I want to share these very practical fighting strategies with kickings. This lesson is given by Moon Jang-kyu (Shokei Matsui) from Kyokushin.

Unlike most instructors, not only could he tell you what to do, he demonstrated it in tournament fighting too. Absolutely one of the best ever.

Sosai Mas Oyama once said: "Karate and Taekwondo should not be enemies, instead they should be embraced by each other and learn from each other in order to evolve together." That's why I as a Kyokushin practitioner am very impressed to see that you as a Taekwondo master are willing to show people these videos as a way to let Taekwondo practitioners have something new to incorporate to their training and enhance their style with. Osu !

I agree, many parts of Taekwondo applications would be similiar to Karate's Bunkai and Kumite. We should learn from each other and cooperate.

Taekwondo came from Shotokan and blended with Taekyon.

@@tombslasher so did kyokushin. We cannot talk about kyokushin without disgussing it's Korean and Chinese influences as well as shotokan and goju ryu karate that it is mainly based on.

I’m doing the same with Muay Thai and Shotokan

@@tombslasher It's less like blended with Taekkyon and more like took aesthetic inspiration. Taekkyon isn't a practical martial art, at least not now, and you would be hard pressed to find any significant number of practioners today, after the modern revival, let alone 70 odd years ago around the founding of TKD by general Choi. It's more like entirely Shotokan Karate but modified to look noticibly different, and to focus on kicks, so the martial arts would be considered separate. That being said TKD has developed a bunch of kicks, especially high kicks and spinning or jumping kick's, that don't really exist anywhere else. The axe kick is one of them, and is pure TKD (originally developed for breaking demonstrations among other things).

I practice in a shotokan dojo but Iam also trying to add to my karate any interesting technic from any martial art and Matsui shokei is one of my favorit teachers. To all karateka and martial artist I say Osu. Thanks for the video.

I dislike because as most empty hand fighting style most practitioner do not even crouch or wave from roundhouse ,turning back kick aiming for the high. no matter how fast a kicker if a an opponent is also fast in ducking to catch the standing leg or bump his body into the stretched leg to tumble the kicker.

I have been playing karate for many years. This master’s kicks are a piece of art. I have never seen such beautiful, symmetrical and easy flowing kicks and body movements. What is the Master’s name ??

I’d love we had something like this in taekwondo, a fuller contact combat. But well, it was easier doing this stuff in the 90’s than nowadays. Today we only have point sparring, 0 contact. And in TF tkd Olympic combat is lame, nothing like in the 90’s. Yes I know, I’m not from that time but you can’t deny it was much better the , today tkd and karate is more of a day care than a serious martial art.
