I mean, those are canon-ages, but in the LA, we can infer that the characters can be a little bit older since they never state any ages outright, and the actors playing them are older. They can have a year or two of leeway, at least, since the ages aren't a huge plotpoint in the story.

@@rockCity777based on the times we’re given for flashbacks, I think we’re meant to infer Luffy is 17-18, Nami and Usopp is 18-19, and Zoro is the oldest at somewhere in his early 20’s. I forget when exactly Sanji’s flashback takes place but he’s giving early 20’s too in presentation.

Basically the sea saps all your energy nothing more. You could still technically use your fruit underwater but it drains your energy to a point where you basically pass out.

Honestly let me help you because this is something the live action did poorly. Being splashed by seawater is not a problem but they made it seem that way. In truth, Devil fruit users have to be submerged to above their waist to be sufficiently incapacitated by seawater. Being splashed is not an issue but several times this season they made it seem like Luffy couldn't even touch seawater which is a really bad precedent to set for a new viewers. Having Luffy blasted by seawater the first time he fought Arlong and not fight back, having Zoro save him from that one fishman that jumped out of the water instead of letting Luffy handle it himself. Very poor representation of the actual interaction.

@@omarholder9036 Worth mentioning that this is an adaptation, and as an adaptation the rules may be altered from the source material. It seems like a very conscious decision of the writers to have specified "sea water" and "a few splashes" as opposed to any standing water and submersion, respectively. Remember, Oda signed off on these scripts, to the point that he reportedly vetoed several of them before production began. It's fine to provide context from the manga and anime, but it's best not to make assumptions of this show based on them.

Koby and Luffy were for sure more than one single day together even if not much more, but it is about the things they lived together then. Koby was a prisioner, living in fear and having to clean the blood of other victims of his captor, Luffy saved him, he later saved his life more literally when Alvida directly tried to kill him, he offered with a smile to go away together, they traveled, Luffy gave him the security to never think he was better as a prisioner, he gave him the strenght to go follow his dream of being a marine, he taught him there's good and bad pirates just as good and bad marines, he even told him basically his backstory; it's kinda of a lot, they have a strong bond.

2:41 About the water and devil fruit relation... independent of whatever fruit you eat you automatically lose the ability to swim and you lose strength like what happened with Luffy later in the episode that's why he didn't break the glass by himself. This applies to anyone who ate a devil fruit. Though surprisingly you still have the powers, for example Luffy under water is still made of rubber but he cant stretch as easily as he would outside of water. And not giving any spoilers but Shanks didn't eat a devil fruit otherwise he wouldn't be able to pull Luffy out of the water, I won't explain what he did for that you have to watch the anime😉. But I'm so glad you're reacting to this. Sending good vibes from Portugal 🇵🇹

@@Kai_ay_ay it's a title given to influential pirates, they must have a powerful crew, a high bounty and big territories under their name (like Arlong had Coco village and most of the surrounding islands under his name). They must also pose a threat to the World Government, in fact it is the World Government that decides who gets called a Yonko (translated to "4 emperors of the sea").

7:20 So this show made me wanna watch the anime. Im currently at episode 31. So from what i understand so far (because i am a newbie to the anime), instead of seasons, One Piece has story arcs. So for example, the One piece live action season 1 covers like first 4 or 5 arcs of the anime. These arcs range from up to hundreds of eps. So just a lil nugget and thats what i perceive its like, anime fans kindly correct me if im wrong.

One piece isn't divided by seasons, actually, it's divided by Sagas, each Saga composed of some arcs. This first season of the live action, for example, is all based on the first saga of the manga, the East Blue Saga. There's no limit to how long each arc (and therefore each saga) can be.

"Just what is your history!?" Oh, you'll find out, Monica. And then you'll understand a lot more about Nami, including why she stopped running when she saw the destruction of Orange Town. And that huge sea monster took Shanks' arm with its first chomp. The moment you saw it severed is the exact same moment they showed it, so you didn't miss anything. The "One Piece" anime has been showing on Japanese TV practically non-stop since 1998. The long-running, really popular cartoon series have tended to follow that pattern, running an episode each week with almost no breaks at all, rather than going by 'seasons'. That's in contrast to the more recent 'cours' schedule, in which a series will show 12-13 weekly episodes over 3 calendar months, followed by a hiatus of several months.

In this season Luffy is 17 years old, just as at the start of the anime (Nami is 18 and Zoro is 19). If you want to know for real how much time has passed in the anime by now (not sure if you asked it rhetorically) then keep reading... He's 19 now.

This is a super minor trivia note that is never relevant, but the Grand Line isn't around the equator, despite what most maps in the world seem to show it as. It and the Red Line are actually diagonal across the world, neither cross either of the Poles. Neat!

To answer your question: One Piece spans an in-universe timespan of 3 Years (so far). Luffy is 17, and Zoro and Nami are in their early 20s!

Reason why there is so many episodes is that Japan insists on shows like One Piece being weekly. This means that there is a new episode every week, and the show suffers from it in terms of pacing and runtime. If you ever want to watch the anime, watch One Pace instead, it basically cuts the fat down to bearable lengths and basically cuts nothing important or "unique". A negative aspects of the weekly release is that a lot of scenes are reused

The One Piece Manga (the source material) has been a weekly installment in the Shonen Jump comic book/compilation, the same place Naruto and Bleach etc. came from. It's been going for more than 20 years, so 20x52 weeks give us 1000+ episodes!

You can’t just sail to the equator to reach the grand line. You can’t enter it because of reasons so you have to go to the entrance first. Sailing to different seas is extremely difficult.

you definitely didn't miss any shots re: Shanks losing his arm. They deliberately don't show that his arm got eaten by the monster. My GUESS is that the staredown afterwards is the monster decided it was satisfied with eating just Shanks' arm?

So happy you are liking the series! I recently caught up with the anime, and it's so worth it. I know the idea of 1000 episodes sounds daunting, but it really did go by super fast! I will say though, if you do ever start the anime journey, invest in a LOT of tissue boxes. There were definitely times I had to pause an episode to just cry my eyes out. The story telling, the characters, and the world building are all fantastic!

Surprising only a couple of years have passed in over two decades. Days or weeks of unseen sailing followed by an adventure on wacky islands means time doesn’t go quick for the crew. But yeah unlike most shows One Piece doesn’t really have a off season and they pretty much release one a week which is insane. Its huge in Japan so I assume they have enough people to make it work. Downside is they have to add filler or draw out episodes quite a bit.

This has hands down been one of my favorite reactions to watch for OPLA. I really hope you do more. There are some really helpful guides around that help with watching the anime, if you want to skip filler and all, so you don't have to stress as much over how many episodes there are. It's still a lot, but you don't have to watch 100% of them. They are also very bite-sized 20min ep usually, so they go by quick! As for how much time passes in the anime, I am not fully sure what the over all total is, but years do pass (there is a 3 year time skip at one point as well). It's a very fun, wild ride.

I did my research and the first season of the live version (8 episodes total) covers up to episode 45 in the anime. although there are a lot of stuff in the anime that they didn't cover in the live version.
