my boyfriend kept a small stuffed teddy bear from an ex girlfriend who gave him the teddy bear as a way of saying sorry for giving him herpies. The teddy bear hangs from a rope with a noose around it's neck on a wall in the media room, right above the TV where you see it all the time.

But, it is worth something, to me. Sentimental value. I don't really play the Pokémon TCG much anymore (all my friends who also played it moved away), but I still kept my old cards, and the Kyogre themed Card Sleeves from the ORAS Elite Trainer Box that I used for my, at the time, great Water/Fairy deck. Do those cards ever see the light of day? No, they're sitting in a binder on the top shelf of my closet, but they'll always remind me of the days I spent with my friends in the school cafeteria, playing Pokémon, Super Smash Bros. For 3DS, and the occasional one-shot campaigns of D&D, and it's because of those treasured memories that I'll never get rid of that binder full of cards.

I keep gifts from exes depending on how the relationship went. For example I’m still good friends with an ex and I still have a couple of drawings he once made me, one of my exes who was very verbally abusive: I burned everything from them. I have another ex where we mutually broke up and agreed we had only got in a relationship for the sake of it and feelings weren’t really there, I gave most presents back excluding the ones he specifically said he still wanted me to have. I don’t find it weird I think it’s a person by person/ situation by situation type thing

Keeping sketchbooks are like keeping a collection of visual diaries, it’s apart of who you are and who you once were🙂 As long as they’re organized on a bookshelf or in a storage box then I don’t think it can be considered hoarding. I personally have drawings and sketchbooks as far back as when I was about 7 years old😁

I'm a hoarder too thanks to my mom. Though I've been trying to keep less stuff and throw more old stuff away, which feels good sometimes. But I keep movie and concert tickets for some reason. And if I travel then I also like to keep boarding passes, hotel cards, subway tickets etc. And about the ex part. I would tell the new person that it was just a gift from friend so that he/she doesn't overthink this object and attachment behind it and you can wear it without any shame.

for anyone who has a problem getting rid of items bc they have sentimental value, I would suggest taking a photo of the item and making an album on your phone. this way you can get rid of the item, and you still have the memory of it (which you can access at almost any given time)

I don't have any Ex's, but I do have old "friends" who had given me things like friendship necklaces and those card things you get out the photobooth of a chuckey cheeses'. I threw any and all pictures of those people away, but I kept any jewelry or something just because I liked it. And if I remember its from that person I make up another story that doesn't involve them to not have any hard feelings over said item.
