In this video I show how I disassemble the rifle for regular cleaning. I usually clean the gas system after every range trip.
No actual cleaning is shown because everyone can use their own method.

A really good demonstration on stripping of the 417, for cleaning and the same applies to the 416, 5,56 model. One of the better ones I have seen. Thanks for the demonstration.

Thanks, good video. It's simpler than I thought. Just like a "normal" AR15 with a few improvements. The gas piston is simple, too, hardly adds any complexity at all, really.

Boss Guido Thank you so much for all the info. I really appreciate when people with experience chime in. I am still fairly new to shooting so I try to soak in as much info as possible, provided that it makes sense (and yours does). Your comments are not offensive and are more than welcome. Thank you again for responding and for watching my vids. And thank you for your service.

TheSpaniard91100 The bullet button was already on the rifle when we got it. Not sure what kind it is. I am in Los Angeles, California. The Leupold scopes are great. I like them, but I will also be looking at Vortex scopes.

Hi, great video and great looking weapon, curious though, I find it strange HK don't put all the tools in the rifle to fully strip it? that tool in the stock, has the small end for the pins but it looks like the other end of the 'L' end is a hex key, have you tried that in the handguard bolts? I mean no disrespect

Hey MV, I just bought the mr762a1. love it! Do you clean the piston rod? first time cleaning so i dont want to make any mistakes. Thanks
@MosinVirus
@MosinVirus 10 жыл бұрын
I usually wipe down the piston rod, and lightly oil the area with the spring. The closer to the gas piston the drier it should be. A simple wipe down with a dry rag will do, but consult your manual to be sure.

Are the diameters of the takedown and pivot pins the same as on an LR-308 or AR-10? Also, would standard LR-308 charging handles work with this? Thanks

Oh btw Mosin and sorry for commenting so much (I hardly come online got a cold so stuck in bed and bored) But don't' clean the gun so much. You know what wears out guns and barrels etc? Not shooting but cleaning. Ive shot near 10k out of my SCAR 16s, Ak's or other piston guns and never clean em. So unless you use corrosive ammo which is very rare. You really shouldn't clean it after ever use you will do more damage than good. Like I said our family owns a quite large gun shop and range etc. Even in my day job as a Fed Leo or in the military we never cleaned after every trip to the range tho when I was on deployment in the sandbox aka Iraq then yes but its because of the sand. You don't shoot in the desert do you? Then again if not don't clean it so much as like car brakes you have to allow the barrel etc to break in and by cleaning it so much you are not seasoning the gun so to speak or not letting it break in.

I know this is an old video but I’m wondering why you say not to lubricate the gas piston on gas cylinder? It says in the operators manual that these parts must be lubricated.

Thanks for the video. How do you clean your gas piston? Mine always seems to get some pretty tough carbon on the very end where it goes into the gas chamber. I think yours had some too, maybe I'm just being particular.
@MosinVirus
@MosinVirus 9 жыл бұрын
I usually use hoppe's elite bore gel, basically my choice of solvent, and cover the tip in it. Then I use a nylon brush or gently use a bronze bristle brush to get the carbon coat off. You shouldn't try to get it completely bright again, as you will likely start to get the coating off. The reason I use that solvent is that it doesn't have a lubricant in it. So when I wipe it off, the part is dry. You don't want to lube it because it will gunk up. After shooting the rifle more and more, the gas piston will get darker and darker, but that is not an issue. I don't think you have to worry about it, just get the crud off.
@elitedark6419
@elitedark6419 9 жыл бұрын
Ok great, I had been using hoppes9 and lightly going over it with a bronze bristle brush then drying as well. Thanks. I'll try out the elite bore gel.
@MosinVirus
@MosinVirus 9 жыл бұрын
Elite Dark no problem. The elite bore gel also comes off really well from all the brushes I use by simply rinsing them under running water. Again probably due to lack of lubricants

Hi there cool video, I have a little question, have you ever removed the bolt catch/release from this rifle? I'm having a hard time removing the clamping sleeve for it and i'm afraid to cause damage, any tips?
@MosinVirus
@MosinVirus 10 жыл бұрын
I have never removed the bolt catch/release lever. I assume the clamping sleeve is the pin that holds it in place? There are special punches for those bolt catch/release pins for ARs. I personally never used one, but it appears they make it easier. www.brownells.com/aspx/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=26484

Just a note Magpul's bad levers do not work well with Sigs and Hk's that's if you're doing that. If not I don't see why you would need to remove that. And yes like Moisn said a good metal punch set is all you need but their not any different that any punch set so a hardware store is fine. There are no such things as gun punches lol.

Btw some little tips for the MR 556 and 762. Dump the butt stock its crap the friction fit wears out with use. I would get a Magpul stock. And for those who don't want the stupid disassemble tool pins you can switch em out to std pins. Hk just did em for accuracy so you won't have that springy push to the upper and lower but then you won't have to worry about the dumb tool. This gun breaks down like anyother AR just the bolt is a bit easier to clean. Tho Ive shot over 5K rounds thru my 762 and never cleaned it yet. Oh btw never ever put any sort of lube on any part of the piston or piston cup on any piston type gun. Just added advice some info from a 30yr collector/shooter my collection runs in the 400+ range. And I own just about every Hk rifle and pistol made and just about every major .308 rifle the MR762 is a great shooter like all Hk firearms fit and finish is the best in the industry. I'm FED LEO and also part owner of my family's gun shop with indoor range and many of my family either works or owns company's in the gun industry. So we know a bit about guns lol! ;) Stay safe everyone. No offense to the channel owner intended.

Yes, but it is not the same rifle anymore (had to go featureless). We havent put more than 1000 rounds through it and it still looks brand new. I never gauged accuracy in terms of grouping but it hits whatever you point it at from 600 yards away (longest distance we got at the local range)

Hi, in California, which dealer can you buy HR MR762? I am looking to buy one. Thanks.
@MosinVirus
@MosinVirus 10 жыл бұрын
These are CA legal, so most dealers will have them. Usually they don't get too many because the rifles are pricey, but you should call your local gun stores and ask if they have one. Sometimes you will be able to get on a waiting list if your local gun shop has them on order.

MosinVirus Thanks MosinVirus for confirming there are CA legal version of MR762. I did not know that because this model is rarely seen at gun store. This is my dream AR10. I will contact local AR store and see what they can do to order. HK has a new LRP package of this MR762 on their site. That gun case is nice.

Jerry Yu The CA version simply has a bullet button and 10 round magazine. I don't think there are any other differences between the Non-CA and CA versions. LRPs have been around too. Not sure where you are located, but in Los Angeles I have seen them in a few stores I visit regularly.
