I hate bad dyno shops, I guarantee you that a better shop will change everything, they will work with you to see where you can gain or what’s holding you back. That shop just seems like a “hurry up and leave” type place that wants money and appointments rather than loyal customers and a following/group atmosphere. If I were you I’d try to make friends with a local speed shop, get introduced, maybe send them lunch on a random day to show your appreciation and soon you will be part of the group. Maybe even locate a KZfaq channel that films near you that could do a joint video with you about your Highlander. I have a 2012 v6 awd limited and want more power, but I don’t really NEED it 😂

It wasn't a good experience at all. I might do a dyno run next year or something, but for now I don't have anything planned 😁. I ordered a hood scoop designed for the Highlander, and I'm gonna turn it functional so it can cool the engine bay. A local KZfaqr called Shooting Cars actually reviewed my Highlander. The review will be out in about 3 weeks!

Wow, dude that sucks!!! Im sorry to hear that shop didn't show you any love! I always appreciate when a business doesn't treat me right though because I learn to never go back there and I always inform everyone I know to stay away ftom those kinds of places!!! As far as hp 305 aint bad at all. I was hoping with all that you invested you would get more bang for your buck but as they say horespower cost money so how fast do you wanna go!?!

Yup, it was unexpected, and I didn't want to let the community down with inaccurate results. Coming soon though, I'm getting some numbers and runs at the drag strip. Best I run was 5.33 seconds to 60mph and 13.84 seconds in 1/4 mile in the street, so I'm curious to see what it will run at the track.

305 whp on AWD? That’s impressive 🔥🔥 I think little more rpm will help 6500 rpm is way to low

The thing is, it probably was making even more. I don't think this guy calibrated the dyno properly.
@jrvapor

Hey Mez how would you increase the rpm, without any negative side effects?
@630Cars
@630Cars Жыл бұрын
You can raise the RPM through a tuner like R9K Tuned or VF Tuner. I have the VF tuner software that can do it, but still haven't found where that function is.

@@jrvapor my English is not good. it depends on the engine itself in this case the 2GR-FE can handle 7000 + rpm without any problems just the regular Maintenance

I would never Dyno it. Just take it to the strip and smoke a Supra. 😁 . Nice upgrades.

Looks like a quaint little dyno shop. sorry you had a not good experience. I've been to one like that too, even smaller, and with no fans. Recipe for disaster on boosted cars, not having enough cool air is a constant struggle . 305 not bad. you're where my 2.3t Mazda was at when it was stage 2 + tuned. idk where you're going to but if u want the names of some worthwhile shops on the east coast in the USA, let me know , I can easily recommend a couple.

Thanks for tuning in man! I'm in Illinois, so that's far away lol, but I'm currently fine tuning this build. My next and probably final goal for now is to install an air to water intercooler to help with the temps.

@@630Cars in school they taught us going from air to liquid cooled is not nearly the efficiency gain or power adder that you looking for. I was a gear head b4 even going to school for HVAC/R, but like u i was just a hobbyist. And i know with a certain amount of confidence you'll net about another 20% over your total added hp gained presently. Here's a rough conversion for u that u may already know. 10hp added per 1 pound boost. Roughly that's in practice though and not considering anything else . Max 30% . Anything higher you're entering Wizardry i don't know enough about. Go to alternate fuel. You'll get the biggest baddest bang from your parts and your tune by going with a fuel like methanol/ethanol. Pump gas sucks. Ethanol or alcohol based fuel is going to give you the pressure and temp drops you need to push the Highlander. Does your Highlander have the Toyota dual fuel injector setup already? Either that or do a 50-100 shot of nitrous oxide or something equal to that. You'll save a ton of money doing that and get better results imo.
@630Cars
@630Cars Жыл бұрын
I did some research on water to air intercooled setups, and you're correct- the gains aren't as significant as I thought. Methanol is fantastic for its cooling effect and power gains, but I'm not sure I want to deal with it on a daily driven car haha. I'm going to contact my tuner and see if he can tune for ethanol; I don't mind running ethanol on a daily.

