So Ive recently taken a strong interest in 3d modeling and I'm planning to back to school for it. I went to a technical college/trade school and got an associate's degree in automotive refinishing right after highschool and I moved away from home to work in that industry. Spoilers, I quit after a year because it's pretty dead end and I lost completely interest in it. So, I moved BACK home last September and Ive been doing alot of soul searching this entire time. I decided I wanted to dive into what i really liked doing, which is creating. I draw alot and I used to create electronic music. I was originally planning on going to a music school and learn sound engineering but I found out that 3d modeling is stronger in my heart, at least right now. Working on music again is still very much on my bucket list though. Oh did I mention that the college Im going back to is very cheap? It's really great! Tuition was a little over $5000. Oh and I'll be 21 this year. this is a VERY inspirational video!!

for sound engineering, don't spend all your money on school, most of them are going to try to charge you 10k and more by sessions, thats the magic of youtube nowadays, there is actual people working in the industry that can give you wayyyyyyy more baggages and advices than someone who is stuck in the old industry :), Id suggest trying a DAW and learning everything about it if you dont already do :)

You did a good job on overall summary of your experience. I've gone through a tech college as well. I enjoyed the experience, but I don't think getting into that much debt is a good idea. I have used Plural Sight, which has a lot great videos on modeling, texturing, and even specific software videos. The portfolio is key to getting a job. Especially in the game industry. You need to show you can produce great art in order to get hired. I'm trying to build a better portfolio now and network with other artists.

Blender is a great place to start! It’s open source and people are always making tools and scripts to make modeling better. I’ve seen tons of KZfaq tutorials for it as well! I really should spend some time with Blender myself but I just prefer 3DS Max after spending so much time learning Maya. It’s just superior in every way in my biased opinion haha!

That’s exactly what I did! Going from 2D to 3D can have a learning curve for sure. I highly recommend downloading free 3D modeling software like Blender or doing a 30 day trial of Maya or 3DS Max and following along to beginner tutorials on KZfaq. ❤️

I've been a video editor for 4-5 years now since middle school, as I've graduated early at 16 I took two years to see what I wanted to do and a well-needed break, Well i've taken an intrest in 3d modeling/3d animation creation from software such as blender, houdini, and maya. Now at 18 now my family is eager to see me go to college, I'm not all for the idea as I do not come from a wealthy family so I will need to get loans, which debt to me sounds very scary and very stressful. Also, there are so many free resources online to help educate me in the area of which I mainly want to work in being 3d modeling/3d animation for video games/film. For me to avoid college and a large amount of debt, and stress do you know of any certificates I could go for that might sound more appealing for my family but also be beneficial for my potential future job opportunities? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you so much!

How is it going? Hope you are well. Have you tried looking towards community college? Like if anyone of them have an associate degree? Just curious to know? Also, have you started an portfolio too?

@@liizzset Hey! Thank you so much for the reply! July 5th I will start studying at LA school of film and animation, for animation. I will go for my BA in science in Animation and study under the accelerated program for 3 years with a focus on character and environmental design. I've made a Behance profile to promote my portfolio and projects I'm currently working on! I live in a super small town so a community College was probably not really the best route as the only college around doesnt have any programs that would be beneficial for what I want to do. I decided to see how much students aid I could get and it was quite a bit since this is my first time applying! That gave me the motivation to go through with it. Seriously thank you for the reply means a lot someone cares!

@@DaisukeVSekaiEN You are welcome 🤗. I am so happy for you. Good luck with your journey. And finding student aid. Maybe they have it available there. Don't go into suspicious dealing though. 💯, Not a good idea. With that if there is no community college which can help then agree, head to better pastures. Also glad you have a portfolio. Can I follow you on Behance? Are you going to document your journey? It doesn't have to be KZfaq. Like in pictures of school events etc. If you have time. Or maybe I am a old crone. Lol. But I find out sometimes it is good to look back at how far you can from, encourage you. Soon, you would be creating the backgrounds of some important game.

Can you get a career solely in game prop/object design? I’m not interested in character design, I may be a little interested in environment design, but overall would really like to just focus on props/objects
@meggsngrits
@meggsngrits 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can! You’ll need to look for a company that has large teams that use a pipeline method. Smaller teams will have artists doing multiple steps of the pipeline which could include modeling whatever they need (characters, environments, etc) rather than just modeling hard surface objects. Hopefully that makes sense. 😅 It is sometimes easier finding a job if you are a 3D generalist, but specializing in a certain kind of modeling can also give you an advantage in the right job setting since you would be highly skilled in that one area.
