This is nothing new in California. I lived in South Sacramento for thirty years and watched neighborhoods deteriorate, stores shoplifted into bankruptcy. The fall of California has been coming for a long time.

Bullshit; this _is_ new in California. I've lived here for 60 years and there was never this level of crap going on at this scale & scope until this putz got elected. Every...damned...city... Businesses large & small closing up & leaving the shop, whole sections of San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles (and even Hollywood!) are now deserted ghost towns, thanks to the crime & the high cost of doing business. This is _entirely_ all on Newsom.

Same, I lived off Greenback and 80 since 1965. I had to leave as soon as possible and would have lost everything I own if I didn't. It will take many years/if ever to correct what newsome did to the state. The people that voted for him got what they asked for. He has destroyed one of the most beautiful places in the Country.

Walmart opened in Oakland, CA near Hegenberger. It closed and said there was too much stealing. It is till vacant. The In' Out Burger across the side street closed also and said it was because of crime. The convenience store nearby on Hegenberger was recently mob robbed. The Police didn't arrive for 9 hours.

There are a couple of generations of people now who were held to lower behavioral standards. If the law is no longer enforced and people are not going to jail, there are no *consequences* for breaking the law, and this is exactly what happens.

@@glenstribling6123 This is one of the destructive consequences of the rapidly declining numbers of two-parent households. When one of the parents (usually the father) is not in the home, it is *much less* likely that children can develop under a stable, proper upbringing. Children need to learn discipline in the home and be shown the social concepts of personal boundaries and lawful behavior.

Once the lockers start sprouting up all over the store, you know they are in a death spiral. Paying customers don't have time for that, and as they go away to Amazon or whatever, pretty soon all that's left is the shoplifters, who don't have much money to spend or they wouldn't be shoplifting, and then the store closes.

I will not be visiting LA any time soon, I usually spend 2 or 3 days there on the way to Vegas and we've been coming from Australia since the early 2000's. Last time we stayed at the Beverly Sofitel, it did not feel safe walking the streets especially at night and in 2 days I witnessed (it happened as I was sitting out the front of the store) the Louis Vuitton store at the out lets robbed by a gang of 5 guys. At the convenience store near the hotel I saw 3 incidents, 1 violent of people shoplifting. The uber driver warned us not to go to San Fran, not sure what you guys are thinking over there but it's not the same city I first came to some 20 years ago and it's a shame.

Walmart is charging so much prices because so many people are stealing and we're not allowed to prosecute them. I was eyewitness to a guy teaching his family to walk out with a whole basket full of groceries groceries. The store employee tried to stop him and he just mailed off at her and kept going. I'm tired of us Californians paying the price for nuisance decisions of letting everybody off the hook for stealing line and even worse stuff he just lets them off the hook😢

Ugh, I RARELY shop at Walmart because ALL the make up and razors are locked and you have to stand there and wait for 15minutes, then go pay at a seperate area and then finish paying/shopping in a different area.

That's the result of living in a democrat controlled area. I live in a relatively conservative area and only 20 items or so are locked up, razors isn't one off them. It's mostly hair care products and cologne/perfume.

West Covina is a middle-class suburb. The closing has nothing to do with thefts. Walmart stores have closed before to break a campaign by its employees wanted to unionize. Maybe that's the reason.

The naked samaritans-Pete Sferra of San Jose and Lloyd Fishback of San Francisco-were letting it all hang out on a July 2 stroll through the neighborhood when they spotted a “crazy kind of pirate guy” threatening a man with a blowtorch. A video from the scene shows an onlooker snag the blowtorch just before the attacker starts to punch the tourist.
