First trip out with the STAR Sails Supernova kayak sail on my 2015 Hobie Adventure. Launched from White Point Recreation Area in Niceville, FL and sailed across Choctawhatchee Bay and back. Winds were around 5-8mph.

This sail is designed to spill.

I have not had an issue with the stress from the Supernova sail causing any issues on my Adventure and now Revo 16. If you saw my other video I did experience the mast becoming dislodged inside the kayak, but eventually figured out the mast receiver tube was cut a bit short on that particular kayak. After swapping to another mast receiver tube that was just slightly longer that hasn't been an issue again. The STAR sails do flex more and spill over in higher winds which I think probably helps with regards to stresses. I've also been realizing that when it's windy enough for the sail to start flexing over so much, I can reef or partially furl the sail and get about the same speed while making the sail a bit easier to manage.

i got one now lol and I just did..dunno if the puny amas will put up with more wind forces. Already made a daggerboard. Tryna get bigger Amas/outriggers...but the last good one where they build them was Finn Kayaks from Australia :(

Hey, just saw your comment. Don't think I had the Supernova yet while I owned my Oasis, but am sure it would work fine on it. Main thing I've noticed with the STAR sails is that you might need to adjust the little stopper or disc on the mast that helps keep the furling line from dropping off the furler, as each model Hobie had little differences in deck height and clearances around the mast base. If you're sailing an Oasis you should post up photos or a video showing the setup if you're so inclined. As for using a jib I'm not that advanced. Plus I like keeping my kayaking somewhat on the simpler side. I agree though that the Hobie Sidekick AMAs are a little limited as to the forces they'll handle. I was seriously considering Spring Creek Kayak Stabilizers as that looked like it would be a little heavier duty than the Hobie kit, without adding too much more complexity or cost.

With this sail can you go against the way?

Yes, the Hobie Adventure and Revolution 16, has a slot to allow use of the Hobie daggerboard which helps with sailing into the wind. Either the Hobie sail or STAR sail will work. On a typical outing I will end up sailing a few miles upwind, but it does take significantly longer to make headway upwind. While I usually try to avoid it, I will sometimes start peeling while sailing upwind to give a better angle into the wind and help get back to the takeout quicker.
