Hi Otto, I always try and hold out on new purchases until you have reviewed them as I trust your Review above all others.... time to purchase this little baby that I have had in my basket for about 3 wks will get the single one for now as still using iPhone 13 Pro and iPad 2019 until next March when the contract is up on them..... 👍🏻👍🏻

thanks Mark. Do bear in mind that new iPhones will no longer have the connector that you iPhone 13 has. If you are not planning to change the microphone I think something that has more compatible should be acquired. The DJI Mic 2 could be a good option in my opinion, and they are selling the single transmitter that can be connected via bluetooth, or if you buy the set that comes with the receiver, it comes with 2 plugs, one for your iPhone 13 and one for USB-C for iPhone 15 and above.

Lol - Last night I ordered the DJI Mic. 2 set as well - 1RX & 1TX the black version this is so I can get the single WHITE TX in a month or two and then pair it to the Black RX and have a set for future proof and to use for Weddings etc with my Canon V10 and EOS cameras also my Panasonic HC-VX870 4K Camcorder.... expensive way to do it I know but the hohem mic will go with the iPad 2019 so will not lose its usefulness , Cheers Otto@@OttoJulian_

With noise cancellation turned off, although it has slightly more background noise, the DJI Mic still sounded slightly better. However, with the noise cancellation turned to 'standard', the Hohem sounded just slightly better. Unfortunately, despite having a way better price, the big turn-off for me was that the Hohem has no internal battery, which completely eliminates any ability from using the receiver w/ both mics, without being plugged into something else. Between the two, I'll stick with my DJI.

My guess is that they did that (no internal battery in the receiver) to make it smaller? But yeah, it cuts down the options to use it compared to others like the DJI Mic

Bit new to this, in what scenario would you use a wireless mic without plugging it into something?

@@WeatherGuruOSRS I could give a few examples...but, let's say, I'm recording video using an Insta360 camera. As the Insta360 camera is receiving the audio signal via an audio cable (ie. not via USB), the camera doesn't supply power to the receiver.

@@WeatherGuruOSRS in this case the receiver needs to be powered by a device or directly through the usb-c port. For example a mirrorless camera will not provide power to it. On the other hand, a receiver with an internal battery will not need an external power supply. You still have to connect it to the camera but just for the audio. Hope this clears your question

Impressive features for the price. In your head-to-head comparison with the DJI Mic 2, I thought the DJI Mic had little better quality. It had a richer sound with a little better low-end frequency. I'm listening with headphones while watching on an iMac. I have the Pocket 3 but not the DJI Mic 2. Still waiting for the Mic 2 to become available separately. The Hohem looks good though. Kind of a hard decision now.

yeah I agree with your comments. Hard to know when DJI is planning to sell their microphone separately, and I get the feeling that it will have a retail price of at least $300.

always nice work. Yesterday I ordered to watch somebody review of 1TX + 1RX. I bought it because i can connect to the USBC port directly and can use the Hohem M6 gimbal.

Hi, im thinking about getting an external mic. I don't vlog or anything like that but like doing videos ie.town walk throughs, holiday vids and general filming. In your opinion is this mic worth having for what i do?

an external mic will be better to capture sound than the internal one. I'd get this or a similar one if you care about it, otherwise the internal mic should be ok for general purposes

Excellent and informative review. I was holding off purchasing because it wasn’t clear that I could connect it to a camera and you clearly answered my questions. I have a Ulanzi battery grip that would pair well with this setup. The compact size, so card recording make it work well for travel. Thanks again

Good morning Otto! Does it work with the Insta360 acr pro also? Because I have the pocket 3 AND the insta360 ace pro and want to use the same mic-system.

yes and no. You will need the Ace Pro mic adapter, and set it up like I did in the video for a regular camera (receiver needs to be powered using an external source) Other than that, it works perfectly.

If im not mistaken the dji can connect to your phone via bluetooth so you dont need the receiver but the Hohem you doesnt have bluetooth connectivity so you have to use the receiver correct?

Otto I have a problem doing some kind of movements with my Pocket 3. If I decide I want to video something on the ground ahead of me or a tall building for example, when I point the camera in that direction it wants to maintain the level shot, I have to keep titling it until it reaches it's limit and then it will show what I want. This is very annoying, is there something I can do to avoid this?

Hey Dean. I think you have the gimbal mode set to "tilt locked". Can you check that out? swipe down on the screen to access the main menu and look for the one that has the gimbal mode. For those kind of shots it should be set to "follow mode"

I have the Hohem MT2 Gimbal so it'd be no problem to power the receiver and use this with my Nikon Z cameras. My only concern would be the task of fumbling through all those recordings stored inside the TF card. Also no mention on whether the recordings are in WAV or MP3 format. I only know that it is 48Khz / 16-bit quality.

it's a WAV file, and yeah it gets annoying when you have an audio file with a few minutes with nothing on it. After I found out about this, I stopped using it since my recordings were not extra important to need a backup, otherwise there is no other choice

You can wire the receiver's headphone-out socket to the camera's mic-in socket. That is shown in Hohem's instructional video. Probably better sound: at 4:22 I can clearly hear hard-disk-writing noises, caused by the circuit that writes to the card putting noise on the power-line from the battery to the mic pre-amp! That is not uncommon with cheap mic-to-TF-card recording. Shame.

@@ericd7709 Thanks Eric. I did mention in the video that you can connect the receiver to the camera directly. However, at 4:22 I'm not using the audio that was recorded on the microSD card. In fact, there was no card inside when I did that specific test

Odd behavior, it recording everything like that. I guess normally, the mic(s) would be off if you’re not actively recording?

yeah but the receiver doesn't have an on/off switch and will stay on when powered on

@@OttoJulian_ Ah, got it. So if you leave the receiver plugged into your phone and don’t explicitly turn off the transmitters, then it’s going to just record everything going on continuously. That’s definitely a PITA then :-/ (I’m still buying a set, but good to know about this! Thanks for including mention of it!)

@@DaveEtchellsthat's right, it got me confused for a while because I could not find my recordings, until I came across some conversations that I had with people face to face, I realized that it had been recording the whole time. After that I did more testings and yeah, you have to either unplug the receiver OR turn off the transmitter (last option is to remove the microSD card as I did afterwards)
