For me the hitachi framing nail gun is the best
@jonathanlombard88972 жыл бұрын
I have a hitachi n5008ac that has a huge leak at the valve bushing when resting. I replaced ALL the o-rings in the gun, including the two that seal the cylinder guide to the gun body. When that didn't fix the leak, I swapped out plastic and metal parts from a new/identical n5008ac metabo I had to buy, but I couldn't get the leak to stop. I slid the cylinder plate into the gun body to see if it was warped, but it fit snuggly. When I push the valve bushing plunger in and out, the air tone/sound changes but all the cylinder parts have new o-rings and there aren't any scratches. Is the body warped and I can't see it?

My piston/driver blade assembly was replaced, now you can hear it moving freely inside the cylinder if you turn the gun upside down and right side up. Feels weak and hollow to use and doesn’t drive the nail all the way. Is the replacement o-ring too small and not making a tight enough seal?

Thank you for the video it's a big help. I have a metabo and when I fire it makes a wierd air release sound and it sounds like something is bouncing around inside the gun. What could that be? Thanks again for the awesome video 😁

Thank you for the watch! We're glad these videos can be of service. Welp, I would first disassemble the nailer to see what the item is that's bouncing around in there is. Remove the head cap and the cylinder to inspect it. It could be the hard rubber bumper in the bottom of the body of the nailer, which can break apart...especially if the gun is low on oil and you live in a dry environment. It could simply be that the bumper has cracked. Either way, you'll need to disassemble it to identify the piece, then go from there. Thanks again for the comment!

I got one for ya.. two of our framing guns, an NR83AA and an NR83AA5, have an issue where they fire every other nail usually. The driver isn't retracting all the way to allow a nail to enter the chamber. It's almost as if it doesnt have enough air pressure to retract (compressor at 120 and other hitachis working fine). Ive replaced all cylinder o rings and check valve bands, brand new drivers and orings, cleaned out cylinder. If i try to rapid fire a few shots, it sounds as if its running out of air. When they do drive a nail, its driven as it should, but the retract phase sounds different, and i know the next nail wont shoot. I feel like some passageways may be partially clogged.

Thanks ! My sweet Hitachi 83 NR ( I think } started blowing air through the exhaust vent constantly. Any ideas ?
@MasterToolRepair3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Most likely the problem lies with one of the seals on the cylinder inside the main body of the gun. Typically, the cylinder seal (the wide rubber band-like seal) being damaged can cause this, or any number of seals on the cylinder. Also, check the head valve seals and o-rings. If there isn't s good seal between the top of the cylinder and the head valve (which is in the top cap of the nailer) you will get air leaking out of the head cap constantly. Many time, a good cleaning and re-lubricating of the o-rings will fix many problems with pneumatic nailers. Hope this helps get you started.

Awesome videos ! hey quick question, why would my hitachi framing nailer fire without the nose being depressed. Also what is the grease and o ring lube you use?
@MasterToolRepair3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! As for the grease and o-ring lube, you can use really any o-ring grease for pneumatic nailers, no matter what the brand. Pneumatic oil can be added a few drops at a time before you use the nailer and again, any brand will do (whether it be Senco, Bostitch, Hitachi, Husky, etc.). As for the problem with the nailer firing without you depressing the nose down to the firing surface, that's probably an issue with the trigger system. Most likely the trigger stem inside the main body of the trigger is stuck. I would simply remove all of the o-rings in the trigger stem and system, re-lube them, then re-install them. If you've never disassembled the nailer before, it may be a good idea to re-lube all of the o-rings in the nailer. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. I have a nr83a which is starting to bend the nails or jam. could my driver just be worn out ? Thanks again
@MasterToolRepair5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Janet and glad to help! Yes, one reason it's bending the nails when it fires could be due to a bent driver blade. I would remove the top cap and the piston/driver to confirm it's not bent. If it looks good, it's possible the nails aren't feeding into the nose area of the gun like they should. It could be that the magazine that holds the nails is misaligned with the nose, where it butts up against the nose. Make sure the nails are in the magazine properly (and that the correct nails are being used...I know it seems obvious but it's worth mentioning) and that the magazine isn't bent so that the nails feed into the nose without any obstruction. I hope this helps!

@MasterToolRepair5 жыл бұрын
Typically this problem is caused by a bad Cylinder Seal. The seal on top of the Cylinder is probably worn or damaged so it won't allow a good seal with the Head Valve. This part is #13 on the breakdown for this nailer, which you can view by clicking on the below link: mastertoolrepair.com/pneumatic-finish-nailer-parts-nt65ma-p-1335401.html Typically an o-ring kit will fix these issues; replacing all o-rings in the body of the nailer is a good idea if the tool is more than a few years old.

@MasterToolRepair6 жыл бұрын
Has the driver started to unscrew from the actual piston? Some of these piston/drivers had a tendency to unthread from the piston. Also, make sure there isn't an obstruction or the air deflector (#2) isn't bent down not allowing enough air to escape from the nailer.

Thanks for that< I have a question what will cause air to come through the tip? A lot of air!
@MasterToolRepair4 жыл бұрын
Glad to help! Typically this is caused by a damaged Cylinder Seal, which is the rubber seal around the cylinder inside the body of the nailer. I would remove the top Cap and the Cylinder to inspect all seals and o-rings, as well as the rubber bumper at the bottom of the nailer to confirm it's intact. Many times, however, it's just the main Cylinder Seal that's damaged which causes a lot of air to escape from the nose of the nailer.

