I worked at a HL for years, and I can give some insight. A "D" on the tag is "deleted," and means it is going away and if remaining items of that SKU make it to the price reduction, it will be red tagged. It cannot be ordered any longer. The tags in the homes with no yarn, but no sharpie "D," are just out of stock. The labels are to be frequently replaced, though the SKU doesn't change. Six digit SKU's are older; seven digit SKU's starting w/24xxxxx, 25xxxxx,26xxxxx, etc in ascending order are newer. Product can be replaced with within a SKU's, but once a SKU is deleted, that number is never used again. The reason you are seeing dividers that haven't been moved into the correct place yet is that the reset is generally hectic and when your shift ends, it needs to look "nice," for customers. It's going to look chaotic for a bit until the reset is finished. I was told by former coworkers still at various HL's that multiple departments are shrinking and seasonal will be expanding. So there may be some new yarn, but not likely as the department has one major reset(now)and one moderate later in the summer and potentially a small one in the fall. A certain yarn may sell well in a particular area, but if it doesn't at certain stores, corporate doesn't take that into account. If you remember the way they ring you at the register, no item is scanned(save patterns), and you receipt is generic, saying only the department and price. The only way they track products "popularity" is when Department heads order it(to the employees knowledge)on order day with the iPad. Sorry for the length, but I hope this clears up some questions everyone has. 🙂

It sounds like they don't want my business. I go there ONLY to shop for yarn, and occasionally buy in other departments. So they'll lose my business completely if I have no reason to go... Not smart, as from what I am seeing, I am not alone in this attitude. Have a good day. 🐞

I did ask my hobby lobby what was going on with yarn section and they told me that one entire isle is no longer going to exist. It's a shame.

Fairview Heights Illinois is moving their yarn around too, and it looks like they are eliminating one aisle. They only had a few random 75% skeins left. We need more yarn, not less!!!😳 Get with the program Hobby Lobby🤣🤣🤣

I went to my local HL a few days ago and they took out all the yarn I like such as the hand dyed wool and the kroy sock yarn. Oh well, they just lost a customer.

Went to my Hobby Lobby today. They didn't have nothing left that was on Clarence. Yeah my Hobby Lobby is moving things around.

My Hobby Lobby clearanced everything in early March, and the reset has now been completed. HL is quite the drive from my home, so I usually go once or twice a month and previously spent a lot of money in the yarn area. I went to HL yesterday. There is now 1.5 aisles of HL brand yarns. I could not find much beyond worsted or DK weights. Beyond disappointing. I was in the store less than 5 minutes, bought nothing, and no longer have any reason to enter the store ever again. My yarn purchasing will now have to occur online. (Note, we don't have a LYS, or a JoAnnes, and our Michael's and Walmart yarn selection is pathetic. There are no other options)

I found out here in Oklahoma that they are shrinking all yarn because it doesn’t sell. Actually home office was in the Yukon Oklahoma location and I over heard them tell the store manager to move the shelves to make room for new and different product that will sell better. I have known about this for weeks, this is why they had an early clearance sale. It sucks but it’s true.

I asked an employees at my Michael's about the rumors of them also downsizing their yarn section and she said no, that it not happening. Mine is a larger stores. They are just low on yarn. Also, I found a grey striped ice cream big scoop skein but it scanned it regular price. She said might only be the smaller stores that clearance particular yarn out.

I was just in hobby lobby two weeks ago (after not having been there for months), I noticed they moved the yarn aisles from where they had always been and it looked like there wasn't as much as usual. I wondered if they were shrinking down or what was going on, I don't even remember seeing certain yarns there that used to be there. Typically I go to hobby lobby quite often, but I went through a small period of not crocheting much, so not really needing yarn. So I don't know when they moved everything, but I sure hope they are not shrinking this is my favorite place to get yarn!!

I talked to a manager of the Duluth MN Hobby Lobby and the man said that they are going down to 3 sides (1.5 aisles).

I was in my local H L in eastern Iowa just today. Some bulky yarn was left on clearance. Yarn was in three different areas of the store. They had one side of an aisle on one side the material section and on the other side of the material section were bits and pieces of where all the yarn used to be located. Then they had almost a full side of an aisle by the "plants". I was told there will be three aisle sides of yarn in the future. It looks like they have also reduced the needlecraft supplies to one side of one aisle down from two. Happy shopping!

My store in northern ky has done there reset from my understanding the ceo retired or whatever and the new head person is taking it more towards home goods….ya know 1st they take away the 40% coupon and now tff go by take away a lot of yarn to me hobby lobby is going to hell in a handbaskrt

They discontinued all of the solid color sugarwheel cotton yarn and that was my favorite one to use.. I got a bunch that are discontinued now but not enough to make full projects..

That’s how my HL looks, too. I’ll still go there for the odd ball of yarn. I do like their Yarn Bee Mini Maker mini skeins and their Soft and Sleek yarn (5oz for $5). Their $4.99 tote bags are nice, too.

I don't usually go to stores to buy yarn but I went to Hobby Lobby for the sale. 🙂 One of the ones I went to already had the yarn down to 1 aisle and a bit in another. The other aisle already had random knickknacks occupying it. Reminded me of a department store. Haha 🤣

Our HL here in Issaquah, Washington had a miniscule happy yearly sale and when the hanks came back IN (THEY DIDN'T ever have that many anyway) and instead of $13.99 a hank, are Now $15.99 a hank! So- check the prices on those New labels. Most likely, they will have a new inflated price tag as well!

I went to my HL on Saturday and it was a mess and empty shelves. An employee was working and I asked what was going on. She only commented they are resetting everything. She didn't offer much more.

I went to mine on the 1st Sat of the clearance when they were still marking down. That’s been about 3 weeks I think so I am curious if I went back this Sat how much would be left & if they have moved the yarn yet. If they are getting rid of non-Hobby Lobby brands then will they carry a sock yarn? I can’t think of any HL sock yarn brands. Right now all that comes to mind is Patons.

I heard they will only carry their brand.

We're just going to have to wait and hope for the best! With the economy being what it is It would not surprise me if brick and mortars vanished in the future.

I wonder if there is a production issue in Turkey from the earthquake or distribution issue.

My Hobby Lobby looks much better than yours. They moved the shelves and they are now full. I will have to double check the number of aisles. I do know they had random end caps of yarn around the yarn and fabric section.
