This is Nitika Thakur starting HP gk series in which we will cover hp geography, art and culture of Himachal Pradesh, administration of hp, ancient medivial and modern history of himachal Pradesh and districts profile of Himachal Pradesh.
It is believed that the present Una district was formerly a part of the ersrwhile kangra state. Bulk of the present Una district which is called jaswan dun was ruled by the katoch family of kangra. The jaswan state with its capital at Rajpura near Amb was founded by Purab Chand belonging to katoch family of kangra state in 1170 A.D.
Jaswan was the first off shoot of the kangra state. From Purab Chand to Ummed Singh 27 princes ruled the jaswan state.
Formerly princely State Kutlehr is a part of UNA district. It consisted of two provinces Chauki and Kutlehr. Kutlehr was is the smallest of all the principalities in the kangra area. The progenitor of the family of kutlehr was a Brahmin but on acquiring regal power he was recognised as rajput.
The sanad granted by the Mughal emperors to local rulers addressing them as Rai with right to rule over the tracks on payment of tribute. The last raja of the family was brij Mohan pal.
