Something to note, the Hobo Railroad has since been renamed to the Granite State Scenic Railway and now operated under the reporting mark PLLX.

I know this comment isn’t going to get to the right people because the people watching this are mostly rail fans, but seriously trains are no joke. It doesn’t matter how slow you *think* a train is moving, you should never put your life in danger to get someplace a few minutes faster.
@KatTheFoxtaur
@KatTheFoxtaur 5 ай бұрын
And not even "a few" minutes faster, that Jeep that finally stopped for the tracks, probably didn't even have a green light yet by the time the train cleared! I can't say I've seen THAT many people for THAT long, crossing after the flashing lights have started... Having said that, I absolutely love this capture!! Gorgeous whistle on that train. :)

I guess if it's a gateless level crossing that you're used to traversing every day, yeah, sure, whatever. Best judgement. I grew up around a lot of rail and you've just gotta navigate around the train traffic sometimes. But damn I was wincing at every car continuing to push it when the train is CLEARLY in sight and damn near already in the road. If you misjudge and that stoplight is backed up you'd better be really quick about dropping into reverse and hope to hell if there's anyone behind you they can read the situation and be just as quick, and the same for whoever is behind them... It's not worth the extra few car lengths of pavement you might manage to get. Also it's good to see another Colton!

I live in a small town in Tasmania Australia. We have 6 rail crossings with lights and bells only. About 6 freight trains a day. Some people do jump the lights occasionally but regret this. When the bells start so does the camera. It's a very costly lesson for many stupid impatient drivers.

I truly think this crossing needs some new signal upgrades I think the reason there are drivers speeding this crossing is because it’s a unsafe blind spot this crossing spans a very wide road on a curve and there’s not enough lights and no bells for drivers to know when a train is coming
@jovetj
@jovetj 5 ай бұрын
The video was filmed at approximately 44.03743077192121, -71.67636716374606 According to what I see on Google Street View, there are extra signal lights so they are visible from all approaches to the crossing. Without doing a full engineering study to compare against the requirements laid out in the MUTCD it is hard to say for _certain,_ but I'm betting things are fine. Drivers just choose to ignore the signal lights because "nothing bad will happen to me, it always happens to someone else."

1. Thank you. I’m glad people appreciate my videos. 2. There were two railroad crossings at that intersection due to it being a weird shape and the bell for the first crossing isn’t audible because of where it is. 3. They wouldn't have done that if there was a crossing gate, and not just the crossing sign. And what was the idea of the warning bells starting to ring about a minute AFTER the red lights started flashing? That's not how most railroad crossings operate, and I should know because I've seen plenty of them. Usually, the lights start flashing and the bells start ringing AT THE SAME TIME! After all, not every motorist notices the lights flashing, but they're all bound to hear the bells ringing, not to mention the train horns or whistles blowing. Unfortunately, some of the motorists in this video ignored the lights, the bells, AND the horn! What idiots we have today! It's like nobody, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY, has even a bit of common sense in their heads!

The drivers are required to stop when the lights are flashing. This is always the case. The bell doesn't matter, as crossing bells are really only there for pedestrians. Some areas allow cars to proceed after stopping if it's obvious there is no train coming and the way is safe. I don't know whether Lincoln, New Hampshire allows this. It is ALWAYS illegal to drive around or under a lowered or lowering (or raising!) crossing gate arm. The only rare exception to this is if directed to do so by law enforcement or a railroad employee.
