In this special edition of Hits the Spot, we traveled to the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago to catch up with NewJeans backstage before their debut U.S. performance.
NewJeans burst onto the K-pop scene in summer 2022 with their debut single, “Attention.” Less than one year later, NewJeans broke the Guinness World Record for fastest K-pop group to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
We sat down with MINJI, HANNI, DANIELLE, HAERIN, and HYEIN to cover everything from DANIELLE’s favorite surfing spot to the song HANNI loves to play on ukulele and which Harry Potter house each member would reside. Ten points if you can guess who’s in Slytherin!

I'm so glad they had a good and respectful interviewer... us kpop fans know how a lot of American interviewers can be so I'm so glad that our girls didn't have to go through that. Thank you spotty so much and bunnies love you forever💜💜💜💜💜

Danielle is so well-spoken and lovely! I wouldn’t really consider myself a New Jeans fan but I am continually impressed with her charisma and leadership whenever a video of the group comes up. For all of the mistreatment she’s gotten from the fanbase, she does so much for the group and should be appreciated more.

if KPOP idols and agencies want to be recognized globally, they should add English Speaking as part of idol training. NewJeans music is the best right now in KPOP but them knowing how to speak English is a big plus.

Minji def Ravenclaw or Slytherin given her organizing and motherly doting. The visuals of the group should be Slytherin cuz that’s where all the fashionistas are. They are all def Gryffindor for being Star performers. And anyone who self-proclaims Hufflepuff can be a Hufflepuff since they welcome all.

I am kind of confused as to why she said Slytherin. I do not know much about Harry Potter, but isn't Slytherin just evil people? Why would she call Haerin evil?

@@user-ky2rw6eb8x in the books they were evil. But generally Syltherin is the house of leaders and charismatic famous people. Hufflepuff is the house of the humble (dumb followers) which pairs with Gryffindor (dumb leaders). This is similar to Ravenclaw (smart followers) and Slytherin (smart leaders)

Newjeans are just such a breathe of fresh air in the kpop scene. There's not much groups these days that could actually speak fluent english while doing interviews so it's really impressive to see how well these girls handle ut like pros!! They'll have bright future for sure ❤

newjeans makes the standard of kpop is very high now.the concept very unique,different and interesting,all the songs is hits,all member can sing and dances very well,all member is visual,all member can understand and speak english. its hard for this generation to compete with them.this is momentum for level up kpop generation.

The interviewer did a fantastic job, she kept the atmosphere as most natural as it can be, and I can notice that she was well prepared for the questions and contents. The interaction was natural tho. One more point, I'm impressed with Haerin and Hyein's English. ^^ Well done our girls

3 of members were born and raised in Korea, it would be a little nervous and somehow anxious, ofc it's a casual conversation but still an interview in foreign language, but you guys all did so great. The host lady knows that too, she is so nice and elevates the mood so good, i appreciate for that as Bunnies😊

애들이 영어공부를 많이 했구나 (원어민 둘을 빼더라도). 해린/혜인/민지 다 회화가 저 정도면 상당한데... 빠른 애들 기준으로 최소 3달 정도 거주하고 학교다닌 수준. 보통으로 치면 한 반년에서 1년? 하니/다니가 평소에도 영어를 꽤 많이 쓰고 애들이 어려서 그런지도 모르겠지만 어쨌든 놀라움.

That was a great interview, I liked how she went around to everyone to give them a chance to answer questions, and a question was specific to their likes. Good interview, and I'm amazed how well Haerin and Hyein are at speaking English now.