Hi Gil, I just bought a well-used Hitachi NR-83A at a thrift shop that was being sold in untested condition. It is missing the pneumatic fitting on the end. I have a standard size pneumatic fitting, but it's too small. Is there an adapter that will allow me to use this smaller adapter or is there a larger pneumatic fitting that will fit correctly? Once it's working, the first thing is to test it to see if it works. I'm guessing it will need a rebuild, so your video was very helpful. I'm not a professional framer and would be using this for occasional work. Any and all advice would really be appreciated. Thanks very much, Tom
@MasterToolRepair4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Tom! The NR83A nailer has a 3/8" female NPT fitting where your plug would thread into. You could have a 1/4" (most common) or 3/8" (less common) quick connect fitting on your air hose, so it really just depends on the size of the quick connect fitting on the end of your air hose. Both the 1/4" and 3/8" male plugs are available at any hardware store or where nailers are sold, just make sure you get one with a 3/8" male NPT thread that will install into the nailer. It wouldn't hurt to install an o-ring kit in the nailer either, as this is almost always required if the nailer has been stored for any period of time or if you're not sure about the condition. I hope this helps.
@THOMMGB4 жыл бұрын
@@MasterToolRepair Thanks so much for your reply! Just to be clear on what I need: At the bottom of the aluminum handle of my NR-83A where the pneumatic hose would attach, there's a threaded hole. The diameter of this hole in the aluminum handle appears to be 5/8". What I suspect I need is some kind of reducer/adapter fitting that will make this 5/8" hole smaller so I can screw in a standard pneumatic quick connect fitting. The output end of this pneumatic fitting (which I already have) is 1/4" like you mentioned. I hope I am being clear on this and you know what I need. Thanks very much for your help and advice.
@MasterToolRepair4 жыл бұрын
@@THOMMGB Glad to help if I can! If it's an NR83A Hitachi nailer, the female thread in the handle will be 3/8" FPT. It'll measure 5/8" but it actually accepts a 3/8" male NPT plug. It can be confusing because when we say 3/8" MPT, that actually means the OUTSIDE diameter of the thread is 5/8". But, you subtract 1/4" from the O.D. to arrive at 3/8" MPT. So, as long as you find a 3/8" MPT male plug that should thread right into the nailer. Hope this helps!

I just replaced all orings and gaskets on an nr83aa3. There's now air leaking from the trigger when its half depressed, I've rechecked the valve, the ball, rings and plastic valve. They all look fine. Any ideas? I also used white lithium grease to lube everything, think I read somewhere to use that.
@MasterToolRepair3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment Samuel. It could be that one of the trigger valves or hard parts in the trigger are worn, which will cause the leak. It's difficult to say without diagnosing it myself, but that might be the case. @@MasterToolRepair Its funny because it was working fine then I changed some o rings in the cylinder and now its leaking. I hadn't done anything to the trigger at that stage. What causes air to pass through the plunger valve? it's only when half pressed so the oring on the valve must seal it?

How does the piston go back up...?
@stevescherer4954 Жыл бұрын
The narrator's description of the check valve seal at 4:15 is incorrect. When the piston is driven downward, air is blown out holes in the cylinder behind the check valve. This air pressurizes the return air chamber. When the cylinder returns upward, the cylinder top is sealed off from compressed air. Air in the return chamber pushes the piston back up.

Please address the range of pressure required by nailers, what it means, and why when setting a compressor within that range, why won’t the nailer cycle.
@MasterToolRepair5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! Most nailers operate within 90 to 100 PSI, that's pretty standard across the board. There are some European and Asian models that are designed for high pressures of 200 PSI or so, but these HP tools are the minority. Most brad, finish, roofing and framing nailers operate within the 90 to 100 PSI range, as well as pneumatic staplers. If you regulate your unit within this range and your nailer/stapler doesn't cycle, it's most likely due to defective seals in the nailer itself. Make sure the correct type of nails are being used. Confirm the driver blade isn't bent or warped. Make sure the the nailer is clean internally and that all o-rings and seals are lubricated well. Also, make sure the regulated pressure gauge is accurate and isn't reading the pressure inaccurately. I hope this helps!
@user-pf2hv8qw1s5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I will try this. The nailer is a hitachi framing nailer. A guy at home depot told me that often, and especially when your compressor gets old, the gauge pressure usually reads low. He suggested taking the pressure to the higher portion of the range and try it again. If this does not work then yes, I guess I will need to take the thing apart.

How do I take out the piston cylinder
@MasterToolRepair3 жыл бұрын
That can be tricky. You can try taking some pliers to it but you'll need to make sure you put a thick rag over the cylinder so you don't damage it. The easier and safer way to remove it, however, is to take a rubber mallet and smack the body of the nailer. Newton's Law will force the cylinder to pop out with a few good smacks. Hope this helps!

@@ivanmartinez-ny6jn Thanks Ivan. If it leaks constantly from the head cap, you probably need to remove the cap and inspect the head valve o-rings and seals. Most likely there is some debris and build-up in the head which is now allowing the valve to move freely. The o-rings could also be dry-rotted or damaged. Next, check the seal on the very top of the cylinder, which is the seal that butts up against the bottom of the head valve. If the seal is damaged, it won't have good contact against the head valve and the nailer will constantly leak. I hope this helps to start!
