I find it criminal that Hollywood has produced so many movies about Cleopatra yet hardly any about other famous Egyptian women like Nefertiti and Hatshepsut. Edit: My original post was just an observation and not intended to spark a race debate down in the comments. Lol

For me Amarna period is one of the most fascinating historical periods in sense of art. It appears that this period gave craftsmen the freedom of artistic expression which allowed them to create "realistic" sculptures. And the bust of Nefertiti is one of my the most favorite pieces of the Egyptian art.

@@HistoryExplained I learned of the Nefertiti and Akhenaten in 1954 through watching the film "" The Egyptian", with all it faults I still watch it now, I have been fascinated in ancient Egypt ever since, traying to connect Biblical text to the chronology of the Pharaohs involved, watched many documents, by so called experts. Yes the 18th dynasty was the most interesting, fascinating talked about period of ancient Egypt

The bust of Nefertiti may be a forgery but the museum where its held won't allow scientists to conduct tests and put the speculation to rest. It would be unfortunate if it was discovered that the most famous bust in the world was a fake but considering that ancient Egyptian art is not known for naturalistic depictions it is a possibility.

There's so many gaps in our knowledge due to fragmentary sources from the Amarna period. It'd be great to find just even a little about what really happened during Nefertiti's life. Who she was, where she came from, and if she really did become the singular ruler of Egypt after Akhenaten's death. It's fun to speculate. Thanks for the video.

Despite enthusiasm for Akhenaten and Nefertiti as the first monotheists, it has become increasingly clear that the only monotheistic god being worshiped in Akhentaten was Akhenaten and many of the residents were abused, starved, and worked to death very young. He may have been hated for very good reason.

We don’t know where she came from, who her parents were, or if she did become Akhenaten’s heir. Unless somebody discovers ancient writings, new tombs, etc. we won’t know. Actually we know more about the so called Amarna period- the town was named Akhetaten - than other Egyptian periods. Egyptians almost always used titles and ancestors and other information to advertise important people in their tombs or when they were mentioned. If you were a kings daughter or your father was an important person you wanted that known. If you didn’t mention any such thing, you probably weren’t anyone important. I suspect Amonhotep lll, who had hundreds of women from many other countries in his numerous harems, probably brought one of the most beautiful to his court-attractive women were called ornaments of the court and decorated the palace with their presence. She was probably a pretty face, but one who was clever as well, and made the most of her thrall over a rather unattractive man, the son of the pharaoh. We may never know who she was, but if she is KV21B, she was probably murdered in a coup with her daughter Ankhesenamon. DNA tells us KV21A was the mother of the fetuses found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and most likely Ankhesenamon, and the closely related older woman found with her either a sister or mother, and since she was too old to be a sister, mother fits better. Nefertiti was Ankhesenamon’s mother. KV21B is the best candidate for Nefertiti. Read Dennis Forbes excellent book, ‘Bones in a Basket’ and look up KV21B for more information.

Well, you could blame the Priests of Caenac for that lack of records of the Amarna royalties... After the death of Tutenkhamun, the priest erased their records so that they will not be remembered by the future generations, as they're heretics of the main religion of Ancient Egypt....

I understand and agree. Hatshepsut's reign of over twenty years is mindblowingly impressive. A women ruling over all men in the most powerful empire on Earth at the time for so long is simply remarkable! Not to mention that she was actually one of the most accomplished pharaohs of all time as well...🤯

Isn't high princess supposed to be a spiritual teacher , highly educated in all the subjects of that era? She is the female counterpart of priest and is advicer and councillor to the king in managing law and order of the land, astrology or reading the almanac, etc. She is supposed to have the knowledge of the stars, movement of water bodies, philosophy. She is seen with a crown of moon, a septor indicating her position and the tora which is the list of all the laws of that land. And High Priestess is usually the sister of pharaoh . High Priestesses don't marry . They are considered to possess divine knowledge of the Universe. We can still find remains of ancient temples of these spiritual figures. How is Nefertiti a High Priestess? She was the Queen Mother of a pharaoh who died of probably some disease when he was 16 or 17 years old. Nefertiti's husband died when Tutenkhamen was still an infant. So Nefertiti had to rule untill he was old enough to be the king. It is said that many people died due to some mysterious disease and Nefertiti's complete family died of that disease. In order to protect afterlife of the young pharaoh, Tutenkhamen, a secret curse was written on the coffin. It was a warning that whoso ever disturbed the Pharaoh's body would die. Ancient Egyptians believed that life exists after death.

She was very good for her people. She and her husband led the belief in one G-d. That was considered radical at the time. Many Egyptians opposed her and her husband for their beliefs. King Tut was only kept because he was young and carried out the wishes of those opposed to his father.
