I do have a lot of respect for Martin for protecting his children, but on the heel of that, I am glad he wasn't too harsh with the interviewer - he was very apologetic on realising his mistake, after all, and Martin seemed to recognise it; just laying down a kind of 'I won't talk too much about my children' thing in his own way.

that wasn't martin freeman saying it, it was the handler, and the reporters understand and know the routine -- they have only a few minutes to get their questions answered, and there's no time for the things he was asking for. it was out of line to ask in the first place, and the reporter knew that.

No it's his job to ask questions about the movie which the viewers may find interesting. He is not supposed to know every single detail of their lives. He interviews LOADS of people, and all you are is a fangirl to the Hobbit crew so of course you know details about their lives.

A WILD ANDY SERKIS APPEARS!

He's an entertainment journalist. Normally that means the job is to ask actors about themselves as well as about their movies. He CHOSE to ask Martin about people in his personal life, so obviously he sees his job as including the personal lives not just the film. Martin is playing the main character of a major film and it's easy and quick to read basic details facts about an actor online online. If he didn't research his questions or he forgot his data he at least could've covered it up better.

I would think he (the interviewer) would still do a bit of research if he was assigned an interview, though. Freeman is private about his life, which is perfectly fine. So when you don't know something, you just keep things general. Instead of saying "daughters," say "kids." But, I was an English major in college, so proper research etiquette has been drilled into my head lol. I guess I'm just picky when it comes to these things :P

Besides, just because you were born somewhere doesn't mean you "get" everything about that place.If I "got" brazillian tv, music, humor I wouldn't be watching and listening to so much brit things. there is no arrogance in saying no - the only arrogance is the arrogance of reporters and "fans" like you who seem to think you somehow have right to ask whatever you want just because a celebrity is in the public view - the interviewer knew the routine yet he still went out of line for personal things, Martin was nice enough to jokingly in his sarcastic way to let him down easy - and anyways, that last no about the photo came from other organizer people in the room, not Martin.
