Bringing out an informative video to you guys as a lot of people don't know the full story on the Big Block Chevy. These engines were almost untouchable in their prime and still remain drag strip warriors. Bringing a new level of torque and horsepower to the game unseen before it's introduction. Long live the Big Block.

Nice video Bud, I did enjoy learning bout the big block. In the 90's my dad rebuilt a '69 Chevelle and ended up with a 454 in er. It was a NICE car. Pretty fast too, but not as quick as my coupe though. It's got a '61 283 running a Duntov Solid Lifter Cam, 3 Rochester 2g's with mechanical secondaries, and a 4-speed. At 2150 the '30 Ford 5-window Coupe is HARD to beat stoplight racing......

2:34 wow, I didn't know about this one. Thanks. These w engines had flat bottom heads with no combustion chamber. I think it's called a heron design.

Good job! My first car had a transplanted 348 from a truck. It was a lot of motor for that '56 Chevy, enough to prompt me to learn how to replace axles (on the roadside) and transmissions. It was great way to start a "gotta have more power" youth!

'61 409s were available in Biscayne and Bel air bodies as well as Impala . Super Sport was a dealer only add on in '61,. 1962 was the first true SS cars , and we're available with all engines even the 235 six cylinder . The 396 was also available in all full size cars in '65 , not just the Vette and Chevelle .

@RatMaro
@RatMaro 3 жыл бұрын
I actually did record a part on the LS7 however decided to exclude it as it would of brought us down a rabbit hole for all of the different crate engines, I do think I will be making a separate video covering these topics as there's some oddball chevy stuff such as the McLaren Can-Am aluminum big blocks they used making around 800hp in the early 70s

In 1970 the LS7 was supposed to go into the Corvette and the LS6 into the Camaro , but management killed that one off due to the insurance companies and the Feds .

Hey question the 427 tall deck what was the whole deal on that one. I have learned expensive parts. Mostly hated but the few that love them really like them. I just happened to have acquired one that is running.
@RatMaro
@RatMaro 3 жыл бұрын
Tall deck 427s are awesome. They are great platforms for making a big cubic inch big block with the right rotating assembly. I left them out of the video specifically just as they are a bit niche and I wanted to keep it kind of down to the point as those were only used in very large trucks. But yeah if you have a tall deck, I'd definitely save it for making a stroker out of. I think you can get around 535 cubic inches out of one with the right crank,rods and pistons.

@@RatMaro is there anyone near Cheyenne Wyoming or in the us that I should contact to have it built right? If you have a few choices that would be awesome. I have a running 427 tall deck out of an 83 c70. I have never had a big block and I think it could be fun to put in one of my square body Chevys. I just picked up a 1974 and 1975 k5 that I want to have some fun with. Any advice or contact info would be greatly appreciated.

Tall decks are pretty cool! I mostly stuck to general history however I probably should of included the 366 and 427. A lot of people use the 427 tall decks to make strokers

@@RatMaro can you explain strokers a little bit more? Similar to a 383 stroker? Just don't know what stroker stands for
@russellmooneyham3334
@russellmooneyham3334 2 жыл бұрын
@@michealdumasii5432 stroker means whatever engine you are building, you increase the stroke. Usually bore is increased to gain cubic inches. However boring is seriously limited by cylinder wall thickness in your casting. Stroke however, can be increased substantially in many applications. And stroke =torque. Hope this helps