One more thing. That supercharger seems tiny, even for a centrifugal model. I bet when you get better dyno runs, you’ll see massive gains in the lower and mid range compared to the peak, that could be why you were disappointed with the results from the dyno. The dyno could be all screwed up and badly calibrated. I’d be interested to know what the AUDI TT made after you, maybe they were disappointed as well, which again makes the dyno seem faulty. Is it possible to get a larger compressor for the HKS?
@630Cars

Yes, there's a HKS GTS8550. I believe it will fit if you make an adapter plate.

Man that sucks you didn’t get a print out. Sorry it was a disappointing experience for you! 305 at the wheel ain’t bad! It was probably 220 at the wheel bone stock. I would be more interested in the whole power curve. Peak horsepower is just one part of the story. It doesn’t say much about how the vehicle feels as you accelerate through the rpm range

He said he would e-mail the print out, but I doubt it. Either way, don't want to deal with the guy anymore after this incident.

I have a stock 2018 Highlander XLT. The car runs fine except overall its a dog. It feels like there is a chip that is holding the engine back, I constantly find myself flooring the accelerator, that there seems to be a "gap" when I push the accelerator slightly, to where I aggressively have to push to get it going. Any suggestions on what I can do that are inexpensive modifications or upgrades to make this car run better, have better performance? Any suggestions would be great.
@630Cars
@630Cars Жыл бұрын
I believe that's the lazy Toyota transmission programming. In order to get this car to move, you gotta press hard on the acceleration pedal. As for things that help, pedal commander help a bit: www.amazon.com/Throttle-Response-Controller-Accelerator-9F-298/dp/B0BTHS7RV4/ref=asc_df_B0BTHS7RV4/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=652427587918&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15949947664780785471&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9021543&hvtargid=pla-2008054146651&gclid=CjwKCAjwg-GjBhBnEiwAMUvNW_QkSAO-3BDsK5WjCiS7QYcOMb4jPWC-maVCftVwMZFY9KYR02indBoCkUUQAvD_BwE&th=1

Since the new tundra is our highlander v6 turbo charged i was just thinking about buying tundra parts and installing them over aftermarket. Tundras have a crap load of hp and torqe with the twin turbo setup i hear?
@630Cars
@630Cars Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. The Highlander shares the same 2GR-FKS engine as the Toyota Camry, and there's a decent aftermarket for that. Myself, I have a cold air intake from a Toyota Camry with the same engine.

@630Cars hmmm yes I see the code is different, still if I'm gonna ever mess with mine I'd get the twin turbo tundra engine to drop in. I'm a cnc machinist so I have no issues designing n making mounts and adapters....they say it has 389 hp? Still only 94hp more then mine. Mine just broke in at 15k it feels like? Or it's the mobile 1 I switched too? Haha. Joking.... I was wondering how much the just a tune offered you? I know from playing with Hondas there is alot of hidden power in the ecu but that was 1995. So I don't know how much better drivability I could get out of a tune for a new car?

I believe D3 Performance: d3performance.net/index.php/product-category/products/ and VF Tuner offers a tune for these: vftuner.com/collections/vf/products/vforest-tuner-software-flash-cable VF Tuner advertises up to 25whp and 20wtq on 93 octane fuel!

@@630Cars hmm I'm not having much luck finding any 2GR FE superchargers. Do you have any other sources? The only one I found was a 2016 Tacoma supercharger but I don't believe the V6 on that uses port injection. What about tuning? I can't find anything for Highlanders on R9K or D3.

Sorry, I don't have any other sources. I would keep looking on Ebay. Alternatively there's a TRD supercharger that came with the TRD Toyota Aurion with the 2GR-FE. That one is also hard to come by unfortunately.
