This beloved Fantasyland classic is the last of its kind. But what makes this attraction so fun, so...classic? Well, join me for an in-depth view into the history of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, a journey to nowhere in particular! (Yes this is a refreshed version of a previous upload. Due to copyright infringement, I had to take down the video and remove a music track. I took the time to add new narration and music to the original)

You are handling Disney Horribly, You are Crushing Walts Legacy which the Disney Fans REAL Disney Fans see that Disney has turned into a Disaster by Retheming Jungle Cruise, and plotting Splash Mountain even Changing Snow White Attraction. Walt Disney's Legacy is Sabotage he did not want Princess to be raised yet! You're taking People's Money! Why the Hell do you insist on screwing up with the original Disney!? You and Bob Iger have Wrecked Disney and I really don't think you have Idea what you're doing! You should bring Disney back to the way it was, Walt Disney may not be with us anymore But still his Legacy is! And Walts Legacy is not yours But what you should do is carry on his Legacy and not Put it in the Grave with him! Also Stars Wars and Marvel have to go their not Disney Related, being Rude isn't My meaning only just telling you how I Feel and being Honest

@@UCRfZb91nX-triozNmzvaRrA “what Walt would have wanted” was change. That and the fact that nearly everything he made was his interpretation of someone else’s ideas. Do you know what was the first feature length individual story that made by Walt Disney Feature animation that WASN’T an adaptation of a preexisting work? “The Emperor’s New Groove”! And even that started life as a take on “The Prince and the Pauper”! Walt’s legacy is built on the backs of others.

@metropod, Walt didn't like that nearly all fairytales and children's stories ended in tragedy and loss, he felt that the stories were classic, but not endearing to the hearts of children, well except for the story of Peter Pan, of course. He wanted to reinterpret all the fairytales and stories into optimistic and wishful stories that could be enjoyed by the whole family. Yes Walt recreated a lot of already-told stories, but he did it better. He also did create original animation, Fantasia is a good example of several animations like "The Rite of Spring". Another Disney original animation was "Flowers and Trees" which skyrocketed his early success. Let's not forget that most Mickey Mouse cartoons were originals as well. But yes Fantasia was an original feature length animation story, as was Dumbo, Saludos Amigos, the three Caballeros, Make Music Mine, Lady and the Tramp, and The Lion King. Not to mention Walt produced a lot of original live action content. So no, he didn't build his empire on the backs of others.

I sometimes worry about the classic rides of Disneyland becoming too "old fashioned" to remain popular. Then I ride them and that worry melts away. They make you feel great, now same as ever, and that's what it's all about.

I’ve always thought it would be very entertaining to be a fly on the wall during the meeting where someone pitched the hell scene. Someone had to say, “I’ve got this great idea for the ride” and someone ELSE had to say “yes! That’s it! That’s what we should do!” The fact that this scene is in the ride is so bizarre.

The genius of the dark rides is the simplicity. Disney took the idea of the dark ride and elevated it with familiar characters and a polish that's hard to match. Love this ride.

Alex, how do you do it. Another GEM.... I don't know how Disney did it back in the 50's but all the dark rides, Peter Pan my best, were all "almost" perfect. The simplicity was the charm, the 80's re-do to the dark rides was somewhat needed but they lost just a bit of the charm of the originals. Thanks again to Alex for his hours of work he does for our benefit. Stay safe, Stay strong.....

Alex just to let you know even though there are those who don't know about Disney's wind in the willows. And of course for some that know about that Disney animated classic, and they love to ride Mr toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland. The truth is for some people who don't know about the Disney animated classic, after when they ride Mr toad's Wild Ride. Some people would go to them, mainly parents and grandparents saying that Mr toad's Wild Ride is based on a Disney animated classic called wind of the willows. And of course they encourage those young people to watch the Disney animated classic itself, some would struggle to try to find it on DVD and so forth. But when they finally watch it, they might fall in love with it afterwards. If they remember writing Mr toad's Wild Ride, and at the same time that they would think that it's a great Disney movie and part of their love of other Disney movies that they've seen. And of course there's also Disney plus, so for those that have rode on Mr toad's Wild Ride, and that they're like young people and so forth that don't know about wind of the willows. When their parents and grandparents encourage them to watch the Disney animated classic, they would immediately go to Disney plus and try to find it. And once they do, I believe that they might have some interest on the movie. And would try to fall in love with it, along with other Disney animated movies that they have seen previously and grown up with. So even though Mr toad's Wild Ride is a great ride for the fans of the wind of the willows to experience at Disneyland, and it's there number one favorite. Because the wind of the willows is one of their favorite Disney animated classics. On the other hand of Mr toad's Wild Ride, the ride itself helps promote the Disney animated classic to a whole new generation of young people and kids. And because they would ride on Mr toad's Wild Ride who knows how many times, after that someone would tell them. Including maybe their parents and grandparents about the Disney animated classic the wind of the willows. And afterwards those young people and the kids would want to watch the movie after they've experienced the ride. And I was one of them as well, I've went on Mr toad's Wild Ride at some point when I was a kid. I think when I was like a preteen, until I got a preview about the adventures of Ichabod and Mr toad. From a Disney home video VHS, and I remembered asking my dad one time that I would like to have it. So I can know of what it was all about and so forth, unfortunately I never got the adventures of Ichabod and Mr toad. And never got a DVD of the wind in the willows, so I tried years and years wanting to watch The wind and The willows or the wind of the willows. I can't get the title right basically, but anyway it wasn't until Disney plus came along. And I finally saw it, and thought it was a very good Disney animated classic. So I do believe for some young people that have rode on Mr toad's Wild Ride who knows how many times, especially little kids. Somebody would tell them about the Disney animated classic, and some people like their parents and grandparents would tell them the same thing as well. And afterwards they would get the chance to watch wind of the willows or when in the willows, and they would probably get some interest in the Disney animated classic and they might fall in love with it. Just like the other Disney animated classics that they have seen before. I believe this is how it's like nowadays, for those that don't know about the Disney animated classic. Unless Mr toad's Wild Ride first gives them promotion to it, before they watch it. And before somebody tells them about it as well 👍😉

