couldn’t agree more about the original kaha being much more versatile as far as aesthetics go. just found a pair of the original kaha for about 140$. i got my first pair for about 220$ and i was able to do basically whatever i wanted to in those boots. so excited to get a brand new pair again.

That’s awesome! Good on ya - I’m prob going to be on the hunt for some Kaha 1’s soon too when my current ones expire. That’s a good deal too you for - I guess one of the cons is the original price, but happy to pay for such a great product - esp when you get a sale like you did. Have a good one.

People! Don’t pay ticket price! Wait for a special I got these for $250 Aussie dollar and they are unbelievable value for that price . As for the performance I wore these for a full calendar year cheffing and hiking and they’re the best. I love them much more than my Solomon quest 4

I've had 6 pairs of version 1. Without a doubt, the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The first pair, bought in 2021, lasted 1500 miles before the soles wore out. HOWEVER, the following 2 pairs were returned, due to the Vibram sole becoming detached in several places after only 40 miles of walking. The next 2 pairs suffered the same problem, but I stuck with them and simply super-glued the areas that were affected. Both these pairs also suffered so much wear on the leather upper, due to the toe-guard rubbing against it, that the waterproofing was compromised. I still have another pair, unworn, in reserve. I've got 2 pairs of the 2nd version. Not as comfortable for my wide feet, but they've lasted much longer than the earlier version without any issues.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah I have been rebuying and now accepted my fate with the Kaha 2. I kinda like them once I got more use to then. Still the best / the Kaha 1 tho yes best of all time haha. Sucks about the bad durability etc/ I’ve had good luck with mine. But I go through them fast.

It's hard for me to shop for Hoka shoes because I have wide feet. But I tried on the kaha 2s in the REI store and it fit perfectly. So I do think they run a little wide.
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree. And also they just made some new colors (on hoka site) and I got a pair (Kaha 2). You really have to accept the fact the older model is gone forever haha. And either abandon the shoe or try to adapt to the new version. They seemed to have updated how they Kaha 2 fits a bit - and now they fit a lot better actually haha. More room in the toe box (length wise) and the boot is just longer. The first run of kaha 2's, my toes are/were more cramped than my kaha 1s. But they kinda fit a bit better but I still dont like the hubbel swallow heel altho it can feel good as a heel stomper. So I think a hot tip is they slightly changed the boot for updated colors - speculation but I'm stoked and we can maintain hope. I have wider feet too and regular Hokas actually don't fit my feet the greatest without getting wide. And sticking in these Road Runner orthopedic hard insoles that keep the show open evevn more. In the end though as the novel continues, I'm more addicted to their Ora Recovery flip, like in a literal way - I can't walk barefoot have to wear them. Hoka has me in their web badly

Hey thanks for putting the review out there I enjoyed it. I know they are made for hiking but would you say these or any Hoka waterproof shoe could be able to stand up to working in a wet environment like detailing everyday?
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 4 ай бұрын
No worries thanks for stopping by. Yes for sure, the extra grip on the bottom helps too. I’ve walked through big puddles and they do a good job of keeping dry. You do have to be aware though if you have shorts on the opening where your foot goes in is kinda big - but composed to any other Merrel or similar waterproof boot I still think these are the best. Could be perfect for that use case your describing. They have a good return policy if you at least want to check them out.

So the Hoka is made mainly for folks who have had foot issues. I can't see it for someone who just hikes for fun. I mean the cost of these boots is kind of out there. I see them as some sort of medical shoe. I'm sure folks that don't have foot problems buy them as well. Good review
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, appreciate the comment. I’d agree on the ‘having foot problems shoe.’ They are also starting to become pretty fashionable as I see tons of younger people in California wearing them. Kinda starting to turn into the iPhone of shoes. I’d say give them a shot if you do need more support, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. If your current shoe gear is working - stick with it. HOKA has so much eva foam they don’t last as long as other shoes too. But when I try other shoes now, I keep coming back to HOKA - albeit their firmer options and I use a custom orthotic insole. Have a good one and let me know if you try them out.

I've had 2 pairs of Hoka's. Both were comfortable for almost a year. For the big time $they want$ only lasting a year. I told myself I'd probably never buy another pair. Welp, i just bought these. I've returned one 2 many pairs of shoes. In the store, I've liked many. Get them to work and it's a big NOPE. I don't even know what it's called that i have wrong with my feet. It's actually my heels. They HURT in the morning. So, im giving these a try. I work at a car wash. I'm walking around and standing a lot. If I'm in hand dry. I'm standing / walking around on wet concrete. So besides comfortable i also need good traction. Hopefully these do the job!
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 11 ай бұрын
Haha I’m right there with you, buying shoes is a nightmare. I think a year isn’t a bad length of time though - I wear my shoes into the ground too. Yeah these are a solid option and I’d say good move for you. What you may be experiencing is ‘plantar fasciitis’ per your heel pain in the morning. Look into good insoles that are made for your foot, or store brand ones that have firmer support.

