Hello Hodgie! Ertl is made about 60 miles away from me here in Iowa. I was remembering back to some of quotes from the movie, somebody asked Jamie Farr "what do you have in that thing"? He replies "stock". Yeah boy, good old days.

ERTL cars were just made to play with - they were tougher than a lot of other brands. For some reason, here in the UK, they were very expensive, and, as you say, they were not often the correct vehicles. I wasn't buying cars in the early 1980's; I was in my very late teens, but my kid brother was - he's always been a bit OCD with accuracy, and, although he loved 'The Cannonball Run' and 'Smokey And The Bandit' (still does, me too - they're classics), he wouldn't buy the ERTL models, as they were the wrong cars. I never knew ERTL made action figures, though. That Burt Reynolds figure looks very nice indeed. Interesting video. Thank you!

ERTL thought EVERYONE were dumb. Up 'till AMT was bought by Round2, their General Lee model kit had the body of a '69 Charger 500! Sometimes for some reasons they lost the casting for some parts of their model kits and they "fixed" the model kit by replacing the parts with what they thought was similar. If I remember correctly, their '67 GTO was unbuildable 'cuz it had the undercarriage of a '71 GTO Judge (or the opposite). If ERTL could make quick bucks, by being cheap, well, you can be sure they'd do it.
