This is definitely a case where less would have been more in terms of writing. All we needed were a few vague, newspaper headlines, shorter, less detailed notes from management, telling people not to complain, or talk to the media and the letter in the attic. I think you could indeed have dropped down into the hole containing the headstone. At 56:58 there’s definitely something squarish visible underneath the floor toward the doorway. Dropping into the hole and squatting should allow one to see something “interesting”. I have the feeling there are things you didn’t see, spooky stuff you didn’t get around to triggering. Still, I can’t help but agree that burning the place down was the right move. Oh, I don’t think it takes place in England despite the newspapers and mention of the Queen (unless it takes place in an alternate universe), rather somewhere in Eastern Europe. The phone ring was wrong, the Cyrillic lettering on the boxes in the chemical cupboard, the headstone and graves, and the fact that it was the site of a Nazi function in the past points more to Europe.

2:38 Prime example of miscommunication where the information that was intended to be communicated failed to do so mainly because of the speaker not placing themselves in their audience's shoes. It is of human nature to make assumptions so quickly, and without thinking the matter through for a brief moment, that often it occurs without being conscious of the assumptions. In this particular case, the caller knows what they mean when using the terms left and right, and makes the quick assumption, likely because it is so incredibly obvious to them which direction left and right is, and so they just assume their audience will know the same thing without being conscious of making that assumption, but because that assumption that their audience would know which way left and right were, they have no need to analyze their words, so they don't, and they fail to realize that left and right can change which directions those terms represent, and further that they might mean something different to their audience because their audience would be facing a different direction than themselves. Is the caller referencing left and right based upon the direction facing when facing the front entrance of the hotel, while facing the front desk as a guest, or perhaps facing the front desk as an employee because you are starting your role as an employee, off-season caretaker to be exact, or maybe left and right are defined by the direction you would be facing when answering the phone? This ambiguousness could be avoided by using cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west). "The pool is located on the east side of the building, while the ballroom is on the west." That statement conveys understandable information much more so than the words they had chosen to use: "On the left side of the building, you will find the Brown Room, which is the ballroom of our fine establishment . . . on the right side, you will find our classic pool, in the middle you will find our Grand Staircase, and Balcony Overlook . . ." What information does that tell me? Well I know that the ballroom is called The Brown Room, and that its location is opposite that of their classic pool, and that their staircase, and balcony overlook is located in the middle of those two areas, but it doesn't provide me with any information regarding the directions in which each of these areas are located. Further, if you had any doubt regarding your audience's ability to determine which direction north is, then you could also eliminate the ambiguity by adding one small clause at the beginning of what they had said verbatim. That clause being: "While facing the front desk as a guest would, then . . . ", which would be even more precise than using cardinal directions, for what if your audience is not capable of determining which direction north is? This way, the caller would inform their audience of how to orient themselves, that is which direction they need to face, in order to know what the caller means with the terms "left" and "right".
