Good video!!!! As a kid growing up in the 1960s-1970s, built numerous ship models. Had a fleet of various types/scales that could take on any navy of the world mainly from Monogram and Revell. When got back into modelling during the 1990s, I went with mainly armor. About 15-years ago decided to try one of those 1:350 scale ships and chose Tamiya's King George V. Was a great kit to build and paint - definitely had to take my time on that one, though did not use any PE. Think painting the kit was more fun than building it!! One thing to know about the early versions of Tamiya's 1:350 scale ships is that they did come with a small motor so that the model could actually be floated and move under its own power. My KGV still had the motor and battery brackets inside the hull (kind of like the early versions of Tamiya armor kits), and it came with metal rods for the propeller shafts. I also had the earlier versions of Bismark, Tirpitz, USS Missouri, USS New Jersey and they all had the same feature. Sometime in early 2000s (could be wrong about the timeframe) Tamiya re-issued most of their 1:350 scale ship models without the motor and removed the mounting brackets from the hull - looks like you got one of the updated versions. Then recently, say within last 5+ years or so, Tamiya started re-issuing kits with those pesky little motors. On my USS Missouri kit, I adventured out and purchased some aftermarket gun barrels because they had the hollowed-out ends which were pretty good, but never got brave enough for the railings. Off to a grand start and a terrific job on the build. Those Tamiya kits aren't too bad considering they initially came out almost forty years ago. Will be good to see which scheme you choose to paint.

Hi mate. I built this same kit, as my first ship build back in 2021. It was only my 3rd model build, after starting modelling again in 2020, after a gap of over 30 years. I chickened out on doing the camo scheme with mine. I just painted all the superstructure in a Grey colour. As depicted on the box for The Battle of the Denmark Straight. I did paint the top of the superstructure pieces and the turret tops in the darker grey. As pre the instructions. I did the same thing as you, with using the Eduard Cranes & Railings PE set. The railings and PE cranes do make a huge difference. I also added a wooden deck set. This does come in 2 or more pieces. But it does hide the seams in the plastic decks. I also added metal main gun barrels and an Eduard Royal Navy Crew Figure PE set (now discontinued). As far as those 5.5" secondary gun turrets go. There is a way of getting the guns to elevate without them dropping back into the body of the turret. If you pack out the inside of the turrets with some Blutac. The guns will still move up and down, but will not drop out of place, inside the turret. My PE railings do look a bit messy in places. It was my first go at a lot of PE. My next ship model should be better. I have 4 1/350 scale ships in my stash lol. looking forward to seeing you progress on this one mate.

My first ever kit, i prefer the ships over anything else, the waterline is always the pain The small round part you were unsure of is a anchor windless, just a pully system for the chains. Am looking forward to seeing her all painted up

Not bad for your 1st attempt Stu, Tamiya ship kits are great, I've done a few over the years, nice bit of history at the start, Did I ever tell you that my Grandfather was on the Hood when it was shelled by the Bismarck, sadly he wasn't 1 of the 3 survivors, ship kits are a bit of a learning curve when it comes to painting, good luck and see you in the next video.

Probably a good ship kit to start with as the fit is great, despite being somewhat laking in detail and the kit showing its age with rated deck lines. Brought back some memories as built this kit as a teenager its a subject I enjoy as my Grandfather was on a destroyer supporting her fight with the Bismarck after Hood Sunk. Looking forward to more. by the way you could use an earlier paint pattern as the model actually does not depict her as she was in the Pacific. think it says that on the box if memory serves.

Gotta admit Stu, the basic assembly seemed to have gone off quite well. I agree, the painting is more of the model than the structure itself. Good luck with the new airbrush. (and the PE)

Great start fellow Nerd, Some good tips.👍 When can we expect the next instalment? I have both Tamiya PoW and KGV (King George V) kits, which I intend to convert to RC, so called Plastic Magic :) With propulsion, rotating main gun turrets and NAV lights. I also have various PE sets and the wooden deck veneers. My first excursion into PE was with a 1:600 set for an Airfix HMS Manxman. I spent hours putting together 9 teeny weeny pieces to make up a Vickers quad machine gun mount, about 1/8" high - then it flipped out of my tweezers and vanished. I think the 'Carpet Monster' ate it!!😥 Looking forward to further vids from your build. Cheers, Doug😎

Very detailed review, Except for Flying Cloud and Cutty Sark I have not built ship models. I find it to be an interesting " dichotomy " between the scaling of ships to aircraft. Ship models are very detailed down to all the parts. Current aircraft scaling are certainly detailed, however if they could get the detail scaling of the cockpit down to the detailing of the ship scale that would be awesome. The two genres of kit manufacturers should get together and collaborate on ship manufacturers building the cockpits . Your experience with 3D modeling will certainly enhance your building of this kit. It is a shame the shallow water ships are being salvaged, someday they may hit explosives that are still active. They should base some kind of buoys to monitor the sites. An interesting bit of neutrality is that when large screen TV's became popular, Japan dominated the industry some of the carriers that were named after carriers sunk had Mitsubishi TV's in their entertainment lounges. But I digress. The building of the Prince of Wales is going to be very informative, especially to see how to paint those tiny parts. Standing by, Cheers and Thanks for sharing.

Great video! Just starting on my Tamiya 1/350 POW now. Noticed you have the etched railing. Did you buy that separately? I cant find it in my kit and yours looks the same as mine :/

I’m currently building a 1:350 Tamiya Bismarck and Tirpitz kit. But I’m really unsure of how to paint them. I’m thinking of trying to Airbrush them, but then idk if I need to put them together completely. Or if I can just take off parts and paint them individually. Any tips?

How come you didn’t airbrush before assembly? Deck etc? Is there a reason you couldn’t paint before fix?

where do you think part 52 is applied? l bought the same eduard set and l don't know what they are... Life Preserver Rings that you place randomly place on the superstructure?
