Parents will say things that stick with a child all their lives. In my early years, back in the 1950's, we were poor. Lived for a while in a chicken coop that was converted into a house. Once when I wanted some toy or ice cream or whatever, I remember my mother saying, "I used to complain because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet." That stuck with me all these years.

I grabbed a pouch of captain black from the corner store. My first tobacco purchase mind you. Grabbed my first pipe (a vintage brair wood straight pipe) nothing fancy. Packed the bowl and gave it a go. Turned on this video to smoke along with. First impressions were I wasn’t ready for how hot the bowl got but the draw was smooth and flavor very light and pleasant. But watching you I started to pack down the ambers when the smoke got lighter and that was a fun protip. My first session was an enjoyable one so I thank you good sir.

Kevin, your conversation matched the day - cool, thoughtful, pleasant with just a touch of your humor that is like a capricious autumn breeze. I'm sure that the humming birds enjoyed their spring and summer stay with you - most likely you have a five star rating in their guide to great places. Those two 'novice' blends are not only good choices but encouraging choices. Both being premium tobacco blends their choices speak well of today's pipe smoking novices and of their continuing journey with leaf and bowl. Watch it, my friend - your musings about Cult Blood Red Moon disappearing could trigger a run on it 😬 so if it disappears off of shelves in B&Ms and online, we'll know who to blame 😉The second blend is, as you note, a sharp contrast to Cult Blood Red Moon. Perhaps, the disappearance of pipe tobacco from the drug stores and supermarkets and the availability of the YTPC have contributed to new pipers being more likely to start with better quality tobacco blends. Certainly YT channels like yours help in that process. The cooler temperatures and blue skies of autumn seem to beckon to the pipe smoker to fill a pipe and relax as the rhythms of the fading year slow. If there is a natural season for the pipe it is autumn. Be well, stay safe, and keep the awesome going strong - peace

I tried to get my hands on some Cult blood red moon on a notable auction style website but someone got them from me at the last moment. Oh well. At the moment I’m smoking some half-and-half in my Missouri meerschaum bent Mizzou. If I had to guess by what I see, watching squirrels is either an older man’s joy, or it’s becoming a lost activity. I can’t imagine any of my children wanting to sit and watch squirrels. There really is something quaint and enjoyable about it though, in my opinion. I also wanted to add that I really like when you poll your viewers about different subjects concerning tobacco. It’s just fun and interesting to see what people are doing.

What a coincidence. I just ordered a tin of early morning pipe along with Savinelli’s red alligator 673 pipe. I am smoking, Seattle pipe Club’s plum, pudding, special reserve, flake this morning in my Missouri meerschaum‘s shire pipe. Speaking of that pipe, go on their website and check out their new Shire. It has a beautiful new stem. I also want to ask you if you have tried Petersons silver spigot pipes? I really love the way you can take them apart while you’re still smoking and sop up any moisture. I have four of them: the 406, 408, the XL 02, and the system 303 p-lip. All of them are the Newgrange line except for the last one. Love your reviews. Thanks for all your efforts. They are very appreciated. God bless you. John.

Firstly, I have really enjoyed your videos over the last year and a half Kevin. Thank you! I bought Blood Red Moon, Orlik Golden Sliced and PS24 Nougat all on your recommendation and have enjoyed them all. I think I need to get some Early Morning, as well as some Capstan Blue and Gold flake. And probably many more 😂 Wondering if you have tried/or could review John Cotton's: Double Pressed Creme and/or Dan Tobacco: Devil's Holiday Also wondering if you use a filter in any of your pipes?
@hobbitonpiper6 ай бұрын
I’ve never had either of those! No, I prefer to smoke without a filter. Better flavor and less constricted airflow. Some do prefer filters tho as they can reduce steam / tongue bite

Smokin my first bowl of Autumn Evening in my 320 KS Oceano, and loving it! Knew the first tobacco as soon as you said aromatic. If they stop making it, that could be the end of that company! Love my English, but not a fan of EMP. Don't know why..

I'm maybe a year into pipe smoking, and Blood Red Moon is my current favorite. I've tried Daybreak, which I understand is similar to EMP, and I didn't enjoy it. It just seemed to have a weird twang.

As soon as you mention me about Cult Blood Red moon i've ordered a couple of tins along with a bunch of other tobacco. And the dutch border didn't want me to have that package and send it back. 4Noggins re send it again and it is on its way again. I bought a vintage WDC Wellington pipe 9 inch long. And i am waiting on 2 tobacco orders to come in. So in this state i cannot enjoy my smoke no more. I have to let go but i can't hahahahaha. My corncop pipe died a year ago and i did cpr on it and it has go threu some changes and looks unique now. I wil try and make a video about this a.s.a.p. Greetings,, Kitty.

Early Morning Pipe is a great choice but I can’t stand the Cult…all about personal tastes. It’s been a while since I last tried Cult so maybe I should give it another try next tobacco order I make. Great discussion & video. Thanks 😊
@hobbitonpiper2 жыл бұрын
If you couldn’t stand it before then you may still not enjoy it much today and that’s fine, there are so many choices out there. Many would say EMP is an awful choice because they can’t stand Latakia, so as you said it’s all about personal tastes :)

Love the EMP Kev, not tried Blood red moon,will look for it. What am I smoking? I have 2 bespoke aro blends I have put together. "Paul's Chocomel liqueur" (40% SG Choc flake/40%SG Spirit of Scotland/20% SG Coffee Caramel American Blend) This has become an instant hit! It's like a slightly boozy trifle with subtle whiskey n caramel and cool tobacco richness from the flake and Cavendish. I give the flake a couple of days out to dry before blending) "Aged Honey Nut Maple " (80% Solani Aged Burley Flake with 20% GH Rich Dark Spring Dew.) Gives a smooth smoking blend with savoury notes from the burley and natural flavours and aromas from the RDSD. The 3 Lakeland tobaccos used have very little of the Lakeland essence allowing the quality tobacco flavours to shine. Really enjoying these blends, maybe you could try them on the channel if you can get the ingredients? Be a cool video.

My only regret being new to pipes is missing out on the legendary McClelland blends like Frog Morton. Any ideas on the closest comparables? I know as a newbie, I would love to know the best still in production/available blends similar to these illusive McClelland and Esoteric blends we all keep hearing about. Sure they won't be EXACTLY the same, but something close-ish?
@hobbitonpiper2 жыл бұрын
They were special…in my mind there’s really no true replacements, although blends like Boswell Northwoods have similarities to the Frog Morton line (I prefer Boswell Countryside, and have reviewed it), SPC Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged is one to look at for fans of Frog Morton’s Cellar. As far as McClellands Virginia blends tho, those were next level…
