What are the benefits of building more Infrastructure in Hearts of Iron 4? How much difference does it make?
Today we will cover the top 3 advantages, and measure the gains to be had, at every infrastructure level available in HOI4. We'll conduct the test with no other tech modifications to make it as fair as possible.
Roads Level 0/5 = 0% state infrastructure.
Roads Level 1/5 = 20% state infrastructure.
Roads Level 2/5 = 40% state infrastructure.
Roads Level 3/5 = 60% state infrastructure.
Roads Level 4/5 = 80% state infrastructure.
Roads Level 5/5 = 100% state infrastructure.
When a state reaches top level 5/5, it will turn blue.

4:25 There's a 4th advantage, useful for smaller countries. For any area upgraded to 5/5 Infra, you get to make a Decision that adds 1 Building Slot. Probably completely useless for Brasil, but very valuable for a small country such as Sweden.

@@gameswithbrains 100 I think. There's also a different Decision when you're at war. Maybe that one costs 50?

Still useful for even the largest countries. Can never have to many build slots or factories. Once I start to hit my building slot cap in all my states I start building infrastructure. If my civs aren't building something then it is going to waste unless I am trading for something.

One of the reasons I've been enjoying the Better Mechanics series of mods is that it adds passive infrastructure and civilian growth WHILE AT PEACE! Along with its war economy changes, it makes it much more viable to build a consumer economy and enter the war late.

As a HOI4 player of many years, I usually try to build up infrastructure just cause, but thank you for the explanation on why it IS actually important

Thanks for the quick explanation and showing the benefits in detail. I always just built up the roads on a tile where there is lots of space of factories without much thought. Is there a benefit on putting a rubber refinery on a state which has rubber as a ressource? Or are these two factors separate?

You figured it out right there - they are 2 separate things... States that have a lot of rubber by default, are generally found in tropical areas that grow the "rubber trees" - great example being Vietnam, and this is why Michelin, the French Tyre co. set up shop over there. When it comes to Synthetic Refineries, they somehow end up with rubber (or a rubber-like substance) during the processes involved in the synthetic Coal to Fuel action. There is nothing stopping us building synthetic refineries in addition to the default rubber tree plantations in a given state, but it comes with no additional bonuses (or penalties) that I'm aware of.

How like does it take to build infrastructure? Is each level faster than the previous level? At what point is it worth it to max out a state then build factories on it.
