New mom Hoda Kotb told Ellen the heartwarming story of the very minute she found out she was officially going to adopt her daughter Haley. She also discussed her new job at the "Today" show and whether she had any idea she would be named co-anchor.

YES! and...a year+ ANOTHER baby girl! Although I am a big believer in ...we the public, dont KNOW these "famous" people. Who they really are...I truly believe Hoda IS how she puts herself out there on our screens. A beautiful, happy, caring soul who deserves all the joy she has finally received. I have adopted 7. I ended up pregnant after my first 2 after 8 years of infertility. That's my bonus kid. But went on to adopt 5 more. My last 2 I was 40. They are 5 months apart and it's the youngests birthday today! She is 6 now. The last 5 were as a single mom. Here at 46, I'm just thinking of starting the journey again. You can be a mom. It's been the best experience and some of the birth parents are my closest friends. You inherit extra family too. 😀

My brother and I were both adopted from Russia when we were young. He's 20, and I'm 23 now, and he's my best friend. Our parents are the best!! Thanks for sharing Hoda's story.

As an adoptee I feel really sad for you that your parents didn't take you back to visit China at least once. My adoptive mom thinks all adoptive parent should have to learn the language and culture of their adopted child's background. They should have taken you to visit China now and then. It is your roots. I hope you take some Chinese language classes, cook Chinese food. I mean you're as American as anyone else, but you also are Chinese and that bilingual and bicultural should be explored and celebrated. I really hope you can go sometime. :) I also hope the Chinese government and Chinese society starts treating 2nd and 3rd born babies and girls better so that we end the extreme sexism and so that all children in China get their huzou.

Megan, unfortunately, it's WAY too expensive to go. They were busy working so I could go to college. But, I grew up learning about Chinese culture and learning Chinese words. I have not lost my connection to China.

Oh good! They sound like really nice parents. :) Actually, a funny story for you. My neighbor half way down the street his wife his Chinese and his son is half Chinese half White. She is so nice. The parents from Beijing live with them. Really, really kind elderly people. The grandma knows a few words in English. Next door my neighbour's son married a woman from China and they adopted a girl from China. Anyway, I'm happy you know your cultures. I think us adoptees deserve something like the Jewish youth have Hillel to go back to Israel, international adoptees deserve something where they get a free 2 week trip to their country of origin. Anyway, I am totally slacking and have a lot of work to do. Totally totally slacking.

Hoda makes me cry everyday!! It's clear how much she loves her daughter. It's good to remember that not all adoptees experience this. I don't want to be as harsh as I am on the topic of adoptees as I normally am. I think people should remember it's not always so rosey and loving.

Then you should have it done it 10 plus years ago. You're too old at 50. Absolutely selfish to decide you "need" a child like they're a handbag. You're 50 and going to retire in 15 years and any child you adopt will be off to college when you're about 70. It's disgusting to think about having a child at your age.

Vi W that’s a disgusting comment. Age has absolutely no effect on one’s ability to be a mother. Full stop. Even if you’re ridiculous and insensitive argument about being 70 when the child goes off to college held any weight at one point, it surely doesn’t now. People are living well into their eighties and nineties and they maintain the capacity to love and empathize like all parents until they die. This person’s desire to have a child should be respected as it’s obviously something they want very much. My mum was incredibly young when she started having children and was thirty when she had me, her fifth child, and by your logic, she should have been a great mother. Wrong. Age has nothing to do with one’s ability to be a mother, in fact, I would argue that my mother’s lack of patience from her youth is what made her such a difficult woman to be raised by. I think you owe this person an apology.

I'm glad to hear that a child has a chance in life. Individual circumstances are different and we shouldn't be so quick to judge. I notice some folks were wondering why the bio family didn't step in. The fact is maybe no one knew. I can speak on this because it happen to me. I was born and then given to the system right after birth and after 50 some yrs she still didn't want to connect with me, she knew where I was etc. I had to track her down and the rest was history. Please don't judge folks and all adoptions aren't bad. Now if we're talking about the foster care system that is totally different. Once again I'm glad I had a chance at life, but I also had issues growing up knowing I didn't know my blood line. I use all those negative thoughts and wrote a book. My ONE wish is that more people would ADOPT--thank you Hoda. In 1989 my son came home from So. Korea. One year later our Adoption Agency called to inform up that the same parents--just had a baby girl and wondered if we would consider adopting her. I didn't even have to "think about it"---HECK YEAH!! She arrived home 3 months later--and their bond was "LOCKED ON" the minute we brought her in the door. The Universe aligned to bring my family together. Please consider adopting a little one who needs love. Blessings, Chelsea

I remember when she did real news in New Orleans. Because New Orlean has a large Creole Black community I always thought she was Creole but she’s actually Egyptian. This is what a real Egyptian looks like. Her hair has come a long way because it’s on point.

Oh I thought she was gonna do the 10:00 part of the Today Show out there in California cause during her and Kathie Lee’s show on Halloween they were showing some footage of them at “The Voice” studio.
