10-12-2019 -- Thanks for the compliment, I like to share my experiences, I have learned so much from other youtubers' videos, and like to pay it back with my info. If you watch my older video, you can hear my stock original Arrma 3200kv 'whiney' motor, [ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8-hoqWarbjZhY0.html ] I got tired of hearing it and started experimenting with Hobbywing motors. I now use my Hobbywing 4000kv most all the time, love it, nice and quiet and fast. It's my go-to motor, fits perfect in the Arrma Granite BLX 4x4 3s, and it is 2s/3s Lipo capable. Real Happy with the Hobbywing 4000kv.

I think what needs to be mentioned with these motors is that they are fast but to get the most out of them you need to be using a high voltage ESC, these motors need more power they usally combo with an HW max 10 ESC at 120amps which is good for 4cell not 2cell, whilst the motors are rated at 2 to 3cell for warrantee reasons on all brushless motors now days the ESC states 2-4s on lipo with a recommended 3cell count of the lipo being 3 with a +50c discharge, the motor and esc handle this well, without getting too hot. I personally see around 95kmh/60mph with a Hobbywing MAX10 SCT ESC Combo With 3660Sl 3200Kv Brushless Motor on a 4wd chassis on a typical high discharge 3cell and on a 4cell turnigy graphene I can get around 110kmh 70mph on a stretch and that's the difference between using cheap components with quality parts like in this video or using quality parts with quality parts, yes you may think this is slow but that's because it's being used bad stock lipo and cheap 100a stock esc no doubt

On 3s should do 58mph 4000kv that s 50per cent more power and the 3200kv should do 48 mph test it out 3s huge difference

Great comparison video! Ide like you to try 100-130c batteries to see if it changes the speed. If you are unable, I don’t own any low c rating batteries, but Ide be willing to test this to see if it get higher speeds. Great video! 👏👍💯

This was an old video, I don't use the hobbywing motor or esc anymore went to Surpass Hobby Platinum 3660 3300kv & 3800kv motors and Original Granite Version 1 esc BLX100 esc. Sorry, I now use Zee Lipos 8,200mah 120c 2s, love them, only use them. This video got alot of views, never thought it would, I was confused about 'KV' and researched and threw together this video. Did you run both same pinion the 4000kv with 2teeth less will run better off rd just as good as the other 1.when you got higher kv you meant use 2 tooth less pinion or 3 tooth

Thanks for testing this. Would this mean that the 4600KV set has even higher top speed? What would you recommend for your Arrma? The 3200KV for more torque? And is the 4000KV motor also rated for 3S?

It's mainly how you use your rc as to which motor is better for you.

Lower kv with higher gearing is all u need and my granite blx v3 able to hit 51.6mph out of the box with 3s(5200mah/60c) Lower kv also runs cooler Just sharing! :D

What pinion do you recommend for the 4000kv? 12 or 13t? Did you used 15t stock pinion for all these tests? thanks

I always stick with the stock 15t I have the original motor mount with the drilled holes for 15t, 20t etc. I don't like the newer adjustable motor mount due to screws loosening and motor adjustment moving. IF you use a lower 12t or 13t pinion with a 4000kv motor you will be gearing down the motor so will go slower top speed. IF you are looking to speed up Top speed, you would want to go to a higher "t" pinion to up your top speed with a 4000kv motor. Make sense? Good luck. I am running a 3300kv motor now with 15t pinion and loving it for high grass and blacktop bashing. 4000kv would be sluggish in grass. :+\

Alot of bashers do play around with changing the pinion gears, I stick with the 15t Granite stock pinion and just change kv motors, I'm using a Surpass Hobby 3500kv (Amzn) and nothing special, did top speed of 30mph (2s lipo) , but rarely a wheelie. My favorite matchup is 15t pinion and a 3200kv 3660 brushless motor for best mix of off road and blacktop running. WLToys had big problem with their large kv motor and large pinion, had to come up with a "Version 2" Tomley has a vid on the ver 2 incident, so I don't want problems with cogging (Hesitation) so I keep in a certain range always with 15t stock pinion. If you ever rode a 10 speed bike, you get a better idea of gearing issues from the similar effect.

@@danyan55 my granite I put a 130amp Fuse 4S esc in it and it will hold a wheelie as long as you hold the throttle. With 3S or 4S. Stock brushless model would basically do the same. So the upgrade barely made a difference. With the stock motor still in. I’m looking at a 4278 1700kv Taurus I’m putting in my tailon with the stock 6S 150 amp esc. From a 2050kv and wondering if I should up the pinion or leave it.

@@jimmyv1753 Playing around with pinion changing is a tough call... i leave mine at the stock 15t and run a 3200kv 3660 motor with only 2s ( 3s pops out my driveshafts cross part) so I just deal with 8200mah 120c Zeee lipos, 100amp stock ESC. Give it a try, a low kv rating will give you high torque, but lower top speed. If you don't get everything right you may run into cogging / delays on the startup with motor. Have fun... :+)

@@danyan55 yeah. I’m working with a stock Talion 6S and I have already ordered the 1700kv motor. I’m not sure if or where I’ll use it. I’ve got several 6S/4S/3S/2S vehicles. I was hoping to stuck the 1700 in the tailon and add 2 teeth to the pinion and was hoping for similar top speed with a little extra torque.

My Arrma Granite is getting a spectrum 4000Kv upgrade this week. Or should I go with the a lower kv??