Thanks for stopping by. I’d have a look at the Kaha 2. Go true to size or a half size up. I can wear either of these all day and they are the best shoes I’ve found for wearing long periods and being pain free. If you wanna go the shoe route, and want a softer shoe, check out the Bondi. But I’d go wide if you have a normal or wider foot. Let me know how it goes.

would you say these offer good heel support? I'm looking for new boots and always unsure with running companies making walking boots such as Ino-v8.. I liked the idea but the Rocklites just didn't cut it.
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 4 ай бұрын
Yea there’s actually a ton of heel support with the Kaha 2’s cause they extend kinda back. They do sit a bit lower on your achilis tendon though. But if boot is tight it does good job when you plan you heel down having a lot of surface area for it. Hope it helps - they are def worth checking out.

Thanks for the review! How do these compare with the Anacapa boot?
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga Жыл бұрын
The Kaha have a slightly different heel drop and are more ‘plush’ than Anacapa. The Kaha 2 is more similar to the Anacapa than the Kaha 1. If you want more ‘ground feel’ go Anacapa, if you want more of a Bondi type max cushion shoe in a boot, go Kaha. I prefer the Kaha to Anacapa all day.

Bro, im contemplating to buy them because of your amazing review. Im a big fan of steel toe caps. Should I go for these for a change?? Im hardcore salomon user. Since hoka are softer, and maybe not as much as a toe protection as Salomons here, would these work for high altitude backpacking for like 10 days?
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 10 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the feedback and stopping by. I still stand by my opinion these Kaha’s are the best boots ever if you don’t need an actual steel toe. The toe and heel outer material is still decently tough (you can tramp over rocks and kick boulders etc and not feel the impact too bad). Since they have the Vibram bottom grip, it makes the boots a lot stiffer and ‘harder’ then general HOKA shoes. Their shoes overall are actually a bit too soft for me, so their options with Vibram soles (like these) I prefer. It’s been a while since I’ve hiked in some Salomon’s, so I can’t make a direct comparison, but I think these would preform great in some high altitude backpacking - the extra support and cushion can help you keep going with less foot fatigue. Every after a decent amount of hours wearing these, my feet still feel good. I would avoid the ‘low-top’ version and go with the ‘regular high-top’ like in this video. I still like the Kaha 1 more than the new Kaha 2, so if you can find the Kaha 1 somewhere get it. If not, the Kaha 2 is still great - just the ‘swallow tail’ heel can take a little bit to get used to. And if your traversing down a mountain a lot, it can get in the way a little. Other options from HOKA that they updated without the swallow heel (if it’s a turn off) are the TOR ULTRA HIGHs. They have less heel drop and slightly different fit (also ‘moderate’ over ‘neutral’ stability) so unsure if they are different enough to not be like the Kaha, but that’s another option. One other option is the Speedgoat 5 Mid GTX - it’s less cushion and has same heel drop as the Tor model. No swallow tail on the heel, but does seem to be semi-large in the area. Good luck and let me know what you end up with.

Great Video. How wide is the toe box?
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 9 ай бұрын
Appreciate it. In terms of the toe box, the Kaha 1 is slightly roomier than the Kaha 2. Both I would say are a bit wider in the toe area than normal Hoka shoes. It would be nice if there were a legit ‘wide’ version in these, but there isn’t. For all other Hoka models I do wear wide, but for these, they are ok for me. I’d say give them a go in your normal size, or size up a half size for a little more room. Hope that helps - thanks for stopping by.

@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and positive comments. Appreciate it. I have not tried the Solomon boots - I do hear they run a little narrow. Vibram soles are nice - but don’t think a deal breaker if the boot otherwise fits you good. Kaha are unique and overall the bottom platform type sole is closer to a running shoe than a proper boot. Sorry I can’t help more - if you convince Solomon to send me a lot I’ll review them haha. I’d suggest jsut ordering both from a place you can return. Good luck.

Why not wear orthotics for your foot pain? Do they have enough of a rocker sole for forefoot issues?
@TravisVarga
@TravisVarga 11 ай бұрын
I do wear Road Runner insoles in them and all my other HOKAs now (the memory foam, cushioned versions that are black). And yes the combo of custom inserts and these shoes are chef’s kiss and at a good point now with least foot pain I’ve had in a while after this combination and the HOKA Ora Flip Flops. I think they do have enough rocker in front and underneath toes - esp compared to other similar boots. The amount of cushion and stack under your forefoot is one thing really I really like them. Maybe size up half a size if you want a little more toe room- ideally try one two different sizes with your orthotics and socks you’d use for best idea on how they will fit.

The Kaha 2’s are closer to the Anacapa than the Kaha 1. The Kaha 2 have more heel drop than Anacapa and have more cushion in the sole. Anacapa you’re a bit closer to the ground and bit more responsive. My two cents - Kaha’s all day. Either the 1 or 2. I like all the ‘plush’ models of HOKA’s - if you want more responsiveness and ground feel, go Anacapa.

Agreed. Both the Kaha 1 and Kaha 2 have shorter tongues, although the Kaha 1 doesn't get 'shoved down' as much. I've found a way to tie them (just go over both tabs with one loop) and the tongue's stay up.
