. That's very significant. Today, stores only give 0.4% for cash purchases, and they encourage you to use a special "Money" card to scan and collect rather then print and give out paper notes. I think that the eventual disappearance of the paper CT money is absolutely inevitable. Clerks will be relieved they don't have to deal with the double cash-drawer setups.

@Sadly that's true. I went in for a job interview at the Canadian tire in Cranbrook british columbia. And I have Indian friends and co workers at a new job and they said Canadian tire is very racially insensitive. And the lady at the Cranbrook Canadian tire. Well two of them. Down played the virus A LOT. It is horrible. I'm sad if they still have their jobs. They were the manager and supervisor there. So sad and so wrong.

...ok, so, the name of the beloved chain is "Canadian Tire", well known and respected... mostly. In their recent television commercial they hire "Gary", ok, fine, one problem here... if the chain is called "Canadian Tire" and you have this god-given chance to be as Canadian as possible and really lay on the "Canada" and stand out from all the American crap on television then why in the name of Sweet Jesus does "Gary" keep saying "HUH" "HUH?" for the love of all that is holy and Canadian "Gary" can you please say "EH" ???? I get the vibe the commercials are American-made and hence the damn "HUH" --- what a lost opportunity. Who the hell puts these damn commercials together without at least one lightbulb going off?

so canada hah ? with more than 30 million population and having 100 of stores which is made by USA and Head Quarters of those brands are in USA but just one canadian tire in whole country and yet when you want to exchange one single defective item you have to go 3-4 times in their stores and see their policy if someone who is new to canada does not have debit and credit card pay cash and by accident that person loss their receipt than that item purchased is useless they cannot accept your item because you new immigrant do not have right to pay cash get their credi card Triangle credit card whatever they have or you have to throw your item in garbage 😭🙏🏽

Change the title to Canadian Tire Rip-Off. I am tired of their over inflated pricing. The fact that sales are 50 to 70% off tells you regular pricing is over the top. I rarely or never buy anything there unless it is 50% off.
