How do you study the bible? I want to start doing that but I don't know how.

I have been reading for a while now, but early on a lot of it stemmed from listening in church and wanting to learn more afterwards. Now I use it in regards to feelings I am having in my daily life, and I use it to find ways that God's people have handled it and how God is instructing us to go about it. This gives me the best chance to apply them in my life instead of just retaining the information.
