The California Beekeeper

Күн бұрын

Ok ya’ll, we have a lot going on in this video so be sure to watch it through the end!
The video kicks off with our apprentice who is a Veteran that we partnered up with from the Hives for Heroes Program. This is a special program to us as Kelly comes from a military family. The non-profit program connects Veterans with Beekeepers and provides them with a hobby in an effort to relieve stressors they may be experiencing and improve their mental health. The program also offers a free online college beekeeping course to participants.
Commercial Beekeeper and Queen Breeder, Jose Uribe, takes Steve along with him up to our Lassen Park yard where they discover that a bear has once again breached the electric fence. After unloading all of the equipment, Jose makes a walk away split and re-queens some hives.
On this day Jose has forgotten to bring candy for the California Mini Cages to do a proper queen introduction so in a pinch he uses pollen patty substitute and wax paper in the entrance.
The pair then heads over to the local Tractor Supply and Ace Hardware in order to purchase new fencing supplies.
This video was actually shot in July but we are behind on editing all of our content. Thanks for hanging in with us and being patient!
If you placed a queen order with us this year… thank you! We are passionate about what we do and are working to make a big difference in the industry.
If you are new to our channel, welcome! We are a small family owned and operated commercial apiary located in Northern California. We've been commercial beekeeping for the past 12 years, but branched off and opened Uribe Honey Bees in January of 2019, and launched our KZfaq channel in April of 2020. We specialize in queen breeding, pollination services, hive management and brokering.
Thank you for watching and supporting us! We love you guys!

Our diesel is $3.00 a gallon. Putting the wire on the ground where he has to step on it will ground him. With the drought grounding is very difficult. I understand that the feel of the wire under their feet deterred them also.

@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper I'm in Centralia, WA. Originally I'm from Sac. Up here it depends on the year of course. In 2018 I had 20 hives. Was planning on splitting all of them in the spring. Then we had one hella winter. 3 late snow storms back to back. I lost all of my hives. Now I'm working on getting my numbers back up. Last year I was using the in hive feeders because the yellow jackets were annihilating my hives to get to the feed. Then winter came and I thought I had pulled all of my in hive feeders. Nope, solid bricks of sugar ice and three dead hives. Uhg. So no more in hives. I got the yellow jackets beat down. Caught three queens and torched about ten others. Plus we torched four bald face hives. That about did it for the suckers. 😆 so now I'm back to open feeding and I'm not seeing alot of robbing, which is nice. Now if I can just not lose any over the winter that would be great.

@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper the ones that were here and already established hung in there. But I've converted some of my old supers into Vivaldi boxes and allows the air to ventilate the hive without exposing them to the random baldface or yellow jacket.
