As soon as I saw those swells I would have turned nose into them. I've been caught out before, not responding quickly enough and taking an early bath as a result. I lost some gear and, obviously, my day was ruined but it could have been far worse! Steep learning curve. Stay safe my man.

I use to have a narrow, non-fishing kayak so you really had to be careful of swells. The technique was to keep your torso vertical and let the kayak roll underneath you with your hips. Butt stays in the seat as you bend left or right at the waist to stay vertical to the water. If you brace to kayak with your hands you’ll flip.

Mark, Here's a super easy Red Beans and Rice recipe that I cook in a crock pot. I'm from Louisiana and got this from my Cajun grandmother, (except she used a regular pot): 1 lb dry red beans 1 lb Savoie's Andoulle Sausage 1 pk Savoie's Tasso 1 -2 TBS olive oil 2 onions - chopped 2 bell peppers - chopped 2 TBS minced garlic 1/4 tps cayenne pepper 1/4 tps white pepper 1/2 tps black pepper 4-5 splashes Worchestershire sauce 2-3 splashes of Tabasco 1/2 TBS salt (or to taste) Cut up sausage and tasso in to small pieces and saute in skillet in olive oil. Place in a paper towel lined bowl and pat down with paper towel to remove excess grease. Dump in crock pot. Saute' onions, bell peppers, and garlic in the remainder of the grease left in skillet. Dump in crock pot. Add dry beans, and remaining ingredients to crock pot. Add water to crock pot until it's close to the top (about an inch from the top). Turn crock pot on HIGH. I usually start it around 8:00 or 9:00 at night. When I go to bed at around 11:00, I turn the crock pot to LOW and let it cook all night. At that time I'll add water before I go to bed if it's needed.

hehe , in Oregon Inlet , me and the wife are usually about less than 100 feet from offshore boats rolling by at 15 MPH or more , we nose into the waves , bouncy ,bouncy , and done , wake probably 3 feet or more. Kayaks when you nose in can take some serious chop and 90 degree angles. I actually had my autopilot drive bang on the bottom a few times because the trough made the water below the kayak shallower than my draft lol..............autopilot has been awesome through it all.

Yes, Old town needs to make some changes to the seating comfort. I’m 6’2” and have the same issue with it. Added padding is helpful but not the right fix. The autopilot seat looks like it has a totally different design to the seat back. But I have never sat in one to see if it hits the back the same way. My back is toast from injuries and I was hoping for the old towns to be better. I knew that I didn’t want to go Hobie design and the price and now their warranty problems. The epdl seems nice but there is those prices again. Good luck with it.

You should come out to the Apalachicola Bay or Port St Joe Bay in FL sometime. We have been in choppy water which make the barge wake look like ripples. Full disclosure: we don't voluntarily go out in that water, but our kayak is 17' and has high sides so it can handle it pretty well.

@@MDLRFishing 🤣😂🤣. I understand! The rivers, creeks, and bayous in our area are similar to what you have in your videos. The bays can be anything from: smooth, light chip, moderate chop, and "oh my God what are we doing out here?" Sir, I think part of what you are getting used too, is simply getting used to a pedal kayak. I have a PDL 132 and have fished 10 miles round trip on some days. Of course, I excercise on my road bike 2 to 3 times a week. You just need to learn to pace yourself, weather you are pedal assiting on 5 or 3. Don't make it a race. Just fish like you used too. You will get you PDL sea legs soon and find a balance in all this. Tigh Lines! Keep Reeling!
