In the time since his last album, the original founding member of #OddFuture has focused on his personal life including going to recovery for addiction, focusing on his mental health, and moving from Los Angeles to Toronto. As Hodgy - born Gerard Long - describes it, the new project has an almost bipolar feel to it, like he’s two different artists - one the rapper and one the singer. June 7, 2020 is the day he found his sobriety and the new era of Gerard Long / Hodgy began. In this candid conversation we chat about the contrast between being raised in Los Angeles and life now in Toronto; plus his new music.

hodgy and domo were always the ones in OF that always resonated most with me growing up listening to the crew ; potheads, always joking, sports interests, one seen as an energizer bunny when he feels like being one (hodgy) and the other being the one who 9/10 gone sit back and play blunt passer and jokester during the function (domo). they were really my generations wu tang as far as sub groups within the group and different chemistries that added to the cores aura. @@KingLulzington yeah man I owe a lot to the early incarnations of those two and the rest of odd future. I’m glad Tyler and Earl made it and changed their sound to fit their growth. Still nothing will ever compare to this era nothing…

Just seems that they all wanted to hangout, make awesome music, have fun, live their young life to the fullest, and make some good ass memories. After that they all wanted to live quietly and that was it. It's like what they basically did was, ".....................HEY I'M HERE!!!!!.......................ok bye..". I'm glad that he's doing good and happy or maybe happier, still sad that they all split up but honestly as a human being I would rather have them be happy to themselves and live their lives in peace than to be making music, famous, rich, and suicidal/depressed. Thanks for the memories and the good music.

Listening to Hodgy talk about his early adult years is insane, idk I was young when I heard the OF boys doing their thing. Always interesting opening up a core memory from then and processing the now with the help of someone or something you were heavily invested in

I loved all the projects Hodgy did, from The Dena Tape all the way to Untitled EP 2. His tone and and rhyme schemes were some of the best in OF. I truly thought he’d be one of the best rappers out of the group but it seemed like at the time he stopped really caring about the quality of music he was putting out especially after the group split. Even some of the songs he’s put out recently didn’t move me like what some of his previous works did. This interview definitely gave me a new perspective, and it’s great to hear he’s been sober for a while now. I’ll always support his work and give it a listen. He’ll always been one of the best rappers from 2010-2014 to me

I completely understand now. I will never 100% get it but I do got that 99%. Growing up lost not really pursuing anything you are looking for something but cling onto was is closes to comfort. Maybe friends, but one day it’s just going to be you and you’ll need to be able to find peace within yourself and make peace with everyone else. Before you even get that point you will need to be working hard at something such as music, speech , sales, art and you will need to struggle. Will doing so if you really want to you will find self enlightenment. Only then your second life starts. Goodluck once you see the way broadly you see it in all things.

Glad to hear he's getting better. I had a heavy drug and alcohol addiction during the whole odd future thing and even saw a concert in portland, or which was sadly low energy, but understandable because I recognized their high enegy image beguining to wear on them. As was mine. i was using so many different drugs at the time and overdosed serveral times. I slept in parks and once woke up on a strangers front poarch. I destroyed relationships and the reprecussions of the odd future era for me was very impactful. Wish him the best and hope he can bridge that gap between his children and himself and it seems like hes working on it. Hope he keeps it up and finds his sound again, the one were hes the inventive dude he was but without drugs must be hard. Its hard for a 30 year old drop out custodian it must be hell for a celebrity, with all that social pressure and having people invade his right to live life like every human being on the planet and walk around not being constantly approached with that strong negative energy that was his public image reflected back on him constantly by fans. Hope he recovers well and Im glad he seems to have a good support sysytem

Thank you for this. Glad to hear Hodgy is doing well. Wasn't a fan of the MellowHype stuff, but he always had glimpses of this introspection in his music which I liked. It's sobering to see how life plays out sometimes (compared to his peers), and it seems like he's done a lot of reflecting for the better.

Interviewer did not understand the assignment. You will only hear between the lines the light you will need to find. The amount of Information you will need to endure puts you into a stale mate so don’t get trapped in any games. The Roman circus for first.