I nice redo of an older video. FYI, watch the dragon at the end of the ride. See the light in his mouth? He used to belch smoke like the explosion scene on Big Thunders finale. You can hear him coughing as you burst out the door. I don't think the smoke effect has worked in a long time. The smoke (vapor) would linger in the scene giving hell a hazy appearance. They need to bring that back.

The best hidden satire in the ride is that “Hell” starting after the 80’s refurb actually became a political/social commentary on a corrupt legal system. In the original cartoon, the judge featured in the ride is the prosecutor for the crown. Satan is depicted more than once in The New Testament as a prosecutor and the prosecutor appears in the hell scene holding a judges gavel instead of a pitchfork.

Alex the Historian I just got a perfect idea that you should do for any of your upcoming videos. First of all I don't think you ever talked about the Country Bear jamboree yet, and how the attraction changed with two other shows for those classic Disney attraction characters. I think you should do a three-part series about the Country Bears, part 1 should be called the history of the Country Bear jamboree, part 2 should be called the history of the Country Bear Christmas celebration and part 3 should be called the history of the country bear vacation hoedown. Just to let you know Alex, I have found a couple of videos on KZfaq. Where they talk about all three shows the Country Bear jamboree, the Country Bear Christmas celebration and the country bear vacation hoedown. And I think maybe I found a couple of videos where it just talks about the Country Bear jamboree, and I found a couple of videos that talks about the Country Bear Christmas celebration. And I've only found one video that talks about the country bear vacation hoedown. And to me it's kind of sad that only one video on KZfaq is dedicated to the Country Bear vacation hoedown, and let me tell you this Alex. The country bear vacation hoedown is basically my number one favorite version of The Country Bears, I do love the original Country Bear jamboree. It is a true classic, but I like vacation hoedown kind of better than the original. But at the same time I still like the original Country Bear jamboree, because it is a classic and I do want to respect for the other fans that love that one as well. And to be on their side because it's a classic. So basically I'm sort of in between two teams of fans the Country Bear jamboree team and the country bear vacation hoedown team, I'm in between teams. At first I was part of the vacation hoedown team. But now I'm between two teams, the Country Bear jamboree team and the country bear vacation hoedown team. So with that in mind as well, please make sure that if you talk about the country bear attraction, please make sure to do it in a three-part series. The first one talking about the classic Country Bear jamboree, and the whole video dedicated to the entire show of the original Country Bear jamboree, and then a second video where it's all dedicated to the Country Bear Christmas celebration throughout the video. And finally a third video where the entire video is dedicated to the Country Bear vacation hoedown. And at the same time I'm waiting for somebody to do a video where the entire video dedicates and talks about the history of the country bear vacation hoedown, and it doesn't talk about the other country bear shows the original jamboree and the Christmas special. I'm really waiting for someone on KZfaq, to make a video about the history and dedicating to the country bear vacation hoedown. And I hope you will be the perfect and great person to do it. 👍😉 But again you got to make sure that you do other videos that talk about the history and dedicate to the other two country bear attractions as well, starting with part one of the history of the Country Bear jamboree. Part 2 the history of the Country Bear Christmas celebration, and finally part 3 the history of the country bear vacation hoedown. I hope you'll remember this idea, and I hope to see three new upcoming videos. Where each single video talks about the history and its own version of the country bear attraction show, and of course all three videos are like a three-part video series as well. I really hope to see this very soon as part of your upcoming videos of your KZfaq channel 👍😉

I just finished reading a comment where a guy tells me "an engineer doesn't 'drive' a train, he runs it"...when you read stuff like this constantly it really burrows its way under your skin after a day. Someone yesterday scolded me for referring to aquamarine as "blue". I just wish people would just think "eh, close enough, you may pass" and let it go. Not to mention that I post corrections in pinned comments at the top of comments sections, which hardly anyone actually reads, so I just get multiple people correcting me on the same things. It gets overwhelming.

Did you know there was a Mr toad in Disney world? It was replaced by Winnie the Pooh in 1998

Ah yes, but if less is more, just think about how much more, more would be! 😁

Agree... but what I mean is that this ride is flawless... all the animatronics and the newest effects, on time look or may look kind of old... but Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is ageless... It makes me feel in a cartoon and the train effect is simply amazing... great job on the video, thanks for your comment and greetings from Mexico City.

I agree with you :) I was only making a joke about the "Less is more" thing. But yeah I agree, what makes the classic rides so fun is their simplicity.

How can you call this a History of and not mention the former WDW version?

Because this is ONLY a history of the Disneyland version. Not of Mr. Toad rides in general.
