As Hitler was preparing for full-scale invasion of Scandinavia, all eyes turned northward. U-Boat attacks increased in frequency, and in Scapa Flow, the first British casualties were claimed during a German air raid. As the New Year began, the British people faced the introduction of rationing, adding to the tensions and uncertainty of the time.

There was an amusing episode when as a result of the Soviet invasion of Finland Sweden transferred crown jewels and state bullion to Norway and when Germany invaded Norway it was captured and Germany returned it to Sweden but obviously in return for favours, iron ore ball bearings, etc

There are so many hidden stories about this concocted conflict by the 1918 allied conglomerate and their banks , who made sure the revenge crazed Nazi powergrab succeeded. To facilitate a war out of which some emerged not unsatisfied. A war declared to be about Poland which after 5 years and millions of deaths was delivered to another tyrant . Nothing was done to keep the Nazis the loony fringe minority like they operated in most nations , the U.K. included. With the 'right' financial support that could've happened everywhere. Some wouldn't want to change this bloody history even if they could. D-Day didn't come for free ......all liberated nations were presented with a hefty bill ; the U.K managed to finally pay off in 2006. In effect partly financing the U.S. post '45 'American Dream' while the rest of the world was chewing on a toothpick holding up its trousers. To this day Germany remains an Uncle Sam vassal state , ordered to send again tanks in the direction of Moscow. With "God's Blessings" not to forget .....

@@DaveSCameronThe Swedish never gave up their Jews. They actually helped quite a few of them eacape Norway when the Nazis took over their country. Near the end of the war it was a Swede making deals with Himler in exchange for Jews. Himler aent a trainload out as a gesture of goodwill. He then asked for 2000 trucks in exchange for an entire concentration camp. Which never happened and all of it done behind Hitlers back. It doesn't seem like Himler held a deep rooted hatred for the Jews like Hitler amd most of the Nazi leadership did sans Goering. He was a digusting pig and was definitely the worst of the Nazis after Heideich but he seemed to view them as a commodity.

Interesting and informative. Excellent photography job making it easier for viewers to better understand what the orator was describing. Historians did a very good job presenting actual facts from fiction. Class A research project!!! Orator presented the documentary very good job presenting the documentary. Special thanks to the British women who replaced the soldiers in the factories/farms/transportation services/& the likes. Keeping the country in a regular/normal operating capacity. With the German U boat menace. The gov't did well with food rations along with encouraging 'Victory gardens'. Once again necessity is the mother of invention.

Seeing all this old black and white film colorized and remastered is absolutely breathtaking. I remember seeing most of this film footage as a kid in gritty old documentaries, the low quality gave it a certain "distant" and murky vibe that felt like it was on the verge of being lost to history. This remastered footage is the closest we get to time travel.

I am seventy born in 1953 eight years after the second world war. Every adult you knew was invlovedin the war. The second world war and the subsequent withdrawl from empire cast a long shadow over our generation that lasted to the early eighties. This is a very different country now. One I am very glad I did NOT grow up in. I know I am not alone in thinking this way.

A zatem NA POCZĄTKU BYŁO SŁOWO I ONO ROZPROSZYŁO CIEMNOŚCI. A oto opis potęgi Mojego słowa: Moje słowo jest początkiem i końcem, chlebem i karabinem, sługą i królem, kobietą i mężczyzną, dziwką i mędrcem, pokojem i wojną, biedą i bogactwem, szpetotą i pięknem, śmiercią i życiem. JEST PEŁNIĄ. MOJE SŁOWO JEST PEŁNIĄ. JA nie potrzebuję miecza, potężnych armat, doborowej armii. JA sama jestem mieczem, potężną armatą i doborową armią. Marzena Manista przyszła cesarzowa Polski i królowa narodu żydowskiego

Hitler's biggest mistake was that he chose Italy for himself because it was only Hitler's problem.. and the second mistake was the war with Russia because it is vast and it was very difficult to deliver ammunition and if America had not entered the war, Hitler would have conquered 100% of the world. was doing

Hitler's biggest mistake was to not make a more serious attempt at his art career, instead of all the mayhem and utterly unnecessary destruction upon the human race he finally decided to indulge in. Guess all the red on all the banners wasn't enough for him, so the blood from all the bodies had to compensate. The saddest aspect of humanity is that despite all these countless pathetic and self-righteous small-man-syndrome inflicted wankers who have been leaders of various countries, we still manage to let them slip through the net and once we realise and come to terms with our own naivity, it's too late. It is blatantly obvious that humanity as a whole, an entity, actually thrives from its perpetual masochistic tendencies. Hahaha, this tragicomical roundabout created by us humanimals with eyes wide shut has an entertainment value beyond cosmical proportions.👻❤

It was felt he was standing in for Hitler, and though we think it was fair now, few servicemen were aware of his deep complicity in the crimes. An MP today would do his duty. Things were a bit different back then. Not an excuse. Just how it was.

As a German I might say that Goring was firstly a criminal who used the Nazis as implement for his personal intent. So he seems distant to other Nazis with notorious fanatic background. Thus irrational objectives of war hindered him from enjoying his prey and stolen art.

There was a book i read called Colditz. It was a maximum prison in Germany during WWII that was used as a POW camp specifally used to in7prison POWs who kept trying to escape regular POW camps. It told how a group of British soldiers arrived at Colditz and being bramd new the British group all were placed to a big cell there. After a while theu heard one of those locked doors in the room was attemoting to open. Thinking they were the guards they waited for them to open the door and come into the room. Only it wssnt the guards but rather 3 or 4 Polish POWs who covertly made their way to the British room using hand made door lock keys. They knew they coukd get caught but said ef it and came to meet the new soldiers. Not only that but the Poles brought them gifts like alcohal, cigs, coffee etc. The Poles gqve these things to them simply to welcome them. So when ever i hear and think of the Polish people i think of them as a courageous and honorable people. I ❤ Poland and its awesome people.

A molotov cocktail can take out a tank. It sets everything on fire. Fire can get to the tankers and the engine because of the liquid. Kill the crew or the engine and the tank is effectively destroyed.

Misleading title..."invasion of Scandinavia" but all i see is Russo phobia. The USSR for all the short memoried macdonald's eaters was the last of 12 european nations to sign a NON AGRESSION PACT (not an agreement of co cooerstion). Before the Soviets did this, Great Britain (at that time, now england-stan was a warm supporter of economic agreements with Germany and even signed a naval agreement in 1938 enabling the conditions laid down by the Versailles treaty of 1918 to be abolished giving the right to the German navy to expand. Also when Czechosllovakia was given on a plate to Hitler in 1938 who were the signatories to this agreement in Munich ? Great Britain, France and Italy. The Soviet Union just like Russia today was the voice in the wilderness because it was cut off from the west, and not listened too. So Russia's reaction then with the Rippendrop Molotov pact was an act of pure necessity to delay the coming storm.

For the West, the Soviets or the Nazis, both had the same meaning. The USSR, which declared the victory of socialism in the world by any means, was no less dangerous for the West than Nazi Germany.

@@qorxmazveyselov5163 Ok then, why was the "west" fighting together with the USSR and sending materials ? Or maybe they were actually worried that they might loose the war and get their asses kicked by the germans. So for millions in the west, and those who were in camps accros europe IT WAS NOT THE SAME. I see the revisionists in history have done a good job. No my friend, by now had it not been for the 27,432,000 Soviet deaths, neither we or our "democracies" would have survived. Thank God that the Russians and the allies prevailed.