You have to remember the HIGHER the kv, the higher TOP SPEED and less low end TORQUE. High kv i.e. 4000kv is good for on road rc'ing, but not so good for OFF road RC'ing, you have to decide on where you ride your rc most of the time, (ME, I use mine on road, and slightly on grassy low hills, [ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbt1Z5aUpt2nfH0.html ] so I settled on my Surpass Hobby Platinum 3800kv and it works great for my purposes. # I read online, that 3000kv and LOWER are good motors for OFF ROAD, and 3000kv and higher are good for ON ROAD. The lowest kv motor I have ever used was 3200kv Granite stock motor. *I have trouble with my 3800kv clicking off my ESC IF I try to go UP a steep hill ( * To reset ESC and get rc moving again, turn on/off switch Off- then back on) You have to know your rc likes... speed or torque, your choice... Have fun

If you get a 2200kv motor you can run it on 6s getting a lot more torque and also more rpm so, more speed

I use only Traxxas 7600mah 2s Lipo batteries, I get maybe 40 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes depending on how fast I run the rc truck. It depends on how hard I use the throttle. I rarely use 3s batteries due to plastic/composite gears in Granite dif's, too easily stripped on 3s Lipos.

The stock 3200kv motor I saw a video on youtube showed he did a stock motor test using 2s lipo, and he came out maybe 30mph. The fine print on Arrma Granite box says "50mph" BUT that is with a 3s lipo to get maybe 50mph. I never use 3s, breaks too many parts, so I always use 2s 8200mah Zeee Premium lipos for longer runtime, not concerned with speed, just run time. There are some youtubers who did speed tests with 3s. Not for me... I spent enough on repair parts after 2.5 years of my Granite v1.

@@666soccermom666 Sorry about the confusion, Arrma Named this rc with the "3s" to make us aware that will use UP TO A 3s Lipo, It will also run on a 2s lipo. I never use a 3s lipo on my Granite rc, as it does more parts damage at high speeds. The ESC is rated at a 3s Lipo use, but will work fine at 2s. The proper name used by ARRMA for this rc is "Arrma Granite 4x4 BLX 3s" I have used a 3s lipo on this rc, but it was running too fast for the weaker parts, and I got more breakage. Be well. D.

I wonder if the higher current of the max 10 sct esc would make a difference. Also I think a 3s would add a lot more speed as well as using a battery with a higher C rating. 25c is very low

I have one 3s lipo I stopped using, the drive shafts would break apart at that cross-shaped-metal joint too much. I can estimate from other 3s users, maybe 5-10 mph faster w/ 3s, my credit card was crying for me to stop using 3s... :+$ I'm using all ZEEE Premium 8200mah 2s 120c lipos now, love them... (Amzn) be well!

So i got a 4300kv f540 (finned 380 motor i guess) and 35a esc both hw combo, running mostly offroad but i turned the throttle trim half way down, motor does get hot idk how long it will survive lol. Using on hsp 94123 with bigger traxxes slash wheels

4300kv will gear it high for top speed use, amazing the 35 amp ESC could survive it. With the bigger wheels, you are still gearing it up for top speed use, not so much 'off road' You are like me I love to experiment, come hell, or high water. I estimate from seeing other speed tests that with a 2s Lipo you would get 10 mph LESS top speed than using a 3S Lipo. I avoid 3s lipo, I'm not into 'high speed' it usually means more parts breaking. :+\ $$

Yep, keeps the rate of broken parts to a minimum. I am not out for speed, just a hobby. I spend enough $$ on Arrma repair parts. Just bought a HSP 94111 4wd rc. Love it, better built than Granite, using 100c 2s 5000mah lipos on it, runs great and durable. 3300kv motor Good quality 4wd rc. Good deal on Ebay for it. My Traxxas 7600mah lipos 2s are all 25c, use for long runtime not for punch, Granite drive shafts become a problem with high torque and 3s. Not for me...

Never used a Tamiya, IF your current motor is a 3660 style motor and 5mm shaft, you may be able to. Check your Tamiya rc specs for stock motor info.

I have used the Hobbywing esc (120a I believe) with my Granite, but I went back to the stock Arrma BLX100 ESC due to the on/off switch mounting better fit. I placed my receiver inside a balloon and zip tied it, and never had problems again due to water getting in the receiver box (and burning out receiver... no more problems with balloon trick). I like using the BLX 100 esc more than Hobbywing due to switch mounting and I'm more familiar with Arrma's BLX100. Not sure about a 60a esc, maybe someone will use 'comments'here with help for you. I stick with 100a ESC's and above.

I never run my rc on 4s, nor 3s, makes too many costly repairs for me. Strictly a 2s RC'er. Hobbywing website may give more specs for these motors. I was surprised this vid got so many views, never planned it that way. Peace out.

I am using now Supass hobby 3800kv brushless motor now, love it. I saw your channel, NICE! I was out bashing with a fellow today has a new 9125, awesome! I am impressed all he got with the rc. He's buying 5000mah batteries, he thinks he can get them to fit somehow, what a nice rc!! Quiet, fast, durable, love it and batteries 1600mah (2) lipo 2s included. great value.

@@nickyotto349 Yes, most of the rc's claim higher mph on their box, if you watch "tomley" youtube channel, he shows how the fine print says on many different rc's with :"3s" or with optional pinion gears added would get higher mph. I have three Arrma Granites BLX 4x4, and I only run them with Zee 9,000mah 2S lipo's, and stock gearing , (3300kv Surpss Hobby motor used now, I get max 35 + - mph top speed. So to get over or close to 50mph on Granite BLX 4x4 you would need 3s Lipo and a non-stock pinion gear on motor. 30mph is fine with me. 3S breaks too many parts for me. :+$, Thanks Nicky...

@@nickyotto349 I and my son run the Granites when he visits from his out of state home, and the 2s is fun enough at our local school parking lot. The expense and work for repairing a faster rc (3S lipo) gets expensive and time consuming. I just enjoy driving the rc, not repairing it. :+\ Enjoy, love the Granite. Can't think of a better rc.
