Shout out to: Hello RC, CreekCreeperRc & RCLifeChoseMe, Convinced me to try a brushless system.
I went with the HW Fusion SE 1800kv and I am impressed! Pretty easy install, very smooth throttle control and a great drag break.
Thanks again for watching!

Nice! If you drill new holes in the chassis and mount the shocks more layed down about 45° you'll get way better articulation, if thats what you want. I have the same truck and those same shocks. I bought 2 different shock mounts but neither worked great because the lower shock mount puts the shock so close to the chassis it binds.This way I get better lcg and crazy articulation.
@NEO-RC
@NEO-RC 9 ай бұрын
I’ll try that thank you. Finding shock mounts that will work for this is proving pretty difficult but thank you. The desert lizards are by far the best shock I’ve tried so far

@NEO-RC I have my shocks set up with no springs installed at all. But im finding that the front end unloads quite a bit while climbing up steep inclines, so im going to try using the longest, medium strength spring underneath on the front shocks to hopefully prevent that from happening.

I noticed the shocks are rather poorly positioned but i put softer springs in mine and it made a crazy difference crawls 60° angle

Thank you for the little push to try it. I love that brushless system and definitely won’t be the last rig I put one of those in. I did strip the set screw somehow on the pinion gear but was able to retap and get it back in but have another one the way since their only $8.

@@NEO-RC Anytime man I'm glad you are enjoying it, I wouldn't be surprised if you started picking up more brushless motors now that you have experience with this build. Pinion set screws always need locktite but then they strip out when you try to remove them lol just the way it goes.
@chrispearce9224
@chrispearce9224 9 ай бұрын
Quick tip: If you soak, or brush the motor pinion and it's set screw with a good cleaner. Let it dry. Then thread locking compound is not needed. You just gotta get the metal clean so it can sort of bind a little when tightening. Me personally...I use brake clean or isopropyl alcohol if I run out of brake clean. Oh and DON'T use the non-chlorinated brake clean (green can). It will leave a residue.

@NEO-RC

Go for it! The Hw fusions are the best upgrade for any RTR. If you can, I recommend the fusion pro but SE 1800kv at half the price is great as well. Or if you want stay brushed the hw 1080 esc is also a good upgrade. Thanks so much for watching and dropping a comment! 👍

Great video! I recently picked up an Atlas and I really love the look of it, but it's loud and the speed doesn't modulate very well. I'm thinking about upgrading the motor and esc and you've inspired me. I've never done that before, so I'm a bit intimidated. Did you have to do any custom mounting or did the motor bolt right in? Yours sound really quiet and it looks like it modulates nicely. What a beautiful environment to run it in as well! Nice work.
@NEO-RC

The atlas was my first motor upgrade too. Not at all as hard as it may look. Just don’t couple the pinion gear (on the motor shaft) to the spur too tightly. Leave a little slack so the gears turn easily and don’t bind. I had take it back apart and loosen the spacing just a bit. Not that hard to do at all👍

Nice truck I have the same one and installed the Hobbywing 1080 esc, a lot more control. Have you had any issues with your rig? My front axle shafts have these pins by the knuckles that are creeping out under normal driving. Have you had the same issue with the Atlas?
@NEO-RC
@NEO-RC Ай бұрын
Thank you! I’ve had the same issue with the axle knuckle pins walking out. I tapped them back in but they keep walking out. Not sure what can be done aside from getting all new axles. My Atlas has been on the shelf since those pins keep walking out and I have other projects so I haven’t really messed with it much.

Nice upgrades brother, can the front bumper be tucked in closer to the grill or will it rub on the tires?
@NEO-RC
@NEO-RC 2 ай бұрын
Thank you sir, really appreciate that! It’s a solid piece of plastic so I’d have to be cut down and it would probably rub the tires. Not a lot of options for aftermarket bumpers on the atlas either or any that I’ve seen.

@NEO-RC
@NEO-RC 9 ай бұрын
Yes sir it did. That and the steering arm are what’s limiting the front suspension travel with taller shocks. Try giving FMS a call or email, they may just send you one. Part for the atlas on FMS website are pretty cheap. You might be able to get a link set for around $20

@NEO-RC
@NEO-RC 2 ай бұрын
Thanks you! The atlas is a good looking truck but it’s more of a trail truck than crawler and it’s good for those just getting into the hobby but I honestly wouldn’t recommend it for a long term use. I’ve had some issues with pins falling out of the axles. For the price it’s definitely not bad. I’ve ran it a lot and keep it greased but seems to be wearing out in less than a year. Just my experience with it. Thank you so much for watching!!

@@MrBowser2012 yes, the RedCat ascent fusion. I have the regular ascent and put a fusion SE 1800kv brushless motor in it and now they offer the ascent with that fusion motor already in it and it’s a fantastic machine at a great price. Really hard to beat. They are easy to work on and I’ve ran the crap out of mine and it’s doing great. The other is the element Ecto. The Ecto is my favorite but needs a little work to get it where it needs to be where the ascent fusion is upgraded from the factory and ready to rock.

@@MrBowser2012 thanks so much! The Ecto is awesome. I put a fusion pro motor in it, upgraded the steering servo, high clearance links, wheels and tires and added brass hubs on the front axle and brass differential covers on the front and rear. It’s hands down my favorite with the ascent a close second. I kinda had to build a course because there’s no where very close to me to go crawling and having it in my backyard is super convenient. Does take some work but I’m glad I made it. Let me know how you do with your course. Love seeing others creativity with obstacles and such.
