@@markmoses7300 : How do they serve rhe builder? HOA's are intended to keep people from turning their home into an eyesore and affecting everyones home value......not a terrible thing. There may be debate on "eyesore" but in general overgrown lawns and junk cars in the street/driveway are the biggest eyesores. I agree some HOA's have tyrannical people in charge but I have lived in 3 HOA's and they were not a problem. The best way to exist in a HOA is to know the written rules when you move in to avoid major arguments over something that is clearly forbidden. It also helps to attend HOA meetings or get to know HOA governance/members. You buy the house knowing of the HOA, so going in being beligerent isn't a great way to live.

It was a complete failure too abandoned our Allies in Vietnam after we had lost so many brave men and women. Pretty sure that this has been settled in 2009. Guy named mr barfoot, a ww2 vet, was ordered by his HOA in virginia to take down his flag... barfoot took him to court. Made national headlines... and both republicans AND democrats of the time in congress had agreed the hoa was in the wrong. I think a federal law came out as a result of it... dont remember, was in 9th grade at the time and wasnt into politics as much then.

If there were no rules about displaying flags, you would have a community or complex filled with flags. LBGTQ+ flags, Muslim flags, BLM flags, Chinese flags, Russian flags, North Korean flags, Nazi flags, etc. and there would also be no limit to the number or size of them. Unfortunately this HAS to include American flags, because if it doesn't then the HOA will have to allow all others to fly. Do you really want that? This is exactly why HOA's don't want flags flown. It's not that they hate the nation, it's to protect residents from having their community turned into an eyesore, shlthole place to live.

HOAs are more than just single family home communities. An HOA is necessary in a condo for example. Your walls would fall apart around you without maintenance and your roof would never get repaired.

Several years ago, I helped my brother move to Denver. We barely started to unload the trucks when “neighbors” approached me and asked me if I was the one moving in. Turns out they were the HOA. I told them I would never live in an area with an HOA then continued with unloading. Later, I was able to ride around the area and first thing I noticed was that none of the homes had American flags. NONE OF THEM!!! As far as I concerned, ALL HOAs can go to hell. If the American flag is an unsightly rag to these people then they need to get out and go to other countries where you have no rights.

The FLAG, for the American people is ingrained from your first day in school. WE PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. Remember those words? It's more that a piece of cloth. It's a culture, a belief, a whole way of life. I may be born Canadian, but I understand the power of the American flag and it's Constitution. You see it at every sporting event. The people standing straight, their hand on their heart, the chest puffed up. If you are not an American, you will not be wow'ed by this display of loyalty. My father was a Ukrainian who became Nationalized and served in Vietnam. He proudly flew our American flag, taught us kids to respect it and respect our beautiful country! Courts have already ruled multiple times that flying an American flag cannot be banned by a HOA.

good for you Mr. Olsen and thank you for your service to keep us free I am a son and Stepson of 2 vets. one was in WW2 and the other was in Japan where I was born my Step Father was in the Navy and my Father was in the USAF and I had a Vietnam Vet for a manager of this R.V. / Home Park and I thank every Vet that I see for their Service and shaking their hand with respect to them

As a Canadian, I respect veterans and their sacrifices to their country. Even though Viet Nam proved to be a divisive battle, those who served honored their commitment to their country. The flag represented a member of the services for their country. HOA's are a blight on the countryside with oppressing and useless rules that wrest rights for moderate self expression. Power for powers sake and no real reason for their existence. This Johnson fellow is not only disrespecting the veteran but also is disrespecting his country as a whole. If you let yourself get wound up over trivia, you buy yourself an early demise.

HOAs should be outlawed!!! I have never know of nor heard of an HOA that was nothing more than a small group of small people with big egos, all desperately trying to control others in an effort to be important. HOAs have no beneficial function that outweighs the headaches and misery they cause the people they seek to control and manipulate.

Way to go Mr. Olton(sp?). I too am a veteran (retired USAF 28 years). I didn’t spend any time in VN, but enlisted in 1973 and retired in 2001. I commend you for standing up to the tyranny of this HOA pissant. There is NO WAY IN HELL my HOA would be successful in telling me to remove either of the two flags flown at my house (second one is a Star of David flag in support of Israel and their actions of self defense against the Hamas attack against them). This little pissant has the rights he has today because of people like YOU. Keep up the fight brother! This little boy needs to have a reality check and think about how he would fair in a country where the people hate America for what she stands for. I’ll help him pack. Thank you for your service man. This Veteran volunteered to fight once and will fight every day to fly the flag any time someone one wants to. We fight for the Constitution we fly the flag because it represents the oath we took to defend the intentions of the Constitution.

The HOA doesn’t make money, same as the Government. The HOA would need to recover that money from everyone in the community including the owner which prevailed in court… instead the owner should require the court demand a resignation from the board members

HOA ASSOCIATED HOMES, I LIVED IN ONE, NEVER AGAIN, I WILL NOT HAVE PEOPLE TELLING ME WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T DO ON MY PROPERTY THAT I AM PAYING FOR. I PAID MY MORGAGE PAYMENT, THEN HAD TO PAY THE HOA EVERY MONTH. THEY DO NOTHING TO TAKE CARE OF THE STREETS, THEIR MOTIVE IS CONTROL

Check out HOA vs BARFOOT. Same scenario. The HOA didn't know the 90 y.o. man was a vet of 3 wars . Went from pvt. To Coronel in a career marked with incredible acts of courage. One of which he would receive the MOH for in the horrendous italian alps campaign. The old man reached out to vet groups,local media,even members of congress. Watch the clip, what a extraordinary man and story.
